“Great time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Just come back from the Royal Decameron , we found the cottages Being in need of a bit of TLC,
but very clean and plenty of room. Room 104 situated just right not to far away from anything. Our cleaner Eyadnye was a star, nothing to much trouble and you could have a good laugh with her.
Plenty of food sometimes not brilliant but edible, if you couldnt find anything that you liked then I would say you are too fussy. The waiters and waitresses were excellent, they got use to me using my own teabags, I prefer decaf they were convinced they were Earl Grey (can't stand the stuff)
Drinks were alot better than other all inclusives we have been to but not too many smiles from the bar staff

Room Tip: Room104 not to far from stage, disco not that we used it and the restaurant.but far enough away so w...

After booking this and reading all the bad reviews I was quite apprehensive about going. However I was pleasently surprised.

Food was OK, better food was served in the other restaurants on site.

Rooms were tired and dated but that's what you get for the price.

The main bonus were the staff, they completely made our holiday and made it one I will never forget.

Check in was quick, room was spotless, air conditioning worked beautifully. There was no shortage on the amount nor variety of food. Entertainment was PHENOMENAL!!!! Big up the dancers and the evolution of Jamaican music. The beach could've been just a tad cleaner but it was beautiful nonetheless and we were able to swim.

Room Tip: Not much privacy with huts on the beach. Sunbathers are basically at your door step. Too far back of...

The cottages were charming, basic yes, but comfortable, cool and clean. Reception staff very lovely and helpful. My broken hair dryer was promptly mended and we were telephoned the following day to ensure all was to our satisfaction. Food- not usually a fan of buffet meals but excellent and good quality with a wide selection. Also 2 good a la carte restaurants when you want to be waited on. Waiters- mostly good, although I have to say the older ones not as attentive and rarely offered to get a drink from the bar. Not ageist just an observation. Bar staff efficient and fun, dancing, singing and ringing their bell adds to the fun atmosphere. Porterage I was never allowed to lift a bag and we were accompanied to our room unlike a well known 5 star hotel I stayed in last year (and complained about) Cleaners came every day and did a good job. Beach attendants kept the outdoors well maintained. Only complaint I would have here is perhaps a little too busy- i.e. sifting sand around you when you're trying to relax is a little disconcerting, especially for us contact lens wearers. But seems churlish to complain about too much maintenance perhaps? Entertainment- well those Jamaicans know how to dance don't they? and I certainly didn't tire of watching them! The fun crew worked hard all day to make the Royal Decameron Club Caribbean a cool, fun and relaxed place to be. All in all a great escape and better than all the 5 Star hotels I have ever stayed in. I would highly recommend it, if you haven't already guessed...

Room Tip: We stayed beach front but any of the garden cottages also looked divine. Not sure about the other ro...

We have just got back from a 2 week stay here and we can honestly say we absolutely loved everything about it. We paid extra for a seaview cottage although we realised we needn't have done when we saw the garden cottages, they were in beautiful surroundings. The air con was one of the best we have ever had! The beach areas were lovely and well maintained. The hotel grounds were very clean. The atmosphere at the hotel was wonderful. The food was great with loads of choices. The staff were very friendly. The entertainment was average but the team were great and very enthusiastic. The bar staff were larger than life characters and added to the atmosphere. The hotel runs a shuttle bus into Ocho Rios to the shopping mall which was about 20 mins away. We booked 2 trips with our holiday rep, one to Dunns River Falls and one to Ricks Café in Negril. We would thoroughly recommend both of these. The hotel is a 3 star hotel, but we think it should be 4. We have stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels and we could not fault the Royal Decameron. We cannot understand the negative comments. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. We wish we were still there!

Room Tip: Although our seaview cottage was lovely we did not have steps down to the beach like most others - t...

we traveled from may 3rd to the 25th for our silver wedding anniversary.we came to this hotel in 2009 and loved it so was happy to book again, after reading reviews over the last couple of years i was a little worried about the french but was told by the travel agent that they would be left by the end of april however this was not the case we were lucky we only had a few days with them they are as stated in other reviews adults and kids the same "no respect "there own fun crew were the same they never wanted anything to do with you unless you are french i dont go to jamaica to here them shouting "bonjour"while enjoying a wonderful breakfast in the morning the jetty bar at night was a french only zone and you were made to feel most unwelcome, how the staff kept there cool i will never know be aware there season starts again in october and ends middle of may 2014.the hotel changed after they went and got back to the royal decameron we knew and loved.
we landed in a thunderstorm and after a flight delay in birmingham but as always even though it was still raining the smiles of the jamaicans shone through and our first choice rep amaril was wonderful we were checked into the hotel on the bus so after traveling to the hotel we were given a cocktail and taken directly to our room wonderful!!! we were in room 34 and directly against the quiet pool over looking wonderful gardens our maid was the best we have ever had we had fresh flowers every day we were there and on our anniversary the room was full she always had a chat when we saw her she looked after us like we were he own. a wonderful lady she never asked to be tipped but when you are looked after like we were theres no question we didnt tip her every day but made sure the day before we left we gave her our extra tip as if you leave the money in the room maintenance know you are leaving and get there first. the room was clean and well kept and no problems bit of a iffy standered lamp but we didnt use it the three weeks we were there we had 3 nights when we got back to the room at night that we could hear music from the road outside but apart from that the room was great basic but thats part of there charm and a reason for us to go back. we had champagne delivered to our room and a letter from management congratulating us and thanking us for returning thats how special this place is its not the most upto date its not 5* but its more than any 5* for service every member of staff want the best for you from the towel lady to the life guards from maids to gardeners bar staff reception and restaurant staff. that to me is what makes a good holiday will we go back ..you bet but not when the french are there this is the most relaxing place we have ever been ....paradise

Room Tip: no need for sea view garden cottages wonderful
