“Excellent throughout”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2007

Just returned from two week holiday at club decameron. Weather fab, hotel, staff, food, and gardens excellent. Plenty of activities and watersports (say hi to fabian at the watersports) anything you need he will sort you out. Recardo (waiter) is also excellent. Never had a waiter that is so good at his job anywhere. Nothing is to much trouble for him. If your wine glass is empty he will soon fill it up for you without having to ask. Cannot really fault this place. The only bad bits (not many) is the snack bar is limited and there is not a lot of choice at the buffet, especially for children, but food is cooked to perfection. the only other down side is the loud music, and the entertainment which is not very good ( they need to have a look at the dominican)

This was without a doubt the best holiday we have ever had! We booked through Virgin Holidays and booked the Garden View rooms which were lovely. Check in was a breeze with a complimentary glass of rum punch (more than welcome after the trip from the airport!). Weather was windy for the first week (out of anyones control so what's the big deal!) but much hotter the second week.
Every member of staff we encountered was polite and friendly - even the poor cleaner who tried to help my brother-in-law who took a tumble into some bushes after an afternoon drinking session at the Jetty Bar with George! He pours a mean rum - be warned! Although he is very good at dishing out the 'Fire water' when you start to sway! Dunn's River Falls are a must - take the Cool Runnings trip on the catamaran from Ocho Rhios.
The food was superb - even getting to the restaurant 20 minutes before the end of dinner there's still plenty of fresh food.
We're already looking to book for next year - it's a wonderful place.

After booking our holiday, me and my partner read the reveiws on this resort, and dreaded arriving at the Royal Decameron, as we were worried about meeting the worse when we arrived at our destination.
Check in was fast, with no problems, we were allocated to our room, which was a courtyard room, with a fantastic view of a tropical garden, the entertainment staff lived above us but there was no problem with niose or anything in that nature, they knew we had come away to relax and enjoy ourselves, and they respected that.
The entertainment team were FANTATSIC (Delmore,O'Neil,Dale,Maria and Jodie), they knew how to keep an audience of a vast age range amused. Everyday, various activities took place, such as iron man and woman and drinking competitions (beer for the adults n fruit punch for the kiddies) pool and beach olympics, vollyball, cricket, football (just to name a few) and everyone is welcomed to play, regardless of your physical state or how good you are at the sport. If this isn't for you, then the quiet pool was situated well away from all the activities, and you could relax all day there (children wer'nt allowed near the quiet pool though). Night entertainment is just as good, the local band that performs are brilliant the first few times, but after you see them every night, you get a bit tired of seeing them, however they do play different songs everynight, adding a reggae twist to songs old and new...James Blunt had a bit of it one night, which was intersting. There were many night competions aswell, like 'Mr Rasterman', 'Miss Decameron',
'The couples gameshow' and 'battle of the sexes' , these were such a laugh, and defonatly shouldn't be missed.
The food was great, having specialties from all around the world, on different nights, one night was Chinease, and another was American, and you cant forget the Jamaican night (Jerk chicken is a must!!!!) . Each meal time they had an 'action station' , where they made specialities, such as ceaser salads, fajita wraps, (warm or cold) and panninis, (toasted sandwhiches), and you could add what ever ingredients you liked. We only visited one of the two 'a la carte' restaraunts, and it was delcious. There is also a snack bar, open from 12 untill 5, if you get peckish...making snaks such as burgers, pizzas and chips.
The bar staff are the 'bees knees', (that might just be as the beer is free!) George from the Jetty bar is a laugh!! I had sunstroke on the 3rd day, so i told my partner to go out and not stay in the room with me, he went out n George decided to make him 'Daves special cocktails', yes he got absoloutly wasted, George is very generous with his overproof rum!! Theres loads of cocktails to choose from, and they make all the classics too, theres a good range for the kids to drink aswel, they kind of feel grown up when they go to the bar n ask for a cocktail (none alcholic of course!!) Then you have all your spirts too, n there is no limits on how many drinks you get.
The beach was lovely, and was kept very clean, it was bigger then we expected. The sea was crystal clear, and the water sports availiable were at a good standard, (pedaloes, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, glass bottam boat ect) these were free of charge, had no time limit and could be used as many times as you liked, and with the waters being cyrstal clear you never saw the same thing twice. If you are intersted in sealife this would be a superb place to visit, there are reams and reams of coral with thousands of tropical fish everywhere.
If you were to stay at this hotel and you didnt like it, a free upgrade was availiable to a hotel closer to the airport, out of all the people we spoke to, no one took this upgrdade, as they liked the Royal Decameron's friendly atmosphere so much.
If a good laid back friendly atmosphere is what you'r looking for, then we would recommend the Royal Decameron ANY day!
If anyone is going soon, let the entertaiment staff know that Gemma and Dave are missing them....and have allready booked for next year!!!

This was our first time in Jamaica and we were very impressed.
The cottages were nice, clean and roomy. When we got there
everything was ready and any little things were resolved instantly, no hassle, no problems.
The food was good, not the variety of your 5 star hotel, but good, and enough choices, you won't go hungry.
Staff at the hotel is very nice and helpful. Everyone is trying to make your vacation beautiful and relaxing.
The beach was nice, but small. If you are expecting miles and miles of white sandy beaches you won't find it here. However,
swimming is still very good, snorkeling is awsome, and water sports are great.
Not much to do for the kids, kids club is from 4 to 11, and the pool is too deep for the little ones, so keep them on the beach, they will be happy and fine.

We loved this resort and cannot wait to go back. We had a garden view cottage which was all we could ask for; clean, roomy, comfy bed and the a/c was a much welcomed retreat from that Jamaican heat/humidity! The staff were very friendly, fun and helpful. The food was good but not nearly enough local dishes; lots of variety though. The entertainment was good and the music around the pools good too. The beaches were nice and the ocean perfect. No complaints about the resort at all. Do yourself a favor though and experience Jamaica OUTside of the resort! You will notice that everywhere you go there is wicked reggae music playing. Such a good vibe everywhere we went. The people were great; friendly and willing to offer advice on where to go and what to see, where the best deals are, etc; just ask! No worries re: personal safety; just use your common sense and treat people with respect. Smiles really do go a long way. LOVE Jamaica and would recommend this resort to friends.

Myself and our wedding party (13 in total) stayed here at the end of March having booked 18 months ago. They put is in the staff overflow accomodation which was nothing short of disgraceful! Air cons faulty, damp in rooms, dirty bedding and staff coming and going all day and night. Throught constant moaning we (bride and groom) managed to upgrade to a bungalow. These were very nice, and if our original accomodation had been to this standard there would have been 'no problem', however the rest of our party was not so lucky. Food here excellent, however not all the staff realised they were there to help us. We were harassed by the cleaners for tips, and ignored by some of the bar staff for drinks (we were even refused on more than one occasion because we had the cheek to ask for one drink each for the whole family. Two of the wedding party women were also propositioned by the gardeners!!
Overall i would say you get what you pay for here, it is 3 star and the majority of staff are nice and helpful, but i would 110% stay away unless you book into one of the bungalows. If i were to do it again i would pay a bit more and stay in a 4/5 star hotel instead.

We travelled on the 28th March 07 for 2 weeks with our children aged 10 and 15 via Virgin. We had previously arranged our wedding direct with the Hotel with Diane Fairchild (Ann has now left).

We couldnt book an Ocean front loft room with Virgin and they had various rules and regs about the kids having to be under 12. We had emailed the Hotel over the past few moths who agreed to reserve an ocean front for us. When we arrived we were put in a Mountain Suite as was booked with Virgin. I have to say they are not good. The one we had (407) overlooked the road and was very tatty. We met with Diane to discuss the wedding the next morning and by 1 pm she had placed us in an oceanfront (number 11), This was great with a separate lounge and loft sleeping area for the children with 2 single beds. We had a separate double room and a fridge. It was 2 steps to the ocean and about 20 to the jetty/swing bar.

The weather was a little windy and cloudy but very warm and we met with the photographer Paul and the Minister before our wedding on Monday 2nd. The gazebo was decorated beautifully. We had a few spectators who we now consider to be friends. Hello Gary & Maria, Caroline & Bryan, Lee & Becky, Becky & Chris and those who I may have forgotten. The ceremony was relaxed and short and we followed the champagne and cake with a few drinks at the jetty bar with the infamous George and then dinner at the Jasmine Delta. I would recommend the Jasmine, it has a varied menu from Chinese to Asian and we had no trouble reserving this when required.

The buffet was fine. Also had dinner a couple of times in the Jamaican - the menu doesnt change but the food was good.

The Jasmine doubles up as a snack bar during the day serving good burgers pizzas and chicken wings - would usually find our kids there of an afternoon!

A big hello to Mel/Malcolm and Sharon/Mark. Mark and Sharon renewed their vows when we were there and we had many a great time together at the swing bar and fish spotting alongside it!

I know everyone gives George a mention and yes he is great but Stewie who is a very tall 21 year old barman was fantastic. He usually covers the jetty bar on a Monday and perhaps Tuesday evening. You must try a Bob Marley and a Diablo (made with chilli sauce!!). he is very entertaining and fun as is Smiley.

We visited Salem Basic School with a cash contribution arranged via Carla of Babashak. Wow what a lady she is ! Her B & B which she runs with her husband Dave is very cool and is next door to RDCC - it is safe to take a stroll over there and to the beach at Fishermans Cove where we met fishermen and a resident Pelican. The reception we had from the school was amazing and the children were so bright and happy given that they dont have a lot.

We hired 2 taxi drivers from outside the hotel gates Trevor and Noel. A big hello to Trevor who was great company. We paid $100 for the day to take us where we wanted to go - Rocklands Bird Sanctuary and $50 for a trip to Dunns River. Noel charged $60 to take us to 9 mile. Enjoyed all 3 trips.

Went to Ocho Rios on the free Virgin bus that was offered - very good - expect to be hassled a little in the markets but we found it to be good fun higgling!

The hotel entertainment was sometimes good sometimes just ok. A big up to Albert aged 72. He makes and sells hats and fruit bowls around the hotel by day and sings with his group on occasion of an evening, He will tell you he is awful. He was absolutely great and had us all on stage singing and dancing to Bob Marley.

The owners were at the resort whilst we were there Richard and his sons Andrew and Tim. Spent a bit of time with Andrew at the bar, very friendly and good company although a major show off when water skiing,. All water sports and boat trips were free.m We gave a few dollars to the speed boat guy who took us out along the coast with Andrew water skiing behing - great fun.

We were all very sad to leave and met and made some lovely friends along the way. A final thank you to Diane Fairchild who made out wedding run like clockwork and her new assistant Davian. Hope to be back some time soon.
