“The people of Jamaica make this one of the best places to vacation.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2009

We enjoyed this resort, but mostly enjoyed the wonderful people of Jamaica. The resort was well managed, clean and extremely friendly. The theme is definitely weddings, couples, anniversaries. Somewhat of a 20-30 yr old crowd just because of weddings, but absolutely no wild partying (like spring break hotels). Some older folks there vacationing. Everyone just totally relaxing. Anything you needed, they made sure you were taken care of. The staff's motto: We want you to slow down, relax and have no worries. The people are just happy. We felt very safe, even when venturing off property to shop and tour. Once you get away from the resort, you see the country and are reminded how lucky you are to live in a great country. We will return, but probably to a resort where we can bring family (probably to Sandals Beaches).

Service A+. We were treated like royalty. Everyone was super nice, and it did not seem as if it was because they were being paid to be nice. It seemed genuine. Some of the waiters made a point to know our names, and one of them even ran to the bus to say goodbye when we were leaving on our last day.

All water sports are included, except for para-sailing and jet-ski. Glass bottom boat ride, wind surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, all included. With the free food, activities, and transportation, Sandal's high price gets a couple steps closer to being reasonable.

Food A-. Food is really good, but it's more hybrid rather than fully Jamaican. They had no brown stew fish, and I did not see any lobster. They do have many different type of restaurants with different cuisines, and the Japanese one--Kimono--was good. This is the only hotel you have to make reservation for, and it is best to make your reservation at least 2 days in advance. Check out the beach grill for lunch.

Room B+. The décor was nicer than any rooms I've stayed at in Mexico, but not as nice as Vegas. Keep in mind though we got the basic tropical delux room. I had not read any reviews from people who stayed here, so I was not sure what to expect.

Hotel Grounds A+. The gardens are beautiful. The beach is really nice. The lobby is a tad dated, but I think they are about to start some updates. The atmosphere is romantic. About 80% of the people there are newly weds.

Sandal's provide free transportation from and to the airport, so there is no need to pay for separate transportation.

If you want to try some different food that’s 100% Jamaican, take a 5 minute cab ride to Cosmos. Cab ride should be less than $3 US.

Take a stroll down the beach. The beach in front of Beaches has a little less sea moss than Sandals. And on the opposite side of Sandals is Hedonism where you can swim in the nude.

Spent a week for our 30th anniversary at the Sandals Negril Beach Resort. Was extremely pleased! Stayed in a Honeymoon Beachfront Concierge Suite. Wasn't a large room but clean and nicely furnished. Did have a beautiful view of the beach from our balcony. The wet bar and frig were stocked - all inclusive. Having your own concierge is invaluable, as the concierge can make reservations and schedule tours, etc. and answer any questions you might have. There is one restaurant, Kimonos, that's very hard to get in. Book your reservation there as soon as you arrive or you won't get in (especially without a concierge finning for you). I recommend the romantic dinner for two on the beach. Our concierge had rose petals and champagne chilling in our room when we returned. The entertainment was average - could've been alot better. It is mostly younger couples and newlyweds, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Great food and service, and friendly staff.

A massive disappointment!

This was supposed to be one of those romantic ‘holidays of a lifetime’. We decided to splash out on what was supposed to be a luxury holiday. We normally stay at 4 or 5 star hotels in Europe and Africa and pay something like half the cost of that paid out for this holiday.

The Sandals ‘experience’ as portrayed on TV is far removed from what customers receive at the resort. In terms of luxury, both the rooms and diversity and quality of the food are below our expectations in comparison to what we have received at other hotels of a similar grade, but this is not what spoilt our holiday.

We are both active middle aged people. We enjoy holidays where there is a variety of physical activity and entertainment available and we enjoy swimming, good music and dancing. But we also welcome the opportunity to relax quietly when we want to.

Sandals is portrayed as a setting in which couples can enjoy a luxurious, active, but relaxing holiday. However, the Negril Beach resort, in our recent experience, appears to cater mainly for couples between 20 and 30, who enjoy continuous loud music and games.

The centre of the resort is dominated by games and loud music coming from the large swimming pool. Some of the games witnessed were provocative and totally inappropriate in the context of a luxury hotel. Those who enjoy relaxing by a pool, having the occasional swim to cool off are totally uncatered for at the resort. The smaller pool is inappropriate other than as a plunge pool.

The main restaurant at Negril Beach is located next to the main swimming pool. Although breakfast was undisturbed it was impossible to have a peaceful meal at lunchtimes as the music from the pool was often going full blast during lunchtimes to cater for the pool games. Even the beautiful beach was disturbed because of the noise coming from the pool area and the piano bar at all times of the day.

During the evenings, after dinner, it was impossible to find an area to relax quietly with a drink. The piano bar would have been fantastic, if that’s what it had been, but that was also far from the reality of the situation. After 10.30 pm this became a disco, karaoke bar and we had to seek the solitude of the beach two hundred yards from the bar in order to have a conversation. We can only presume that other couples who wanted some peace had to retreat to their rooms at this time, but we have no wish to isolate ourselves in this manner until we want to go to bed. Surely a luxury hotel should provide another area, removed from the music, equipped with a bar, to cater for people who want a more relaxing evening?

Night time entertainment provided at the resort was not of high quality and was repetitive for those guests staying more than one week, except in a few cases where the resort had brought in outside entertainers. We don’t know how many times we had to experience reggae dance competitions! We also felt at times that we were the guests at the staff party rather than the other way round, and even though we respected the fact that Jamaica’s Independence and Emancipation days needed to be celebrated, the provision for guests and service on those days and the days of beach parties was of reduced quality.

We are aware that our views will be not be shared by all customers, as a good percentage of, but not all, the 20 – 35 year olds would have enjoyed the range of water sports activities, pool games, music and entertainment that the resort provides.

We are not sure, of course, whether the fault for the above inadequacies lies with the resort management or with the philosophy of Sandals resorts worldwide. However we feel that Sandals should make it quite clear in their advertising that this is what couples can expect so that a more accurate judgment can be reached as to whether the resort is a suitable destination for couples such as ourselves.

We feel that, at present, we are unable to recommend Sandals to anyone outside of the younger age group who want a ‘special’ holiday. That is a great shame, because with some tweaking, the resort could cater for everyone’s needs and everyone, not just a select few, would be able to get the most from this fantastic location. The hotel has a great deal going for it, supported, by and large, by a very welcoming staff. Luxury Included, however, and all that it implies, should mean exactly that and Sandals’ definition of that does not match up to many of the other locations we have visited.

My husband and I took this trip for our 15th anniversary and we had the time of our life. The service from the hotel from the minute our plane landed was superb. The greeting at the airport was warm and sincere, and the staff made us feel very welcome. We were impressed with the hospitality of all the staff, from the bell-boys, waiters, waitresses, manager, etc. We were able to go on a sunset sail and snorkel, which we had never done before. My husband and I, truly relaxed, for the first time. Our jobs are quite stressful, but by the end of our stay we did not want to leave. We are so thankful that we chose this resort and look forward to coming back again in the near future.

We were somewhat disappointed with the Sandals Resort, Negril. We had expected a higher quality facility. It was a 1-½ hour ride from the airport to the resort. Tipping for this service was not included in our package.
The rooms were adequate but nothing above the ordinary and needed updating. The room service was below par. We did not receive a toiletry packet until we called to request one. Our room glasses and coffee cups were not washed or replaced daily. The water pressure was very bad. We reported this several times and were promised it would be fixed but nothing ever changed.
The food was good. We would have liked to have more choices. In the morning between 7 and 7:30 AM no restaurant was open. We have not encountered this at other all-inclusive resorts. The birds at table side in the Bayside were very aggressive and somewhat annoying. Table service was adequate but sometimes slow.
All water activities such as water skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and hobby cats were part of the all-inclusive package. This was a pleasant surprise. At other all-inclusive resorts this has not been the case. There were plenty of activities for all ages. We did take a $40 per couple trip to Ricks to watch the cliff divers and some of our group dove.
The weather was very warm but it did rain every day. There was only one day when it lasted for several hours.

We have stayed at this property twice before. I was anxious to go back. This stay was better, if that is possible. The staff, property, rooms, dive boats, were great! The food was better than I remember. Every person on the property was helpful and happy. It rained every afternoon, but there is always a bar to sit at with superfine drinks and bartenders that move very fast(that's not normal for the Carribbean)

Every night offered really good entertainment. The dive shop/dives were very professionally run.

We walked off property. We do every visit. Never have we felt uncomfortable. If you don't want to meet Jamaicans, don't come to Jamaica. As a people, as a whole, these are the proudest, but yet most humble I have met anywhere in the caribbean. I can't wait to hear "Welcome Home" very soon.
