“noel cowards jamaica”

if you want to get away from the hassles of tourist jamaica , then port antonio and the trident are for you. yes the hotel needs a sprucing up but all the bungalows on the ocean are still beautiful. there is a very special atmosphere about this place that has made us return guests. rent a car and go to frenchmans cove by day, hang out in port antonio at night. go to "survival beach" for some great rasta cuisine (oliver the owner is a great guy and fun to hang with) or mocking bird hill for something a little fancier.i can't remember her name, but there is an american massage therapist who will come to your room and is amazing (we have used her services many times ) great area , no hassle from the locals (no one constantly bothering you to buy ganga) and a very special hotel thats gloriously tatty around the edges but its heart is in the right place.

I visited the Trident Hotel from February 16-20, 2004. The furnishings are a little run down, but the view, grounds, service and meals more than make up for the well used furniture. The pool setting is so beautiful, right by the sea. The beach is secluded. I loved the old arch entrance to the beach area. Our villa was light and airy with good air conditioning. The veranda was our favorite spot with a spectacular view of the sea. The peacocks were fun to watch and beautiful. The meals were served on the terrace. The food was great with a lot of local fruits and vegies. The service at all meals was outstanding. The experience was wonderful and I hope I can return someday.

Certainly the stay at the Trident was very interesting. The place had certainly seen better days, but on the whole our 5 days were quite enjoyable in June 2003. The rooms were quite spacious and it was wonderful to see the peacocks wonder up to the verandah.

Food was relatively expensive and given the short taxi ride to Port Antonio, we prefered to eat outside the hotel. There is a small cove, which was great for the kids and a swimming pool.

There's no access to a television or even a kettle in the room. The service was efficient without being too spectacular.

Portland provided us with a glimse of the real non commercialised Jamaica. The Trident is a good place to chill out, but also to access some good beaches, Blue Lagoon, Boston, Port Antonio, Long Bay etc.

The Trident is unique in that it is as though it is in a time warp. The hotel kind of fits in with the laid back non-touristy character of Portonio. I'm sure there'll be many more modern hotel than the Trident, but few will be able to match its charm and location.

I'll certainly, be going back to Trident.

Wonderful ambiance, villa was very clean and spacious with view of the ocean from veranda, bay window of bedroom. Attention to detail in the building is amazing. Restaurant had very good food, intimate bar, luxurious sitting room. Stayed 2 nights on 9th and 10th January, wished for a month. There was not a hint of anything but freshness and good taste in everything. The owner is an excellent conversationalist and has a history of accomplishment, taste and design that deserves a book.

It was terrible , the room smelt like it had not been opened in one year, there were stains on all the furniture and three cockroaches came inside the villa in one night ....it is a beautiful property that has been left to become run down....
