Just so you know we will be making our 3rd trip to CA. Two and a half years ago we went with a group of 8, some family and some friends. We had an absolute blast! It was my brother's 7th time to CA and we went on his recommendation. What he said was "If your expecting a Sandals type of resort you will be disappointed. It's one of the older resorts on the island but it's clean, the food is good and the staff is second to none and you can't beat the price", and he was right. While on that trip we met a couple from Minnesota (Nick and Angel) that we had a lot in common with. Before they left we exchanged email addresses. We have become very good friends and we met them for our 2nd trip to CA March 2010 for their 10th anniversary. That was their 7th or 8th time to CA. On this trip we also met couples from Wisconson and the United Kingdom. We are all meeting February 15th - the 22nd, 2011. The couple from the U.K. are getting married at CA! Club Ambiance has 90 rooms (nice and small) and is an adult only resort which was so nice! I read some of the reviews that said the water pressure in the shower was low and there was often times not enough hot water. You have to plan your showers so as not to shower during the peak times. If you are someone who has ever traveled you will know that this can happen in most resorts and hotels. It's not unusual so get over it! The food is good! They have a good selection and always have several customary Jamaican dishes some of which you will like and some you may not. It's buffet style and there is a different theme every night. The fruits and vegetables are so fresh and delicious! If you go hungry it's your own falt and you must be a very picky eater! Breakfast is a delight and for the person or persons who said breakfast was horrible, you must have eaten on the roadside somewhere else. You have a great choice! Cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt (home made) scrammble eggs, sausage, beacon, omelets cooked to order (Colon is the best omelt chef) and either french toast or pancakes. Lunch is also buffet style and there is also the outside grill with great burgers, fries or grilled ham and cheese. The kitchen and wait staff are fantastic! There are 3 bars and plenty of bar tenders so you won't wait long for a drink. And the drinks are excellent (beware the Big Bamboo)! Barney, Junior, Phillip ("Patch"), Mellonie, Kerri, Niegel and several others always serve your drinks with a smile and they will remember what you are drinking. Be generous and tip these people. Everyone works hard to make your stay fun and there pay is very low. They very much appreciate what you give them and they don't do a great job with the expectation of being tipped. They take pride in what they do. Most of the staff have been there for quite a few years. They all treat you like family and remember your name even if a year or 2 passes by before they see you again. For those who said the staff didn't pay any attention to them didn't engage any of them. If you stay to yourself the whole time they think you don't want to be bothered. Come on people, your on vacation!! Your there to have fun so losen up!
As for the entertainment you have to read the schedule each day that you go for breakfast so you know whats going on for the day. You don't have to do anything if you don't want to. Some days you just choose to lounge around. The staff is great about trying to get people involved, but if you don't want to they don't bother you. Damion, Omar and Dexter will keep you laughing! The club band will entertain you with their music each night as well as other events and special guest appearences. The crab races are a riot!! The bars open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 11:00 p.m. The peer bar closes a little earlier sometimes. For you late night owls the Fantasia Disco stays open until 2:00 a.m. They have a nice pool with a bar at poolside and there is kyaking, pedal boats, snorkling and other ammenities all included. The pool staff does a great job! I hope Mark and Mr. "T" are still there. Check out their web site to see all that's there. There isn't a beach that you can take a long walk on so if this is what you are looking for this isn't your type of place. The Zebra jeep tour was a lot of fun! The tours are a little pricy so be selective. Ask some of the guest to get an idea on which ones are worth the expense.
The housekeeping staff are very good and will take care of all of your needs! Thank you to Gilbert (manager) and Alex (owner) for keeping Club Ambiance a pleasure to return to! I can't wait for Feb. 2011!!
