We returned from our second stay Mar 31st...Where we spent a week here after staying 3 days on the Negril west end...and were so happy to arrive. The front desk is very helpful and had our beachside cottage we had booked, ready to go in no time in spite of our early arrival. The staff here is what makes this place so special. Alexander Pike the manager is very accomodating and welcome to all his guests and recognizes his staff as the "stars" they all are. The bartenders here have a unique talent to be able to satisfy the masses by making the most of what they have at the bar station, truly a talent. Special recognition to Vinton and Ghavri.
The watersports guys are wonderful at helping the guests who want to go sailing, snorkeling, kayaking and now...even stand up paddleboards are available. Sean stands out as a superstar here who seems to truly enjoy his work, and interacts with the guests in such a manner that he could teach the hospitality industry a thing or two.
The kitchen and dining room folks are great. Table service is far superior to what we experienced last year, and the food is exceptional. If you like to come to Jamaica and taste the local fare then GP is the place, with island delicacies at every meal (our last trip to Couples Negril we couldn't get Ackee&Saltfish the whole 9 days we stayed).I wouldn't be doing justice to those reading if I didn't have a few critiques that I noticed could be addressed, and to be fair I DO understand that cost is a factor that could affect either the property's margins or rates.
Our first trip the bar had a soda fountain that was self service available for the guests to use as they please. This stay it was not...because the fountain "guns" were yet to be installed for the bar staff, and also needed coca cola syrup, thus making the staff open bottles for mixed drinks..This put an added burden on the bar staff, as well as inconvenienced guests that could have helped themselves.Hopefully that has been addressed. One other issue that I can't avoid is the "coffee situation". To be fair, it has slightly improved since last year, but still is very notable to guests, and that is.. The coffee served is very limited in the time, and amount that's available outside of breakfast service, and frankly not too good. I hate sounding critical here, but, the way it's made I think may be percolated, and each cup gives you grounds before you finish it. Also the type of coffee I believe is neither Ja. Blue Mountain or Ja. High Mountain. I would recommend having a dedicated coffee station available to guests in or outside of the lobby.. with a commercial style coffee maker (drip). The rooms had coffee makers, but only decaf was available for them the week we were there..<ok, coffee talk over>.
One can't talk of this place without talking of the beach. This is the perfect location and depth of seven mile beach in my opinion, in Negril. So many places to see within walking distance, ample shade trees for respite from the sun, and a pool that is well kept, and never crowded. With that said, the whirlpool should be removed if not maintained as it is pretty to look at but we knew weeks ahead of time it probably wouldn't be clean, hot, and bubbly....all at once.None of these issues are deal breakers in my opinion, but could be addressed.
Again, I recommend this resort to those that want to interact with other guests and staff and make friends, and like a small property with a great location, and fair rates.Thank You Mr. Pike for the outstanding job you and all of your staff do to make us feel at home in paradise!!
