This was our fourth stay at Beaches Sandy Bay. On this trip we asked one of our daughters and family to join us. We also brought our two minor children, ages 12 and 13. We married at BSB on January 23, 2004, and have returned for our anniversary each year since.
The rooms were remodeled since our last trip. The rooms are very nice, yet the new oversized furniture limits the space in the room. The major downside was that the easy chair was removed. That chair was always a favorite for us to move to the balcony to enjoy the view. However, with the beach and gorgeous weather, who spends time in the room?
Again, the water sports activities were abundant. We want to thank Oliver, Joyce and Debbie for their friendly attitudes. Oliver added to the snorkel trips by getting in the water and showing us the sea life. Some of the things we saw besides the cool fish were Sea Turtles, Barracudas, Trumpet Fish and a Flying Gunnard. We also want to thank the Dive Staff at Sandals, who went out of their way to make our scuba diving experiences exceptional.
Most of our experience was wonderful. We, for the most part, would recommend BSB for your vacation. The food, and variety of food choices, was better this year than previous. The bar staff and wait staff were very courteous. Housekeeping was prompt, courteous and our room was clean. BSB’s groundskeepers were friendly and answered all of our questions; they even told stories to make our stay more interesting.
We must also mention the entertainment staff. Kenneil, Tinkerbell, Sonya and Amanda did a great job keeping the kids and adults busy with fun activities. Chicken Noodle Soup was “the dance” to learn this year!
Frankly we very disappointed with the 1970’s elevator music that was played throughout the day, but especially in the evening. We traveled to Jamaica to listen to Reggae; we heard other families sharing this same complaint. We asked the front desk to make modifications and were told they were given a few CD’s from the corporate office and that was all they could play. The nice thing about staying at a Beaches/Sandals resort is that the adults can walk (the short distance) to Sandals and enjoy the Reggae music there!
Sesame Street was way overdone. We understand that BSB caters to families. But we were two families, and like many other families that visit BSB, with older children have outgrown Sesame Street. We do not have a problem with Sesame Street being a theme, but not for dinner – if so, should be limited to one night a week. The repetitiveness of the Sesame Street shows was simply too much. Jamaica is synonymous with Reggae--there was little Reggae played at BSB this year. We really did miss hearing Dali-man and his band; they did not play the entire week we were there.
It is our plan to return next year. We really do enjoy our vacations at BSB.
