Certainly the stay at the Trident was very interesting. The place had certainly seen better days, but on the whole our 5 days were quite enjoyable in June 2003. The rooms were quite spacious and it was wonderful to see the peacocks wonder up to the verandah.

Food was relatively expensive and given the short taxi ride to Port Antonio, we prefered to eat outside the hotel. There is a small cove, which was great for the kids and a swimming pool.

There's no access to a television or even a kettle in the room. The service was efficient without being too spectacular.

Portland provided us with a glimse of the real non commercialised Jamaica. The Trident is a good place to chill out, but also to access some good beaches, Blue Lagoon, Boston, Port Antonio, Long Bay etc.

The Trident is unique in that it is as though it is in a time warp. The hotel kind of fits in with the laid back non-touristy character of Portonio. I'm sure there'll be many more modern hotel than the Trident, but few will be able to match its charm and location.

I'll certainly, be going back to Trident.

Wonderful ambiance, villa was very clean and spacious with view of the ocean from veranda, bay window of bedroom. Attention to detail in the building is amazing. Restaurant had very good food, intimate bar, luxurious sitting room. Stayed 2 nights on 9th and 10th January, wished for a month. There was not a hint of anything but freshness and good taste in everything. The owner is an excellent conversationalist and has a history of accomplishment, taste and design that deserves a book.

It was terrible , the room smelt like it had not been opened in one year, there were stains on all the furniture and three cockroaches came inside the villa in one night ....it is a beautiful property that has been left to become run down....

Although the hotel looked lovely the smell of mildew was so overwelming it literally took your breath away! At the prices they charge you certainly would expect a more pleasant experience than we had the one miserable night we spent there.

“Amazing Place”

We stayed here quite awhile ago in 1998 for part of our three week Jamaican honeymoon, but when I saw that there were no reviews, I had to chime in.

The villas are amazing - so incredibly beautiful. The ocean is right outside your patio crashing onto huge rocks. Glass doors open onto the the patio so you can listen to the waves. There are no tv's so it's definitely relaxing (bring some good books!) The villas are very spacious, like having your own little house in Jamaica. A huge living room/parlor with mini-bar, a large couch, chairs, a huge bedroom with bay window and french doors and a large bathroom.

Room service breakfast each morning was delicious and different.

Port Antonio is for us the "real" Jamaica. We walked from the hotel into the town and we were the only tourists in sight. Children were in shock upon seeing us! Some of our greatest memories are from Port Antonio.

Trident Castle is incredible. We only saw it from a distance, with the two German Shepherds guarding the gate we figured we had best not get too close, but it is definitely impressive.

We had wonderful time here and would definitely recommend it!
