As small bar owner I loved this place. Best in the West provided a slice of Jamaican reality that gave contrast to our hotel Coco LaPalm. Coco LaPalm is awesome and it's fairly spendy and it's directly across the street from BITW. That being said, BITW is a thatch roof shack made into an 11 seat bar/Jerk stand. Eddy is the guy in the photo cooking on the grill. He's also one of the bartenders. Eddie is an honest resource, he can help you with anything. That's something you will appreciate after 1 day in JA. No BS. he's the real deal. If he's not there then you get Shadeen (really pretty and smart...I mean really). Both Eddy and Shadeen were big parts of our 10 day stay. We managed to ditch the kids at the resort and hit this bar 2-3 times during the day. The beer was ice cold and the drinks were well made. We also had dinner here with the kids 4 out of 10 days. All of the food was very good. We had snapper, lobster and chicken, served with rice and red peas. The bar drew tourists from the hotels and a good mix of local characters. If you prefer nice, clean and professional you should hang at the resort. If you want a glimpse into Jamaican reality, spend a few hours here drinking red stripe. Say hello from General Magnum!
