“New Year's at Ansell's”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Arrived New Year's Eve and was greeted by Ansell himself. We stayed for a total of 6 nights. Originally our reservation was for 5 nights, but decided to stay for an extra night. Our room was very basic, but the bathroom, sheets, and small kitchen were clean. The hot water was sporadic, but it really wasn't an issue for us since it was warm anyways. Our kitchen consisted of few plates, 1 coffee mug, few utensils, some plastic cups, 1 old saute pan, 1 tin saucepan, and propane hot plate with 2 burners. The local grocery store was about a 15 minute walk away and 2 convenient stores within a short 5 minute walk. The beach was a few steps away from our room.
The staff was friendly, the vibe in general was laid back and relaxing. Beverly and Karen were very helpful and informative with local things to do and see. The only major complaint was the constant harrassment of vendors ranging from selling shrimp/bracelets/drugs/juices/tours/water sports/sex/sandles, even though there is a private beach sign posted on the property, this clearly is ignored. No matter where you are staying on the Seven Mile Beach you will be approached by locals for something. The noise level of the hotel next door was very loud at night, then again it was NYE. However, it was several nights of a concert and then karoke night. If you can sleep through this, then it's not a big deal but as I mentioned before it was over a holiday weekend. My overall experience was good and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a kitchen if you'd like to cook.

I stayed at Ansell's ten years go and just returned last March with my boyfriend. They actually remembered me which was very sweet and made me feel even more welcome! Our room had a kitchen , full size fridge, air conditioner and a T.V. which was great and allowed us to save money by eating in. The whole staff was very friendly, even supplying me with fresh aloe when I got a sunburn. Having Mr. Biggs on guard at night was very comforting and you can't beat the location-right on the beach, close enough to bars and restaurants but far enough away to enjoy a peaceful sleep. We didn't have hot water but there was an outdoor shower so we could rinse between swims which kind of made up for that. Definitely a great value!

We stayed there in March 2013 for 5 nights. Small Cottages but you don`t need more, because you only sleep in that. The beach is 5 metres away :-) It´s on the end of Seven Mile beach and therefore not so busy.
Mr. Ansell and his team are very friendly and helpful. Please keep this place.
David and Mr. Biggs are very nice and friendly people and are saving for a safe place.
Thanks for all!!

Greetz from Germany and maybe till next year :-)

Came back from Jamaica only yesterday and this was our final accommodation. We spent there 4 nights. Great location. Downtown in walking distance and so are all hot spots on the beach. Great bar right next to it which makes excellent cocktails during happy hours :) We didn't have really hot water and the cold one was coming out in a very weak stream but after 2 weeks in Jamaica we got used to it and this was not an issue for us :)

Room Tip: Definitely go for the first one on the beach! Number 1 and 2.

My husband and i stayed here two week ago.I have to say we enjoyed the stay there,it was very peaceful. The only complain i have is that they turn off the water late night.Water pressure is very low.DO NOT GO TO SWEET SPOT .They have become sour spot, food is'nt tasty as it use to be and the females in there charge you what ever they feel like ROBBING you for that night. Litterally.I will never go back to sweet spot, they are robbers.

Just got home, & wishing I was still there...
Always remember, your holiday is what you make it..
Our Arrival started off not to great, we did not get picked up by the driver we had made arrangements with prior to arrival so needless to say, we didn't get out to the Cottages until quite late...

The Cottage was clean, bed was very comfortable ( which is important for myself, as I have a real bad back, so this was a welcome beginning for me)...Pillows are very firm, so if you have a bad back / neck I would suggest you bring your own pillow from home ( I did)...

The resort next door ( to the left facing the beach) was SO LOUD.. until 4 am we could not sleep.... even after putting ear plugs in, the vibration from the bass kept us up...thank goodness it was just the one night thing ( boxing day party).... for the rest of the week , it was tolerable & shut down at a decent hour....I would not recommend eating there , they cater to there guest only & was very pricey & to top it off I was brutally sick for the rest of the day..... the resort on the right side facing the beach.... Very decent priced, good food , service a little slow, but you have to remember, you are in Jamaica!!...Where they do everything slow. other then Drive!!..

Back to the Cottages.........

We had stove issues . . but Mr Ansell & Miss Beverly bought us a new stove the next day, they are very accommodating, with what ever you need to make your stay an enjoyable one.

It came equipped with Kitchen ware, but very minimal...and if there was something you needed, all you had to do was ask!

There is no hot water in the Kitchen, just cold.. but the bathroom has hot/cold running water.

We stayed in # 6.... Awesome view of the beach....was great to sit on the veranda in the morning and have your coffee....the beach is literally 40 steps away. it was great! ........

There was a security guard on, threw the night...

We had no problems & nothing was stolen....( I just wouldn't leave anything on your veranda at night)

You are abut 1/4 mile out of town.... so it was very walkable....

Cottages # 5-6 are the only units that have air conditioning....( we also had a TV, not all cottages do)

For new years Eve Mr. ANsell & Miss Beverly made everyone that was staying there .. an authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken dinner that her brother MArio made..... I have to say.. it was the juiciest, best tasting jerk chicken I have ever had on the island....

So all in all...... If you are looking to be pampered and have the 4-5 star experience..... this is not the place for you ....

If you are looking for a more down to the locals , budget conscience holiday, where you are clean and safe... this place is great...

I would defiantly go back.. but not for just a week..... shopping and going back & forth into town( for water, ect).. was time consuming ...

I formed a special bond with Miss Beverly ( she come across as ruff and tough, but when you get to know the real her she is a sweetheart..... she will forever be my friend... she is my Little Jamaican Sister , from another Mister!!

I will post more pictures later, & if you have any question feel free to ask...

Peace out

CryzBC
