A group of about 50 people and I went to Negril to stay for a wedding, and many of us brought home bed bugs. We thoroughly cleaned our luggage and clothing, but the little critters are still around. My mother noticed bug bites on her legs at the hotel but assumed they were from a mosquito.
Beaches Negril is geared primarily toward children with a big emphasis on Sesame Street characters. The hotel staff is not attentive, sometimes taking more than an hour to fulfill a simple request (a bottle of champagne or an umbrella). They were friendly enough, but I've had better experiences at other resorts.
The beaches themselves are beautiful, and the free water sports and snorkeling are fun. The food is decent, but make sure to book the Japanese restaurant ASAP because it fills up the fastest.
Also, most summer afternoons will have a two-to-three-hour rainstorm, so don't plan to be on the beach all afternoon.
The fitness center is open-air with no air conditioning, so it isn't used much. The equipment is in good shape, and the treadmills feel like they haven't been used much and are still cushioned.
Overall, I would not return to this resort because of the bedbugs and lacking service. Jamaica is beautiful, but this place left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have read several reviews of this resort now that we are back in the good 'ol USA. I wish I had read these reviews before we went, as we would have NEVER wasted the money!

We are not huge complainers, but 1 hour after arriving at the resort I was demanding to speak with the manager. What a mess.

Initial impressions mean a lot to me. And I have never been to the Caribbean and never paid to stay at an all-inclusive resort. What a huge disappointment.

We arrived mid-afternoon during a thunderstorm...approximately 2:30 PM. We travelled via a very shoddy bus/van (we were the only 4 on the bus) in which the A/C barely worked...and I swear we never went faster than 20 mph. What a long and awful trip. Do you know what it is like to be faced with a drive like that when you have been up since 3:30 AM and travelling all day? And then the guy wants to stop at a "rest area" so he can link up with his girlfriend. What!?

So, we get to the resort, it's pouring, and we are dumped at the front entrance where 30 people are waiting for their ride out of this "resort" and all their bags stacked up. We are taken to the general waiting area and offered fruit punch that doesn't arrive before someone "remembers" that we are Suite Concierge guests and should be waiting in a nice air conditioned room. We are brought there and told our room is still not ready. We are then walked over to the cafe near the waterslides for lunch. We are walking by the kids play area and such I am noting how run down everything looks. When we get to the cafe, there is a section that is undergoing renovation. We sit down, order food, and it is AWFUL. I ordered a burger that was thin, dried out, warm at best and tasted like goat. One bite and I was pissed. That was the last straw. We paid all this money for THIS!?

No one is there to help us find our way back to the Concierge Suite, so we wander around in the rain for a bit before we find it. I ask for the manager and wait, and wait, and wait. Finally he arrives and I tell him my concerns. He looks at me like I am some sort of spoiled American nut.

We are taken to our room, on the 3rd floor, which is supposed to be an Beachfront Honeymoon Suite. We can barely see the beach or the ocean due to the trees. And this room is in a building that borders the Couples Swept Away resort about 20 feet away. That evening, when attempting to go to bed, the live music at Couples starts. It sounds like the band is right in our room. Back on the phone with Concierge. They will get us a new room the next day. Meanwhile, the A/C unit is loud and leaks all over the floor.

I waste 1/2 of the following day arranging the room change. We have to re-pack all of our bags. We are moved to a 1st floor beachfront suite in the center of the resort. Better, but close to the Big Top area so we are serenaded to loud music and the like each night. Not to mention the creatures in the bushes and around the buildings that start screeching as soon as the sun goes down. They make such a racket you cannot even hear yourself think when you are out walking around, never mind trying to sleep. Oh yes, we spotted the occasional roach in the clothes drawers as well. Nice touch.

Overall, the service was poor, the food was not good (I lost some weight actually, and I am 5'10" 160 pounds as it is) and the resort could use some MAJOR sprucing up. I think that they forgot we were in a new room as we only got nightly turn down service twice the entire week, and our room was never cleaned up each day until 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

I never thought I would miss Burger King in the States, but Jamaica and Beaches Negril had me longing for a bacon double cheeseburger. Heck, I would have done anything for a piece of beef that wasn't overcooked and chewy. Yikes.

So, we dropped almost $6K on this resort. Not to mention the $3-$4K we paid for airfare just to get there. My advice, STAY AWAY!

We stayed at Beaches Negril June 25 - July 1 and were married at the resort. While we love Negril and will return soon, there are too many better options for us to return to Beaches.

Our wedding was beautiful and the wedding coordinator and staff did a great job. Our wedding pictures were very nice, but I think over priced.

The grounds and beach are beautiful and well maintained.

Our room was dirty and bug invested. We were moved to another room late in our stay. We should have complained much sooner, but the details of the wedding seemed more important...........plus I thought the cleaning staff just was having a bad day or two............Not the case. I will admit that the room we were moved to was much nicer, cleaner and no mosquitoes.

Before complaining to management, I discovered that this same bad room was refused by others for the same reasons and the guests were moved. You would think that BEACHES would have taken care of the problem.

We were also disappointed when we met other guests that were upgraded to a Honeymoon Suite without asking.....They were not on their Honeymoon.

The restaurant for adults only was very nice and the food was excellent. The food in the Mill was fine, but I thought the service was short on what I expected.

“Very good but don't expect too much”

My wife, daughter (20 months old) and I stayed the week of June 28-July 5. Overall our experience was very good. We felt the service(concierge/check-in, housekeeping, entertainment staff and most of the waitstaff) was excellent. The room(#128 in the Santa Cruz block) was 4star for the bedroom, 2-3star for the bathroom which needed updating. The food ranged from very good (steaks at the Last Chance Saloon, and the entertainment at Kimonos teppanyaki grill) to average (the buffet dinner at the Mill).

The beach was beautiful and the grounds were well kept.

Our daughter loved the Sesame street character breakfast so much that we had to attend again later in the week. There is a lot to do for tweens to teens (Xbox camp, waterslides, scuba, snorkelling, waterskiing etc).

Don't go expecting luxurious accomodations and fawning staff, but it wasn't a nightmare either.

“Nice, but some things you should know”

Beaches Negril

Jul 8, 2008

Our family of four just returned from Beaches Negril. I'll preface this by saying that I am an extremely picky traveler. Things that bother me don't bother most people. I spoke with several families during our trip that loved Beaches Negril and said it was "perfect". This review is for the people like me who are bothered by dirty dishes being left poolside without being picked up or the same wet towel sitting on the bathroom ledge for two days. I wouldn't go as far as saying the property was dirty because our room was very clean, but the pool areas bothered me. There is a swim up bar, but there were constantly dirty glasses and wet napkins on it. Lots of stuff floating in the pool by mid day. There was a walk up soda fountain that smelled really bad and I think was in need of a good cleaning. The beach is lovely, but also was littered with empty glasses by mid day. I rarely saw staff walking around during the day to tidy this up.

The food was marginal and the drinks were the same. My husband and I enjoy relaxing in a lounge or bar are during rainy afternoons or in the evening while on vacation and that doesn't really exist at this property. The two pool bars have no seating or bar stools on the land side (swim up bar with stools from the pool and walk up only with no seating on the land side). The main hotel bar is only open in the evening and doesn't have any bar seats either. There are three small tables near the "bar" which is really just a wrap around counter with some plumbing for a sink, a kegorator for the Red Stripe and a piece of lattice in the middle . It's really odd. There are two very old pool tables. They don't even have a proper hotel checkin counter. It's two tables pushed together!

The overall condition of the property is a bit dated. It surprises me that the owners wouldn't do some simple remodeling. For instance the main lobby room has some couches and leather chairs all badly in need of new upholstery. The chairs were black in places. I wouldn't even sit on them.

The staff was very nice. The entertainment at night was funny, but not in a good way! A magician, a few marginal singers, a guest talent show. I would rather have a steel drum band or something.

We had a good time. I just expected more.
