We have spend several vacations at this resort. All in all in is a very good resort. What I was told on the last vacation was that the staff is paid minimum wage in Jamaican currency. We are paying the bahia principe in Cnd & US currency. When you realize the incredible gap in Jamaican & American currencies you can only come to the conclusion that colonialism is not dead. Someone is making a killing in my view. The Jamaican society is a hard working wonderful people. Please folks---tip them in our currency--generously if you can, especially the chamber maids. This is a very impoverished nation.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the newer section facing the ocean.

decided to take the children to jamaica as i have been numerous times before. this hotel is by far the worst i have stayed in. ever! the kind entertainment team and restaurant staff are amazing though, the hotel management team are an embarrassment to them.

1. on arrival, we were already checked in which you would think would be good but as we got off the coach, madness consumed the lobby and we were left with two children under 5 not knowing where our room was, stood in the lobby waiting for service for around 20 mins.

2. cockroaches in the room.

3. very, very bad over crowding with lots of american and canadian parties over taking the hotel.

4. due to the over crowding of the hotel, meal time are a farse... because of the rush to get food out as it i in such high demand from the americans and canadians who pile their plates soooo high, i nearly fed my 1 year old raw chicken as it had not been cooked properly. thank god i check for things like that. i made a complaint but saw NO results.

5. entertainment crew made a fantastic effort with my children and myself which was pleasant. its a shame that they are treated so poorl by the management. they put in such long hours and work soo hard going over and above for all guests.

6. i found a HAIR IN MY FOOD TWICE.

overall, i would never travel to this hotel ever.

My husband and I were skeptical about this resort because we saw all of the negative reviews. It was wonderful! Great nightlife, great excursions, great service, very clean, and a good variety of food. We did upgrade to the Gold package which I have heard makes a difference. You get different colored bracelets and bigger rooms. You also get use of the private air conditioned room to check in and out as well as free internet service. We 100% recommend upgrading! It is worth it! We met some great people and had a blast. There is always something going on by the pools for kids of all ages and adults (games and contests). We did the Dunns River excursion and the Dune Buggies! I highly recommend this resort if you are looking for a great time!

Room Tip: Any room higher than the first level because mosquitos tended to be a problem....even though we did...

I did not have high expectations, all for curiosity since I had never been to Jamaica before, however, stayed at the Bahia hotel in the Mayan Riviera the year previous. It is as if the hotels have no similar standards. The room was clean, although every day the maid service would forget something...from coffee to towels. A la cartes were histerical - the steak house ran out of steak (wth). Italian, waiting over an hour for the meal (they had two wedding parties attending this restaurant at this time and must not have factored cooking all of these entries at one time...no dessert left. The jerk chicken hut ran out quite early in the lunch hour, and cleanliness was missed entirely. It was as if it missed the mark in every category. It did rain for two days and nights which wiped out the indoor theatre...left without activities for this period of time. Sadly, there were many 'drunks' which changed the atmosphere somewhat - guess I just can't get into trailer trash. The excertions...really...Bob Marley tour high on the recommendations...not to mention being approached for pot twice before leaving the airport. I am a good, clean fun kind of person, and did have fun with my friends ... will not however return.

Room Tip: I think the higher floors have less traffic and therefore didn't have to hear people screaming t...

I will start with after I read some of the reviews I was a little worried about going to this hotel but I had nothing to worry about !
We travelled the week of Nov 30th, with 6 adults and a 3 yr old. It was perfect !
The rooms were nice, clean and had a beautiful view. If you go to bed early, ask not to be facing the nightly entertainment as it's pretty loud.
Food was good, and the a la carte food was excellent. The Jerk chicken hut was awesome, yes there are birds flying around but it's outside right on the water !! What do people expect.
Service was great, the odd morning we had a server that didn't seem too awake but for the most the service was great.
THE POOL - it is great !! And perfect for a 3 year old with a section just for kids, and then one end with a beach like entry that was shallow.
It was a great vacation !

Room Tip: Facing the outside, you can hear the nightly entertainment. Not the disco just the show that was on...

Joined my parents for last week of there holiday and loved the hotel and grounds.Had no complaints about my room it was lovely no problems. I found the food being served was ok nothing too special and not very warm, to be honest i,ve had better at other less stared hotels in Jamaica.I loved the Japanese place best out of all the places you can eat there.Service at all 4 restaurants was slow unless you were having your plate wipped away from you as you finished eating. There is a notice outside some of the restaurants with pictures on saying what you can and can,t wear to go into these restaurants -its very annoying to see people being let in when they havent dressed up and you and everyone else have. Pool was nice i stayed down the quite end as one end very loud. Beach was a disappointment only went on it once. My parents had paid extra for a service called the Golden club which really wasn,t worth it in 2 weeks that they were there, they only got snacks in there room replenished once and the turn down service happened 3 times- they complained and got nowhere. If your not fussed about getting your washing back then use the laundry service- took nearly 5 days to get washing back- complaining does,nt speed them up either. This is not a hotel i would rush back too.

This was our first experience with a Grand Bahia resort and our 6 th. destination vacation this year. We travel extensively and appreciate quality service as a key indicator of a great resort.

I Emailed in advance and obtained our dinner reservations in advance
Travelling Royal Golden provided us check in on the bus to the resort which was super convenient. It is a about 1 hour out of Montego Bay.

Our room as requested was on the 5th floor in the 17000 building overlooking the west beach.
The west beach extends out to the nude beach fence and has lots of loungers and shaded areas. It also has a firm sand bottom out to about 6 ft deep. There is a reef further off shore which is great for snorkelling.

The food was good in both the al a carte and buffet restaurants with a nice selection of food. Of particular note as being very good, was the jerk chicken at the Picsis beach snack bar and the food at Don Pablo.

The staff are very friendly but lack the professionalism of higher quality resorts, which makes the customer service experience hit or miss. The big gap is consistent quality execution.

Our room was well worn with the shower door hanging off the hinges.Several calls for maintenance repairs to fix the shower door delivered no results. There were also stains on the bedding and mould on the walls. The word "grungy" would be an apt description with some areas clean and other not. At least the air conditioning worked.

Housekeeping was also hit and miss. Imagine you return to your room from a day at the beach with plans to shower and get ready for dinner only to find you have no towels in your room. You call housekeeping and they tell you "no problem". An hour later still no towels you call again and again "no problem". Another hour goes by and you make a third call to finally receive some towels. Now you need to rush to get ready in order to make your dinner reservation. You might be OK with that occurring one day, but 3 out of 7 is unacceptable. Another big miss in customer service.

I do not think the problems we experienced were the fault of the staff members we met, most of whom could not have been more helpful or considerate. The management of this resort seems to focus more effort on getting people into their time share sales sessions than on ensuring the facility operates smoothly. Executing a quality customer experience is not their strong point.

For me, the worst experience was my wife collapsing on the floor in a public area as a result of a medical condition she has. Several staff members passed her by without even checking to see if she needed assistance. Not their job I guess!

Overall for what we paid the resort was good value but not exceptional. I would consider returning to Jamaica but would not return to this resort nor would I book a Grand Bahia elsewhere as there are other brands that do deliver high quality service consistently.
