This resort is a nature-bound, soul-searching and mind-resting place. The area is not a tourist centered place. The design of the resort by Dr. Paul is astonishing. Every touch is like an art piece by nature and it is a life time experience to stay there. Yoga class and massage are offered on site and they are wonderful. I also enjoyed Jamaican breakfast, which you can get by order one day ahead. It is a great place for family gathering and reunion. Will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Fig Tree Hut has a great view and a bunk bed for kids.

Just returned from a week at Great Huts where I had a very relaxing and enjoyable time! Great Huts is a truly unique place, for many reasons. Located in a rain forest and perched high upon cliffs, it provides amazing views of the Caribbean Sea and Boston Bay. Each hut is unique and was designed by the owner, Dr. Paul, who is very hospitable, quite entertaining and gives back to the local community in many ways. The Great Huts staff are friendly and welcoming. I stayed in the Fig Tree Hut, which is amazing: the upper level has a balcony overlooking Boston Bay and the lower level has a huge rain shower which opens onto Boston Bay (a back-to-nature kind of bathing experience for the uninhibited!). I arrived in the evening after dark and although I could hear the sound of waves, I was astonished to see the beautiful view of Boston Bay when I awoke the next morning! In short, Great Huts provides a very unique and relaxing experience. Because of its rustic nature, guests need to be in good shape to fully enjoy all that Great Huts has to offer. Thank you Great Huts for a wonderful week!

I just returned from a fantastic trip and adventure with seven other women to Great Huts. This very unusual place exudes its owners commitment to the African heritage of Jamacains and his own Jewish and spiritual roots. Rustic and simple, it offers a respite from the more hectic pace of our traditional lives. The staff are warm and welcoming and graciously ensure that your stay is relaxed, peaceful and pleasant. Doing yoga outdoors with the talented instructor who was brought in was a memorable and delightful treat as was the sound of the waves of Caribbean Ocean as I slept. Thank you all at Great Huts for your gentle and caring ways!

Over Thanksgiving week, we had booked Sea Grape for 2 nights. When we arrived they informed us that it was double booked for one night and offered us an upgrade to the African Sunrise room. They let us check it out to approve it was okay for us, which it was, as a couple in our early 30's. After climbing up the two ladders, the view speaks for itself. Simply Amazing. The grounds are something out of a movie or dream. Upon walking through the bamboo door of the hotel's entrance, you are immediately transported somewhere else. Somewhere unique, wild, artistic, natural and beautiful. All the staff were amazing and helped us with any request we had. Andre, our bartender, was fantastic and provided many good laughs. Ask him to make "The Andre" and you will enjoy it! We enjoyed our stay so much we booked an additional night and spent all 3 in African Sunrise, I just wanted one more morning to be woken up at sunrise to see the vista and Turkey Vultures enjoying the updrafts.

When I return to GH, I will certainly book African Sunrise again.

If you are considering Great Huts here is the short and simple:
What it is: a once in a lifetime experience well worth a stay and something I think everyone should try. Think luxurious camping.
What it is not: A luxurious hotel by common standards, but the art, look, feel and kindness within the hotel provides luxury of a different kind.

If you are considering it and can handle an outdoors type experience, you will enjoy this place.

PS We had the best lobster of our whole trip at GH (and we ate a lot of lobster)

Room Tip: If you are a couple, and can climb two ladders, pick African Sunrise. Dont worry the staff will car...

We stayed in the Sea Grape hut which is a very large bamboo hut with three rooms - it has breathtaking views across the sea, an amazing outdoor shower (in a garden of its own) and its own jacuzzi perched on the cliffs. We were joined by birds, lizards and fire flies (which makes for a unique night time trip to the outdoor bathroom!), and slept to the sound of the waves. For anyone looking to escape cities and modern life and enjoy an other worldy experience in a natural environment you will love it. Dr Paul, the owner, is very engaging and hospitable and does a tremendous amount for the local community for which he should be applauded. The bar man makes a mean pina colada and is so friendly that it is tempting to sit at the bar all night ordering a range of delicious cocktails! Great place and unforgettable experience - would love to go back.

Great Huts is for everybody who wants to stay away from traditional island resorts and mass tourism. If you love nature, animals and a unique hotel experiences, you will love Great Huts! We stayed at Sea Grape, which is the most secluded hut on the property and the Fig Tree which has stunning beach and surf views. Great Huts is centerally located to do day trips to Port Antonio, Reach Falls, Sumerset Falls, Grand River Rafting (bamboo rafting trips) and hikes in the Blue Mountains. Besides that, it is directly located on Boston Bay with a nice little beach and right next to the Blue Lagoon and other wonderful beaches (e.g. Frenchman Cove). The staff is happy to help you get the most out of your Jamaica experience. They helped us plan part of our trips even before we got there per email (e.g. longer hike in the Blue Mountains). However, they will help you organize tours once you get there as well, will make phone calls for you and even give you a cell phone on day trips - free of charge.
The hotel has a nice little restaurant with a small but very delicious selection of lunch and dinner dishes. Don't miss to have some special coctails from bartender Andre - he is very passionate about his work and happy to find just the right drink for you. Try his own creation the "Island Splash" ... it will make a wonderful evening perfect!
Thanks for a perfect vacation!!!
