“Very private and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2010

We stayed in the Roundhouse for the first week of August. The service was great!! We were always greeted with a smile and were pretty much left to ourselves, which was nice we were on our honeymoon.. ;) The room was great, it was cleaned everyday with clean towlels and linens. The location was good. It was a little to far to walk some places but the places that were walking distance were enough. I'd have to say the best part about Citronella would be the privacy. There were only a couple times during our stay that we even ran into other guests. The only thing that would have made me more comfortable would have been some kind of shark nets or something in the swimming area. Even though it is swim at your own risk, and the water is as clear as can be, some people (ok people like me), may feel more at ease to swim for longer times.. :) Maybe plans for a restaurant in the future too. All in all I'd have to say Citronella was everything we were looking for. Quiet, Private, Affordable, and in my opinion Rick's isn't the only great place to catch the sunset.. The view from the Roundhouse never let us down.. Beautiful location, friendly staff, well maintained grounds. Citronella is a diamond in the roungh!!

Citronella was by far the most the most amazing Jamaican experience I could have asked for. The views and atmosphere were breath taking and we were in close proximity to many restaurants and attractions such as Rick's Cafe and within miles of Seven Mile Beach. We really enjoyed our own private water access and loved the quaint cottage that we stayed in. Our favorite part of the stay at Citronella was being able to jump in the water with our snorkel gear and enjoy the underwater scenery. The people there were extremely helpful and we had all of the things we wanted right there on the resort. If you want to get away and truly relax in the Caribbean in a unique and private atmosphere, Citronella is the place to stay. I plan on returning soon!

This was our first trip to Jamaica, and we had to make it a bit cost effective for us. After lots of research, and reading reviews on the trusty trip advisor, we settled on Citronella traditional cottage, and booked the Roundhouse and contacted Alfred's car service for our roundtrip land transportation to and from Montego Bay.

The ride out to Negril was great, we got to see quite a bit of this part of Jamaica and learned what High tone and Ex Pat meant. Terms that is thrown around quite a bit. It was just a 45 minute ride to Negril, and once we were away from 7 mile beach and on the cliffs, you really end up feeling the magic of this quiet fishing town. We arrived early, but found everything ready for us.

The landscape was gorgeous, and our room was rustic and cozy. We knew coming in that there would be no television (and no air conditioning - which you don't feel the heat inside of the cottage), but they do provide you with a radio (and fans), and there are some great reggae stations in Jamaica. The bed was comfortable, and since I'm a pro with nets, I knew to set it up in the early evening as to avoid enclosing mosquitoes in with you. Each night we left the shutters opened and we're lulled to sleep by the breeze and sound of the waves against the rocks.

Most of our days were spent lounging about catching sun and jumping into the ocean (this is an experience that has to be had, and cannot be explained). At about 11AM the fruit lady comes down the road, and you can purchase fresh fruit to munch on.

Citronella doesn't have a restaurant, but there are plenty of them close by. We did take a taxi one day down to 7 mile beach, and with the help of our driver (suggested by the staff at Citronella), we were able to hang out at Irie restaurant & beach (great staff, and nice little place). We also ate at a few places: LTD, Xtabi, Rockhouse, Rick's cafe and Juicy Beef. Juicy Beef had a huge arrange of mouth watering beef patties and the Lobster (grilled on the fire) at Xtabi was out of this world. We did Rick's cafe because it was down the road, but found it to not be as authentic as I would have liked, but you can watch some locals do crazy dives off the cliffs.

The staffs on the property is very discreet, and are helpful in getting you what you need or making suggestions as to where to go. If you have the opportunity, check out Sexy Rexy, the Rasta who owns a little outdoor bar like venue across the road.

All in all, it was a peaceful, no frills place, but you'll make memories that will last a lifetime.

We are currently planning our 2011 trip to Negril, as it has become a favored destination for relaxation and escape.

Double Shucks! Twice in a row we lost our 5 star run. We’re working hard to make sure we correct any problems. It looks like overall though this reviewer had a great time and had many great things to say about us. The reviewer dropped us just a little in the rooms, cleanliness, and service categories. To address this we want to ensure our guest understand that Citronella is a unique one of a kind place and the cottages are very unique and rustic so people that enjoy this kind of setting tend to give us 5 stars in these areas while Citro is not always the right fit for someone wanting a traditional hotel room with TV, AC, and all the “normal” things in life. Part of the Citronella values is to NOT have those things and to enjoy what the surroundings have to offer.

Stayed in the Round House of the Citronella. I recommend staying in this one. We had private access to the water with a shower and cave. Was really cool. Very relaxing. Only bad thing was no AC but there was plenty of fans. Also the staff was friendly but it was hard to find them because they were never in the office. Stay here for a romantic getaway. If you need a cab or driver anywhere use this guy Steve he's from the area, great guy, his number is 876 372 8354.

Shucks we had a very long run of 5 star reviews and we lost a couple of stars on this review. That always makes us want to see what we can do better :-)

It is an extremely unique and beautiful property that is secluded and private. It’s situated on a set of cliffs ranging 30 to 50 feet high overlooking the Caribbean. There are 5 cottages to choose from and although this reviewer prefers the Round House, the other cottages are all great and each has it’s on unique characteristics. All are situated with perfect views of the Caribbean and only a few steps away from private swimming coves beneath the cliffs. My personal favorite is the Cave House because I like a lot of space and for larger groups the Cove House is much better. Citronella does not have air conditioning but most times of the year the breeze and fans are plenty sufficient to stay comfortable and even during the hottest parts of the year, the nights cool down and during the mid day you’re only a step away from crystal clear cooling Caribbean swimming. Citronella does not have TV or telephones. However, you can play board games and lounge around in our Great House. Also to clarify, Citronella does have a breakfast café during the winter season which is considered the high season. Citronella is well kept and a very clean property and the cottages have a Rustic feel. The staff will keep your cottage impeccably clean and if there’s ever anything extra you need don’t hesitate to ask us. Concerning the comment that the staff is never in the office, we are looking into this concern.

Walking through the gates of Citronella was like stepping into a tropical paradise. My week long stay was extremely relaxing and there were memorable adventures daily. Privacy at the pristine Cove House was unbelievable. The views were indescribable and the interior décor was perfect with local Jamaican style. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and provided whatever was needed. Each glorious sunrise and spectacular sunset made every day unforgettable. Nightly star gazing after dinner was an experience of heaven on earth. I look forward Walking to my next fantasy vacation at Citronella and one that everyone should experience!!

This was my favorite vacation yet!! We had so much fun. The views were to die for!! My husband and I would love to return someday soon. We fell in love with Jamaica 100%. Everyone that worked at Citronella took care of us and were very nice. It is completely my definition of paradise. I can't wait to return.

Citronella is the most amazing place I've ever been! This was my second trip to Jamaica, and also to Citronella. I would never imagine staying anywhere else! Heaven on Earth! The first time I came to Citronella, I came with a group of friends, and we had an amazing time. This visit was to celebrate our one year anniversary, and my husband and I had an wonderful time. It was so beautiful and romantic. It the perfect place to go whatever your purpose is. For leisure, romance, or a group trip! You cannot beat the service ( Trevor, Jennifer and Millie are amazing!) They will help you will any thing you need! You definitely feel "taken care of" during your stay at Citronella! Very safe, peaceful, and calming. It is close enough to town, yet far enough away to really unwind and feel totally relaxed. The views are only something you would dream of. It is by far the best location in Negril! The sunsets on the point are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Also Ricks Cafe is located just 2 doors down from Citronella, and is a popular spot at sunset with cliff divers and live bands! Could not ask for a better location! The houses are so beautiful and have amazing views of the water! I could go on and on about how amazing this place is.. you just have to see it to believe it! Go there, you will NOT be disappointed!
