stayed here from Nov 26 - Dec 3
Transfer to hotel was excellent. About 1 hour with a stop half way for a beer and washroom break. Bus driver John was the best driver we have ever had. He gave us the run down and lots of info on Jamaica over the PA for the entire trip;
Large, very clean all junior suites. We had a wonderful ocean front view on the 5th floor. 21000 block (right next to the construction that didn't bother us a bit). King bed, seperate shower and whirlpool tub. Had the Golden Club option which was well worth it just for the great location, 4 pre-booked a la cartes, free safe, free internet, beach bags and bottle of rum. It was our 25th anniversary so the hotel staff brought us free t-shirts to our room.
Buffet was good. A bit repeatitive but that was ok since we only ate there 3 out of 7 nights since we had 4 a cartes for the rest of the nights. I missed the Italian which my hubby said wasn't the best however the rest were excellent, especially the Japanese. Jerk chicken for lunch at the beach was awesome.
Snorkeling beach out front was great for snorkelling. Lots of fish (and different fish that we haven't seen other places) Swimming beach to the west was nice and sandy, water nice and clear, one day some waves which were fun but calm for the most part. Very few weeds and no rocks or coral. Not sure what people are complaining about when saying there is a long walk to the beach. Have been to many resorts that are very spread out and this one is very compact considering the large amount of rooms. We were located on the far side of the resort (as far as you could get from the swimming beach and it was less than a 10 min walk - honestly if thats too far for you to walk you need to pick a 200 room resort where everything is right there).
Nice pools. Very clean. A little noisy for us near the swim up pool. We spent most of our time near the construction end.
Did Dunns River, tubing down the rapids and toured Ochos Rios and the surrounding area - a private tour with Peat Taylor Tours very good. Did this on the Sunday so nice an quiet since the cruise ships don't visit that day.
Only went to one show but it was a nice set up but seem to be the typical shows like they have at any other resor.
No very noticable. New section almost done which will be really nice once open They say another 1000 rooms however counting the windows doesn't add up to that for me. I personally think once all the additions they have planned are done this resort will be too big (will be the biggest resort on the island)
I got the flu about half way through the trip (which I am pretty sure I caught before leaving home ). It put a damper on my trip and I was really ill for a several days. Staff was really nice and brough room service for breakfast for when I didn't feel well. Saw the nurse who was really nice and supplied me with some over the counter drugs to help. Even though I didn't feel well for part of the trip I would love to go back to this hotel again. It was a really good value for the price we paid.
