Sea Grape Villas is one of the coolest properties I've ever stayed at when traveling abroad. Completely private, amazing access to the cliffs and water below, and beautiful sunsets every night.
Definitely recommend e-mailing the owners to make sure the property is the right fit for you. If you prefer the resort experience, I'd stay at one. If you prefer creating your own vacation, you can't find a better place.
The on-site staff (Juicy, Bentley, and Christine) are terrific. Juicy brings fresh coffee and toast to your villa each morning. You can also order dinner from him each night, for a reasonable price, and enjoy authentic Jamaican fare as good as any restaurant we ate at during our trip.
Our villa was clean, quiet, and private. We enjoyed entire days on the property and being able to walk to nearby attractions (walking the main road is the most nerve-racking part of Jamaica, but the local shops, food joints, and people were great). Only a $10 taxi ride from the beach. Owners have great recommendations on places to visit.
The property is well-maintained with a lot of vegetation, so bring bug spray in case it rains. Worth dealing with the mosquitos for the chance to see some other real cool wildlife. Mosquitos weren't worse than anywhere in the southeast U.S. for comparison.
Snorkeling on the property is fun, as was taking a ride with Vincent (another property manager recommendation) out to the reef about 30 minutes away. For about $25 a person, he'll give you a personally guided tour that goes about a mile along the reef or he'll let you do your own thing.
If it's your thing, you can't stay any where better.
