“Relaxing stay on a beautiful property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Let me start by saying that if you're looking for a "Resort" type experience Seagrape isn't for you. If you want to relax on an amazing property and soak in the Jamaican vibe then you've found the right place.

A few notes:

The staff - Juicy, Bentley & Christine are wonderful. We were well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed their company. Donovan was great too.

Juicy's cooking - The food we were provided was excellent. Lots of variety served family style freshly made. We cancelled dinner reservations at a hotel one night as we preferred Juicy's homestyle meals.

Big Grape villa - The villa was spotless upon our arrival. It's better than the pictures. Open, airy and tastefully decorated. The upper deck and the lower eating area were used everyday. I don't think we sat on the inside furniture once. We spent countless hours on the lower patio/hammock listening to music and enjoying a drink.

"Guard Dogs" - Blackie and Lucky are great. They were entertaining and were great company as we have two dogs at home.

Other guests - I don't know if we were lucky or if Seagrape attracts the type of people we met but I suspect the latter. We couldn't have met nicer people to share some time with. Saying that, if you want complete privacy the option is yours.

Setting and Grounds - Stunning, colourful, lush, well maintained and private. The view at the seafront was breathtaking. Words can't really describe. See for yourself.

We explored Negril and hit the beach for a few hours when the sea was too rough on the cliffs but heading "home" each night though was the best. Through the blue gate, walking down the path to Big Grape or to the seaside chairs for a sunset. Fantastic.

I can see why so many people return to Seagrape.

Room Tip: We stayed at Big Grape but we saw both of the other villas, Seagrape & Wildgrape. Each of the th...

Welcome to your home away from home. Seagrape is a genuine find and a true escape. We aren't fond of the beach area in Negril because we feel hustled and aren't into the bar scene. The cliffs on the west end and seagrape are truly a peaceful escape. This was our 2nd trip to Seagrape (3rd to Negril) this year and before leaving we booked another week for October. The staff are exceptional. Juicy is a wonderful host and an even better chef.

If you are looking for a resort experience this is not your place. If you are looking for a low key, home away from home where you can relax, enjoy authentic Jamaican food, and be away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy beach, then Seagrape is what you are looking for. We generally eat at local restaurants, buy drinks and rum at the market across the street and have Juicy prepare breakfast and dinner occasionally. We've stayed at Big Grape and SeaGrape villas and really like Seagrape. It's just large enough for the 2 of us and we love how close it is to the ocean. The new remodeled master suite at SeaGrape is very nice and the bathroom is nicer than many bed and breakfast bathrooms in the US.

We highly recommend staying at SeaGrape. It's a wonderful getaway in already low key and relaxed Negril.

Left on 09/16/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Sometimes pictures can be deceiving, but in this case what you see is just a glimpse of what you get. The view is breath taking outside and in. Unlike the decor in some resorts that is very generic, the decor in Seagrape is natural and suitable with an island feel. The grounds are beautiful with colorful flowers and foliage. It is cared for lovingly, as it is family owned and operated. Me and my 4 children(ages 18+) were made to feel very much at home. It is clean and comfortable, and the staff is very attentive to any needs you may have. The chief (Juicy)*** made the best meals we had during our stay, our favorite was the fish.Their motto is relax and enjoy and we certainly did!!

We loved our stay at Sea Grape - specifically the Wild Grape villa. The staff - Juicy, Bentley, and Christine - all felt like family to us and made us feel so welcome. Marc was always accessible via email ahead of time and during the trip and offered so much help throughout the entire time. The villa is beautiful, artistic, and designed with great taste. We will definitely return - no question.

I stayed here last summer with friends and a wonderfully relaxed time in Big Grape. I loved that the house is surrounded by the garden yet only steps from the water. My favorite part was waking up and walking out onto the patio sitting down at the table and minutes later Juicy magically appears with a fresh pot of fabulous coffee and fresh fruit, even mangos grown on the property. We also tried his johnny cakes which were awesome as were the dinners he prepared for us. We thought we would miss being on the beach but not one bit - the cliffs was beautiful and so easy to get in and out of the water. We went to the beach a couple times but actually preferred swimming in the cliffs. Loved just relaxing under the umbrella near the water watching the sunset and drinking Juicy's rum punch. What a life! And it was such a treat to have Christine come in every day and clean up--even doing our dishes and laundry. The flowers, the food, the ocean - this place is paradise. Thank you Sea Grape for a wonderful time - and thanks to Bentley too!

May be it was the time of the year we stayed there! We paid premium (about $420/nt) to stay in Wild grape over the holidays. First the good: Amazing location. Wonderful view. Friendly staff. Owner was very helpful throughout the planning stage and timely answered all the questions. Gave us great directions to find the place, arriving late night. Bentley was there to greet us. We woke up to a wonderful view in the morning. Read so much about Juicy's cooking that we ordered breakfast for the first morning. I wish I took a picture of what was delivered. 2 egg scramble with bacon per person was delivered in one plate for all four of us. We even questioned, really, he used 8 eggs?? It looked half. And the 'fabulous blue mountain coffee' was very diluted dark matter.. We finally got to taste the real coffee when we went to a local coffee shop. That was the only time we ate in house. The first impressions are so important. Juicy was good with making sure checking in to see if we want anything. We had a car, so we were pretty independent, purchasing our own groceries. Most of the time when we left the property in our car, there was really no one at the door to open it for us. We had to open and close ourselves. Which is not a big deal, accept, it is so easy to enter the property through the main road, unless there is a guard there all the time. So we made sure we locked our valuables each time we left. We were sooo frustrated with the lack of water pressure. When we questioned it, we were told that west end road properties have had this problem, gets worse by the year. It is impossible to take a shower in house. We removed the shower head to help with the flow to no avail. This was a problem throughout our stay. When we were dining at Catcha Falling Star and Rock House, their water pressure was just fine in the restrooms. So they figured out a way to solve the problem (water tank may be??), if there is a problem in general. The furniture is tired. Ceiling fan in the master bedroom makes noise, and the air conditioner in the second bedroom barely cools! In the 7 nights we stayed there, our towels and bed sheets were changed only once, and that's after we pulled the sheets off..OMG! the mattress looked gross in one of the twin beds. There was no mattress cover either.. Just fitted sheet over this gross spongy material. Other furniture in the living room looked nice, but we were using outdoor seating most of the time. Refrigerator needs replacement.. It has a broken drawer, and looks to be at least 20 yrs old! We kept reminding ourselves that location makes up for the short comings, until we went to Catch Falling Star for lunch. Beautiful grounds, accommodations, run more professionally.. and cheaper rates than what we paid! I went back and forth whether to give this review a 2 or a 3 star.. At the end, I choice 3 because of nice owner/staff and location location location!! If you get a good deal, I say stay here.. But not at the levels we paid.

Marc P, Owner at Sea Grape Villas, responded to this review, January 27, 2013
I am so sorry Sea Grape did not meet all of this guest’s expectations. We are always disappointed when this happens, but thankful that most of our guests truly enjoy their stays. This guest compiled quite a list of issues with the property, so I will do my best to respond to the most pertinent ones.

To begin with, it seems that perhaps Sea Grape might not have been the right fit these guests and that they would have preferred to stay at Catcha Falling Star, a larger resort down the road from us. Catcha offers a very different experience from Sea Grape, with many rooms and cottages and a lively bar/restaurant scene. It does not, however, offer the privacy and tranquility of Sea Grape, which sets us apart from other properties in Negril—and which most of our guests highly value.

With regard to water pressure, I regret that this was a legitimate complaint at the time this guest stayed at Sea Grape. Jamaica is currently experiencing drought conditions, causing the water company not to deliver regular water service to Negril and resulting in periods of low pressure in December 2012. To remedy this unforeseen problem, we installed a second reserve water tank and a new water pump in January 2013 that has improved water pressure in all three villas.

Two things we have never had complaints about before are Juicy’s coffee and portion size. At Sea Grape, we serve Jamaican High Mountain Coffee (we never represent that it is specifically Blue Mountain), which Juicy brings guests every morning on their outdoor veranda. Most guests find his coffee delicious! Moreover, Juicy’s meals consistently get rave reviews and his portions are generous such that guests usually have leftovers. Therefore, I am surprised by this guest’s dissatisfaction with the preparation and portioning of the eggs.

Finally, I must take issue with this guest’s characterization of Wild Grape villa’s décor as tired or dirty. Just days before this guest arrived, I was in Wild Grape with a professional photographer who was taking pictures for our upcoming website redesign. At that time, we spent significant time examining, cleaning, and posing Wild Grape’s furnishings. Both in my opinion, and as the new photos will reflect, this guest’s comments are simply not a fair characterization of Wild Grape’s décor and current condition. I hope they will not deter future guests from experiencing our wonderful property!

Big thanks to Lynn and Marc. My wife and I with five friends were completely satisfied with Sea Grape! Juicey, Bentley and Christine go out of thier way to make sure your stay is a memorable one and once you go, I guarentee you will want to keep going back to the Grape! Your private cove to swim, our villa with spectacular views of sunsets, and Juicey cooking some of the best meals we've had there! Walking distance to some great restaurants and entertainment. 7 mile beach is only a ten minute drive and when you feel like venturing out Juicey is there to assist. I can't say enough beautiful things about Sea Grape. The villas' are fantastic, the grounds are beautiful, not to mention the convient market across the street for grocieries. This is our second trip to the Grape and we are already making plans for next year. Again our thanks and respect to Lynn, Marc, Juicey, Bentley, Christine, and not to forget our pals Blackie and Lucky, miss ya all!!!!!! Much love and respect from Karen and Vince
