Perhaps not everyone would agree, but my wife and I stayed at both Citronella and the Rockhouse last week and wepreferred Citronella.
The laid back charm of Citronella really appealed to us. Sure there are multiple in-house restaurants, a pool, a spa, etc. at Rockhouse, but if you are looking for a real traveling experience that doesn't just mimic countless other resort hotels, then you should defintley consider Citronella.
Unlike much of the choppy rough waters found at other locations along the nearby coastline, the protected cove is really here is spectacular for swimming and snorkeling in comfort. In many ways the coral also seems to be in better shape than what we found at the Rockhouse.
As others have mentioned, the experience of sleeping with open louvered windows, no screening, and no bugs with the waves crashing is really pleasant and unique. We both got so many mosquito bites at Rockhouse it drove us nuts and always had to us the netting with our bed. No idea why this is not the case at Citronella but it is a big plus. Maybe it;s the citronella plants?
The architecture of each house is a variation on what I must imagine are traditional building styles for the region. Each house is well separated from each other so there is plenty of privacy and great unobstructed views no matter which house you stay in.
Staff is great and will help you as needed and leave you to your vacation otherwise. LTU is right next door for sunsets and dinner. Ricks is worth skipping IMHO even though it's a short walk and visible from the A-House where we stayed.
Big hearty thumbs up for this establishment. We are already planning to head back next year.
