This was our third trip to Grand Lido now Rio Bueno and our 6th trip to Jamaica. We loved this resort enough to go back for a third trip but were greatly disappointed this time. This resort has no beach for the "textile" side that is safe to wonder out for a swim. Now you have to pay $85 a day to go to the "au natural" side. We felt this is ridiculous to spend that much for a swim in the ocean. They used to have a bar/grill on the far end of the resort (textile side) that was great, friendly and we had lunch and happy hour there many times. They now close the bar at 6pm and no food at all. This was another big disappointment to us.
Diving...we have experienced boat problems before but have been able to dive in our previous trips. But this time the dive boat was out of service for our whole 7 day trip. We love to dive in Jamaica so this time we had to go over to Runaway Bay for diving. Hedonism III did not have a boat as well so they had three resorts operating out of Runaway Bay with one boat. We had to wait all day for one dive trip. It was really difficult for us AND our dive masters. The dive masters were great and always trying their best to accommodate us.
All in all, the staff at the resort were awesome and friendly (even more so than in the past) but we felt that management has done Rio Bueno a huge disservice by the changes it has made. This resort had the feel of a more upper scale resort and they are taking that away. We did feel the food was excellent, the French restaurant was superb and the Sushi was the best we have ever had. We had massages that were fabulous.
Due to the changes they have made at the resort and the frustration with the diving experience, we don't plan to go back to Rio Bueno.

Bet that heading got your attention. This was our 5th stay at the Rio Bueno (formerly Grand Lido Braco), and overall the the changes with the new management and branding were not that big a deal. The only changes that we really noticed were that the 24hr bar is now a 7hr bar from 11am to 6pm, and there is no longer any room service (like we really needed to eat more food anyway:) Overall the resort is a good value for the money, and the employees do their best to accommadate you. The one sad and concerning issue on this trip was that some poor local guy slipped on the rocks near the beach and drowned in front of his 3 young kids. This took place around 7am. A guest attempted CPR on him but to no avail. Not even a cop showed up for about an hour, and the whole time his body was laying uncovered about 25 yards from the main pool. And it gets worse. We went out diving and when we came back the body was still laying there uncovered at 11:30am and wasn't removed until just before noon. Don't know if ambulances are non-existent there, but it doesn't look like a good place to be if you need advanced life support.

First of all let my start by saying I was a little afraid after some of the reviews I read. I tried to prepare my self for some things like rocky beach, room problems, etc. We had a little bit of a rocky start checking in. We were not informed that the aunatural side was now extra- $ 85 pp/per day since we were not grandfathered in( booking before Aug). After some time in the office and on the phone with our travel agent we were allowed arm bands during the 2nd day there without charge. Even our travel agent had no idea of this change. Our room was great. There were several people with room problems- no air, no water, no hot water that were always in the office trying to get straightened out but we had a great one and ocean view. Food was great. Had Japanese 2x's, French, Italian and the other restur. Service was good the only complaint we had was getting fast service at the bars. Some were better than others and it was crazy how 1 would have the blender for the afternoon and then had to give it to another one later. Breezes needs to buy more blenders. Staff was great getting you involved in act. if you so choose. If you have never gone totally nude you have to try it. My husband and I weren't sure if we could do this but once we did it was great- just a little weird walking to and from the beach to the bar or pool. Everyone makes you feel comfortable. We went to the falls and that is a must do. We also went shopping which we could have done without. It wasn't all that great unless you are looking specifically for jewelry or something like that. We ended up wasting the best day we had but live and learn. We will skip that next time. I was sad to leave and hope we can go back next year. A word of advice is to be prepared for a slow check in and remember you are not in the US things are a little different. ALso we made dinner reservations a month before just to be on the safe side and had no problems. Hope this helps.
