“What a gorgeous beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

We used the beach for a couple of hours on a day trip to Port Antonio out of Ocho Rios. And what a stunning beach it is!

The beach is fairly small but spectacularly scenic, hemmed in between rocky shores. A lazy clean river with lots of fish empties at the beach in the sea, and you can actually choose to swim/be in the river part with calm water to which the beach extends, or in the sea water which is a bit turbulent with fairly high waves. Our small children preferred the calm river water where they could also observe the fishes, and where there was also plenty of shallow water to frolic around in.

The beach has a restaurant with service on the beach, and toilets, showers and changing facilities.

Entrance fee is expensive, $8 US for adults (half for children 4-12), but if you have a couple of hours to spend it's worth it.

“Picturesque”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Visiting San San Beach with family and friends was one of the best parts of my trip to Jamaica. Hopping onto a boat for relaxing sail to Frenchman's Cove brought our group a spectacular treat. Million dollar homes and seaside villas provided the perfect and unusual backdrop. While the kids and youthful adults climbed the lush hillside, others frolicked with the gentle waves lapping at the boatside. I can hardly wait to go back!

“Gorgeous and fantastic place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We visited Frenchman's cove several times in July 2013. It's a gorgeous area in Portland, just outside the city of Port Antonio. Because it's in a rain forest region, the hillsides are very lush with trees covered with a variety of orchids, ferns and pothos vines. The beach is triangular shaped since it's a little bay bordered on either side by rocky shoreline. Because the mouth of the bay is narrow, the surf pounds its way onto the beach. A crystal-clear, lazy river gently runs down the mountain into the sea on the left side of the beach and many people prefer to swim and play in it rather than brave the waves. It's also a great place for kids to play since it's relatively shallow. On the beach there are a couple small areas marked by wooden stakes where turtles have laid eggs and you are asked to be careful when you walk.

There is a restaurant on the beach where you can order burgers, fries and cold drinks. Better yet, they have waiters dressed in black pants and white shirts with whom you can place your order, and they will bring the food onto the beach to you. The restaurant has chairs and side tables on the beach so you can comfortably eat, and the waiters will clear away the trash when you're done.

There's a sign out front that states they're closed on Tuesdays, but we went there on Tuesday and everything was open. Not sure what the purpose of the sign is. Apparently it costs $5 to enter the beach because it's private property. However, we stayed at the hotel across the street (Hotel San, San Tropez) and they have an arrangement with the owners so we got a pass each day to go to the beach for free. Overall this is a beautiful little beach in a rain forest setting with a lazy little river flowing through it. Sheer paradise.

“Beautiful beach! Frenchman's Cove.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

This is an absolutely beautiful beach! The sand and water is perfect. The river runs into the beach here. Therefor, you can enjoy not only a perfect Jamaican beach but also a refreshing and beautiful river swim. Lots of fun little tropical fish to see in the river. Great facilities with restaurant, bathroom and beach chairs. Great place to spend a day or so!
