My wife and I had been to Port Antonio several times on vacation and wanted to have our wedding there. The Port Antonio area also offers so much in the way of short day trips so our guests (23) would have plenty of options from lying on the beach to trekking the rain forest.
Our only problem with staying at the Trident was lack of air conditioning in the castle part of the property. Also, by staying in the castle, food service was going to be a problem. I was told that we could either take our dinner at the hotel or the food would be prepared at the hotel and brought up to the castle at extra expense. A light continental breakfast at the castle would be no problem but a multi-course dinner might prove otherwise.
The cost for renting the Trident Castle for our wedding before variables such as food, alcohol, staff, transportation, etc was approximately $36,000. This price basically was to rent the rooms and have the property available for the wedding. Public areas such as the onsite bar would remain open to the public.
We decided to have the wedding at Dragon Bay instead. So, what started as a climate control issue (No A/C) led to our party only visiting and touring the castle for pictures reminiscent of Portland and the Port Antonio area.
A great time was had by all and my mother summed up the experience after returning to the states, "I have never been to a better wedding or on a better vacation." To me, that is the perfect wedding.

I just came home from a wonderful week at the Trident Hotel in Port Antonio Jamaica. The hotel was closed for a few months last year after hurricane Ivan and for complete renovation.
Trident is the most beautiful place I have ever visited. Our Villa had a lovely terrace overlooking the ocean - request Villa 7 - a must.
We had a great time this Christmas and we will be back.

“Stayed in the Castle...was AMAZING!!!”

I am a friend of the owner, Earl Levy, and when I went down to stay with him for about the 10th time I stayed in the Castle instead.

I noticed that no-one had commented on this part of the hotel, so I thought I would let eveyone know that for weddings or a very luxurious stay, GO HERE!!!

It is huge and can accomidate plenty. The staff are so sweet and cater to your every need, no matter what!!! You actually feel like Royalty, not just because you're staying in a Castle.

The hotel and castle are definatly a place for couples, as Port Antonio and the hotel/castle are not booming with noise and people. It is very peaceful and relaxing. You don't have loud speakers in your ear while you lay on the beach/pool like in big resorts in Negril ect. Just a couple of staff members busying themselves around the hotel.

I saw someone say that the food here was bad? WRONG, we never left the hotel for meals other than one night we spent at the Blue Lagoon. The food is amazing, it's not a big place, so the staff take extra care in the making and presentation of the meals. None of this "buffet" thing where there are flys all over your food before you even get to it. It's cooked in a "no-problem" atmosphere taking time and care.

Overall, this place is one where you come back to over and over again, for it just grows on you, I now have cravings for it. If you are looking for pure relaxation, come to this hotel or castle and get it!!!

I also have ALOT of photos from our stay(s), if you would like to see them or ask me anything at all, e-mail me.

We were staying at the Jamaica Palace, and fancied a night out...we chose the restaurant at the Trident. BIG MISTAKE---for the first course we ordered the Greek Salad---one of the Jerk Chicken stands on the beach could have probably done it better...I don't consider shreaded iceburg lettuce, 2 olives, and a crumbling of feta a Greek Salad...for the main course we had the tenderloin of beef---it was luke warm and tough; but in all fairness to the staff a power cut occured 10 minutes after our arrival. The staff did their job well despite the challenge of no electricity. The hotel did not have a generator, whereas the Jamaica Palace does. Another couple staying at the Jamaica Palace eat at Mockingbird Hill and had nothing but praise for their meal and hosts---guest we just chose the wrong place this time. It's a shame as the setting of the Trident is pretty and a nice place to watch the sunset and wave crash into the coastal rocks.

if you want to get away from the hassles of tourist jamaica , then port antonio and the trident are for you. yes the hotel needs a sprucing up but all the bungalows on the ocean are still beautiful. there is a very special atmosphere about this place that has made us return guests. rent a car and go to frenchmans cove by day, hang out in port antonio at night. go to "survival beach" for some great rasta cuisine (oliver the owner is a great guy and fun to hang with) or mocking bird hill for something a little fancier.i can't remember her name, but there is an american massage therapist who will come to your room and is amazing (we have used her services many times ) great area , no hassle from the locals (no one constantly bothering you to buy ganga) and a very special hotel thats gloriously tatty around the edges but its heart is in the right place.
