“Amazing trip Best Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2010

If I travel somewhere and there is a Bahia Principe resort in that location, I will stay there everytime.. this chain of hotels is beyond 5 star.. always clean, always huge and spread out.. I can't say enough good things about this place. The beach was huge and the pool was huge, you are never on top of people at these resorts.. its a good location for excursions, the drive is not far to most locations, there is golf close by, but its pretty friggen hot to play golf. The rooms are spectacular, especially if you can get a view from the 5th floor. there are shops and the entertainmet is fantastic.. seriously you can't ask for a better relaxing fun trip then any bahia principe resort.. Dunns river falls is not the greatest excursion like everyone says in my opinion the shopping & tubing down the river excursion was the best

We travelled to the Gran Bahia as a group of 26 for our wedding last month (July 2010) The resort is amazing and our wedding was perfect. If you are getting married be assured that the wedding co-ordinator Beverly is fabulous and very good at her job. We and our guests all thoroughly enjoyed not only the wedding but our stay in general. The hotel has great facilities and is very clean and tidy. They are building a new wing as you may have read in previous reviews but as the hotel is huge you would hardly notice it is not at all noisy. The reception staff cannot do enough for you and everyone is very helpful. My husband and I also had some spa treatments before and after the wedding and I would highly recomend it, the surroundings are beautiful. The beaches are clean and tidy and our family and friends really enjoyed lunch each day at the Pisces Restaurant which serves jerk chicken and pork daily by the beach. We ventured out of the hotel and there is a bus twice daily to Ocho Rios if you fancy a spot of shopping. Also note that aside from the wedding meal it is difficult to eat in the a la carte restaurants in larger groups they only seat tables of eight so if you are travelling in a large group sometimes sitting together can be awkward, it was my husbands birthday after the wedding and they would not seat us all together in the Grille Restaurant which was my only complaint all holiday and not a major one. Ladies if you are thinking of planning a wedding here go for it..... do not be put off by any of the bad reviews on here :-) We had an amazing time - Highly recommended.

We went to this hotel beginning of May 2010.

From the moment we arrived (and immediately we got a welcome cocktail even we were still checking in) untill we left we liked Jamaica and this resort!

The resort is great, rooms are big and nice (take golden package, then you get top floors and no mosquitos), bars are good, swimming pool is fantastic, beach is perfect, snorkelling is ok, a la carte (especially the Japanese - with show cooking) are good. Garden grill is real rubish...

We did a lot of excursions:

duo swim with dolphins (fantastic)
Bob Marley (9 miles), great
YS falls and black river (must do)
San Antonio and blue lagoon (also good)
blue mountain bicycle tour (great views, but the cycling is not very adventurous)
Martha Brae rafting (romantic and really great)

We had a fantastic holiday in Jamaica and will surely return...
The resort was great...
jerk chicken was great...

Wish we could have stayed longer. Loved the resort. Great big rooms, lots to do. Amazing food with something for everyone. Loved getting drinks on the outdoor terrace bar. Entertainment was good. Staff was very friendly. We had the Golden club and it was well worth it. We had sodas, waters, delivered in our room daily. There were slippers, towels, and bathrobes as well. The beaches at the far side past beach bar were best as the ones closet to pools were rocky. Got very sunburned very quickly at 8am in the morning for just an hour so load up on sunscreen and don't stay out for more then an hour at a time unless wearing a lot of sunscreen. Hired a cab that was out front to take us into town for shopping which was well worth it since he took us to where we wanted to go and stayed with us and then brought us back. He was great and he took us back to the airport the next day.

Pros:
-maids good (with tips they were better)
-choice of food, you could always find something you liked
-could always gind a beach chair/pool chair
-bartenders very friendly
-beautiful place!!!!
-good layout of building - huge resort but seemed like we were not walking too much

Cons:
-first day room was not cleaned
-beach in front of pool was not accessible and the sand was hard
-ran out of clean beach towels daily
-only 2 computers for internet with golden package

**I have read many reviews and think that we had such a great time because we purchased the "golden package" which pre-booked our reservations at 4 a la cartes, free internet, room service, robes/slippers, ocean view.

**We brought our own clamato and rimmer and the lobby bar kept it for us an made us a caesar when ever we wanted. If you have a favourite drink they can accomodate you well.

Made a reservation months ago - to find not enough rooms for the party despite confirmation. hotel management shocking - rude and dismissive. one manager looked me in the face and made a very insulting comment in spanish - he was shocked when i told him that my patner of 13 years is Mexican and I understood every word lived there for 7 years - wonderful country please visit!). Satisfaction was short lived though it was nice to see the look on his face. I have made a written complaint (in english and spanish) so await a response from GBP hotel.

front desk staff great - young man named Craig was so helpful and efficient even when trying to deal with the overbooking problems which i believe is a management issue (they sold more rooms than they have so some of our party had to be moved to another hotel and some share 4 to a room instead of 2). Recommend asking for Craig if you need anything as he is very good and should be promoted or recognized for his work.

Room was nice but not ready even though we didn't check in (or should I say try and check in) - had not been cleaned, bathroom actually dirty from previous guests.

Food not great - thank goodness for jerk chicken and the bar. Enjoyed drinks but was sometimes disappointed that they didn't have things like fresh bananas for the daquiris - you see bananas sold all along the roadside!

Regular staff great - I did tip as I had a good service from front desk and bar staff, but management should be pulled up - perhaps a more diverse management would resolve the issue - they seem to have forgotten slavery was abolished many years ago, and need some real customer service skills. I can onl imagine how they treat their staff if their arrogance and rudeness to paying guests is anything to go by.

A real shame as a beautiful property, tarnished by the behavior of the more senior staff. I will let you know the response from the hotel when (if) I get one.

We arrived at the hotel and were just blown away. Both of us having visited many different places throughout the world, we were both beyond impressed with the hotel. It was gorgeous and huge, we actually got lost quite a few times. The food was delicious, and service was wonderful. We never were bored, and if you didn't want to leave the hotel you didn't have to. Travel agents for multiple day trips were informative and very helpful with prices ranging from 60 - 140 US. We were only able to take one because of time constrants, and we had a fabulous day. Our only complaint was that the hotel was so big that some things were difficult to find (however, not really a complaint at all). We had a great time and would use Grand Bahia again and would recommend it to everyone. 5 stars!!!!
