“Great time at the Decameron”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

I am not going to talk about the French at the hotel, yes they are noisy, all the women puff like chimney pots and their sense of style is non existent. Enough said.

I travelled with my daughter and have just returned from a wonderful week at this lovely layed back hotel. We stayed in a garden hut which was spotless, we loved the big walk in wardrobe a first for us and our maid was wonderful, clean towels every day and our huge king size bed made every day with lovely flower arrangements.

The food is very good, wonderful salad bar, lots of hot dishes and if you have a sweet tooth you will love the desserts. There is also a selection of ice creams at dinner to choose from. Yes the rum and raisin is delicious but so is the coconut and strawberry!

Breakfast was our favourite, six tropical juices to select, omlettes to order with all sorts of fillings, fried eggs to order, scrambled already prepared and of course the wonderful crispy bacon. Cereals, cakes, pastries, cheeses, ham, the list goes on, you certainly will not go hungry or thirsty.

In the afternoon you can to go the Thai Restaurant which doubles up as a burger, hot dog, pizza restaurant from 3 to 5pm and then later at night 11 till 1am for a late snack.

Drinks flow, loads of rum cocktails choose from the list or just go through it!! Beer is good and they do a mean vodka and tonic.

The beach is spotlessly clean and there is plenty of shade and beds. There are loads of beautiful fish to see and they have sunk a bus to make a reef where you can snorkle and see wonderful sea life. Life guards on on duty two points on the beach and round the two swimming pools. Very safe!

Evening entertainment is fun and concentrates around the main bar and the stage where the live shows are held every night. I cannot express how lovely the fun team are they work so hard and are just so friendly. Big thank you to Snoopy who is just so funny. Also a big big thank you to Dave who looked after us from day one. Let me tell you as other guests have told you the staff at the Decameron are wonderful, always a hello, a smile, a chat, they cannot do enough for you and I have travelled to several Caribbean Islands, what warm and friendly people the Jamacians are.

Yiou can go outside the hotel and visit the shops no problem. You will get hassled by people wanting to sell you something but just say no and they leave you alone

There are so many trips to see the Island but as we were only here for week we did two and shopping in Eight Rivers (ocha rios).

Bob Marley - fan or not this is one to do, it is spiritual with a bit of fun thrown in. Both he and his mother's mausoleum is beautiful, his music is playing it is just a wonderful experience.

Dunns falls, this is must also, great fun again a beautiful place.

We travelled with First Choice and went Premium, if you are able, do upgrade to Premium. Our flight out and back was superb. Both our crews were so lovely and attentive, They certainly look after you on TOM air and First Choice/Thompson you should be proud of your staff even check in was fun just smily faces!!

We cannot wait for our next trip to the wonderful Caribbean in September.

Thank you Royal Decameron and Thomson/First Choice.

We have recently returned from staying at the royal decameron for 2 weeks at the end of Feb. The holiday started not as planned with heavy rain, and then ending up with probably the noisiest cottage on the whole complex. After asking to change room the following morning this was arranged and we had a new room in a much quieter area by early afternoon. After this i can say the only thing have any unwanted effect was 2 more days of ran (shame you cant ask that to go away), however there was plenty still to do on the resort as there are lots of free activities to take part in.

The rooms are set in gardens which are full of caribbean plants and 3 resident peacocks. The rooms are large and airy and for what is a 3 start accommodation it is perfectly fine for your stay, especially as not much time is spent in the rooms. If you want a quiet room don't have rooms 1 - 4 as these are all looking out to see but also very close to the main bar/stage and restaurants, I would advise a room on the right of the resort (higher numbers).

There are 3 restaurants to choose from, 1 main buffet where there is plenty of choice and generally theme nights. You can also book in to either of the al a carte's for thai or seafood. If you fancy Italian or Japanese you can ask reception to book you in to the sister resort up the road and use the free transport to get there.

You may be offered a chance to go to a shopping mall in Ocho Rios, please beware it is free but the reason for this is the taj mahal shopping centre pay for you to go, there are about 20 shops here and you can't leave the complex to look around, if you do, you have pay for a taxi back to the resort as there isn't much of a bus service here.

The entertainment team work non stop and i have no idea where they get the energy from, they are all very friendly and do everything from daytime activities to the nightly entertainment. A few people say this isn't brilliant but we only saw the same show once and it was never that bad.

This holiday was made so enjoyable by the staff and locals of Jamaica being so friendly and keeping the atmosphere very relaxed. We didn't want to return home at the end of this holiday and within 2 weeks of being home we have already booked to go back next year.

Room Tip: Rooms with higher numbers are in the quieter locations

This is the friendliest resort we have ever stayed in - all of the staff that we saw and spoke to seemed happy and were friendly. There are French people here, but its really not a problem - English people can join in the activities and entertainments too! The huts are basic but clean and all have a lovely view , either of the sea of the gardens. The bed is 6 foot wide so you can both stretch out and relax. The resort never seemed too busy - there was enough beach or pool or garden or bar for anybody who wanted to be there. The adults only pool is a quiet oasis - I loved swimming there. The drinks were good quality for an all inclusive i.e. the brands you see in the duty free and local stores not rocket fuel imported for all inclusive resorts. The food is good - enough choice for vegetarians - plenty of fresh salads, vegetables and fruit. Go and have fun!

Room Tip: The sea view cottages are right on the beach - we fell asleep and woke up to the sound of the sea.

We are recently returned from a two week stay, from our initital arrival the Hotel the cottages, resturants, grounds etc, were very well maintained and cleaned daily. No problem! Unfortunately do to the weather conditions, we only went in to the sea once, and it wasnt the ususal golden sands that we have come to expect, but a man made beach and plenty of coral to to catch your toes on (take beach shoes) The staff from the guys cleaning the beaches, though to Managment very cheerful and helpful. Scoobydo and the guys on the jetty bar particularly in the evenings, made it for us. No problem! On the down side, we were expecting a quiet holiday, and having looked on the First Choice web site, was expecting it to be adults only, others that we spoke to said the same, what we hadnt expected was a large contingent of french holiday makers, with (some very badly behaved children - from toddlers to teens) and their own what seemed like non stop "entertainment" team - Camp Lookea ! We were not the only ones that raised these issues, some of the staff had problems with the rudeness of the french, and it appeared that the French "Entertainment team" didnt help matters either. We would have prefered a more local Jamaican experience in the evenings, not game show/quiz/bingo but more of the singer that started off the evening and the 3 guys that sang and played local instruments around lunch time. If we did go back to Jamaica we wouldnt stay here.

Room Tip: We had a cottage, towards the back, quiet and sheltered from the wind, had to ask an pay for a fridg...

Just returned from a 10day holiday and had a fantastic time. I am very choosy over my holidays and this has to be the best ever. The staff are so friendly and helpful always smiling and happy. The entertainment team Scooby, Candy, Princess, Tommy, Cassie and Germaine to name a few were amazing they made our holiday I have never known an entertainment team so talented. The food was good with plenty of variety. I will return hopefully later this year

My best friend & I stayed two weeks at the RDCC at the begining of March 2013 & had a wonderful time. The staff was very helpful, the food was good & a nice selection right down to the desserts. We met three very nice ladies there who live in Canada (one from the US) & have been coming to Jamaica for 23 yrs. They were also very helpful, as it was our first time to Jamaica. The fun crew , Candy,Tommy, Scooby, Cassie, Princess & Buffy were all very good at what they do, making you feel welcome & to entertain you and trust they are very entertaining. The bar staff & the maids make sure you are also taken care of. The security is everywhere, they also do an irie job, ya mon. The only reason for giving the marks I did is because of all the very rude French people. They need to learn some manners! But over all loved the place & hope to go back next year before the French arrive.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms near the stage.

We are returning guests to Club Caribbean. Unfortunately when we visited in March 2013 we found ourselves surrounded by hundreds of French holiday makers. The resort seems to have been taken over by a French company called Camp Lookea who bring a vast number of French reps and animation team. All announcements/activities are now in French and spoil the Jamaican vibe.

During our trip there were several French teenagers who roamed round he resort in groups causing trouble, unfortunately some of this behaviour appeared to be condoned by a couple of the French animation team.

Many staff we spoke to told us they found a lot of French guests to be bad mannered and rude towards them, we observed for ourselves whilst at the resort.

Rooms were clean and tidy, food and drink plentiful with load of choices.

Will we return? Yes, we love the resort, the Jamaican staff are amazing and a credit to the resort. However In future we will avoid travelling during the 'French months' which run from December to April.
