What i am about to write is the whole truth and it is these facts that i wish you all to read, i am not being insulting i am just being honest and i think it is only fair that your readers have the chance to read the complete and while truth so please allow me to tell it. We have just returned from a 2 week all inclusive stay at the Coral Beach Hotel and all i can say is that it was a complete waste of money and time, in fact if it wasn't for the fact that we were there as a guest to a friends wedding we would have either moved hotels or tried to get a flight home early, it was that bad. The hotel itself was ok, the rooms were spacious, adequate in some respects but poor in others, our drawers for clothes etc were so old that if we opened them we couldn't clsoe them and if we closed them we couldn't open them, you could see daylight around the doors so they were not very sound proof and as outside music would go on through the night - most nights- until stopping at the earliest 2.30 in the morning and twice not finishing until 5 in the morning the doors were a complete waste of time, the bathroom was old and ugly, rusty , dirty, cracked tiles, more days the water would be cold rather than hot so cold baths/showers. Our bedroom was flooded twice because of a fault with the air conditioner and on both occassions our sons bed cover was soaked but it never got changed, in fact none of our beds had clean sheets on them for the 1st week we were there. The food was 3 buffet style meals a day which was nearly the same 3 every day and after 14 days you get a bit sick of the same ,it was meant to be an A la Carte menu but we only had that choice once as there were not enough staff. Every meal you had to fight to find cutlery, cups and saucers, even tea and milk, the bar was always running out of drink, even the basics like bottled water and orange juice, it was a complete sham, our friends held their wedding reception at he Coral Seas Cliff Hotel which is part of the same company and even then the hotel ran out of food and plates to serve it on and that was at a catered wedding, how sad and disorganised is that for a hotel!!
There are only 2 things good about that place and they are the beach and the staff, the staff were so friendly and helpful and they coped so well with all the problems that they deserved a damn medal, . So its simple, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY STAYING AT THIS HOTEL, PLEASE DON'T. as for Negril itself, its manic, its not safe to walk about in the evening unless there is a group of you, there is no where to go, the roads are not safe to drive on so dont hire a car, (its the local drivers that are the problem), there are also hardly any sign posts so you don't know where you are going. We will NEVER NEVER return to Negril again which is a shame because there maybe some real nice palces to stay and see but our stay has put us off ever returning.

This hotel is a good pick if you want something reasonably priced right on the beach. The hotel itself is ok. The rooms are pretty nice and spacious with high ceilings, but they don’t have window panes, just big blinds. The hotel is pretty close to an outdoor dancehall where locals dj and dance (go to this if you can, it's a blast and the music is great!) so the music may keep you up at night. The hotel staff were not too accommodating. Check in was at 4 but we did not get our room until after 6 and we just had to sit there and wait after a long flight. They are definitely on Jamaican time.

The real reason that you would want to go to this hotel is the beach. Negril's 7 mile beach is to die for, and you have great beach real estate with this hotel. What we did was just bring in some alcohol and snacks from the US and stored them at the hotel (they have a fridge in every room I think) and that turned out to be pretty cost effective.

“Reasonable and Charming”

Look, the Beach Hotel is not grand, but it has a beautiful and relatively private beach for Negril, the foliage around the well kept grounds is lovely, and at these prices it is a great deal for those interested in beach living. The all inclusive deal only includes one restaurant on the site and a very similar restaurant across the street, both decent, and they move at Jamaica speed - nice and slow - but if you expect that you get used to it. If you're not on the plan (like us) and you like trying the wide variety of excellent restaurants (not so cheap) on the nearby cliffs or the local street fare (cheap) then I recomend getting a room with a kitchen, it's like 15 bucks more and you can store beer and booze and fruit when you get the munchies - you are in Jamaica after all. The staff is great all around but realize that they all have limited authority to make changes. We considered changing to the all inclusive meal plan at first (drinking alone would make it worth the while) and this really seemed to freak out the office staff who are not authorized to make these changes. They also seemed scared to call the imperious Manager who only visits the hotel a few times a week. When you get into conflict with the staff realize that their jobs are very hard to get in poor Jamaica and a lack of action on their part is usually driven by fear. In other words, like in most British colonies, the guy or gal on top is usually not there and rules like a petty dictator.

We were happier off the plan because we are New York foodies and really dig variety. The rooms are very plain, and not very new, but for travellers on a budget this is a great place and the other people at the hotel are usually returning guests, mostly on the meal plan, and really friendly. There were several children there, and if you need a pool for them occasionally there is one at the place across the street - but the Beach Hotel is far more charming. If you are not all inclusive and you need a ride from the airport call the hotel ahead of time and they will send the cab/mini-van guy who always serves the hotel - a real nice guy. If you bop around a lot he'll be your guide, and don't be afraid to ask him right off the bat where to find what many visiting Jamaica are there to seek, if you catch my drift. The cab drivers know the good restaurants as well. The live music on the beach has a schedule as well, certain bars or clubs on the beach feature music on certain nights. Last comment, be aware of the weeks late in March that constitute spring break - it changes everything for the worst or the best depending on how much madness you can tolerate.

Nice small resort with a great staff. Being on the far west end of seven mile beach you will see fewer beach vendors,( very relaxing ) , but still close enough to walk to Alfreds and Roots Bamboo. Jet Ski rental right there on the grounds and those guys can hook you up with glass bottom boat or parasailing. The bar has top shelf liquer and prices are reasonable. Food is good, grilled snapper and lobster thermidore are great. The salads are boring, way to much cabbage and not enough lettuce. Rooms are big but nothing fancy but the rates are low so I can't complain. The beach has some big, flat, smooth limestone rocks close to shore but you can walk right over them or around them. lots of beach chairs to be had and the grounds crew place them where you want and wipe them down. The wait staff is really nice.

Bad parts - Room had many problems. The bed was very hard, only a top mattress on a box frame, no box spring, no hair dryer available, air conditioner remote didn't adjust the temperature, we had to stand on a chair to turn it off and on, tv remote didn't work, balcony door didn't lock, bathroom door didn't shut and it took us 3 days to get washcloths. We had the all-inclusive package and the bar was always running out of Red Stripe or Rum cream. They ran out of lobster on the one night we were served lobster. We had to wait 45 minutes for more to be made. Nothing is ever on time. We waited 2 1/2 hours two days in a row for our glass bottom boat ride that the hotel set up and we had paid for in advance.
Good parts - The Limo ride from and to the airport was excellent and very professional. The driver Henry was great. The wait staff was awesome. Very polite and always ready to please.
