We visited Sandals Negril October 22-31, 2008. It was our third visit to a Sandals resort and we had a wonderful time at this one. We booked our trip through Amy McHugh at Dream Makers Vacation Services and she is great to work with.
Our US Air flights arrived ahead of schedule. Hooray! Going through Immigrations and Customs in Montego Bay were a breeze. We arrived at the Sandals lounge and were only there a few minutes before we were taken to the van. We were on our way to Negril about 45 minutes after landing. The driver was very informative and a great source of information on the area and Jamiaca in general. The drive took about one and a half hours. We enjoyed it and seeing that part of Jamaica on the way. We were greeted at Sandals Negril by several very friendly staff members along with the standard cool, wet towel and cold drinks.
We booked a Honeymoon Concierge Beachfront Walk-Out Room. When we arrived in the Concierge Lounge, we were told we had been upgraded to a butler suite. Sweet! We're sure it was thanks to Amy, our Travel Agent, and the nice people at Sandals Negril! One of the butlers took us to our room, checked us in and gave us all of the information we needed. He also gave us a cell phone so we could call them when we needed something. We were upgraded four levels to a Honeymoon Beachfront One- Bedroom Loft Suite in the Coconut Grove Building. We had a wonderful view of the beach and water from our porch on the second floor. The loft suite has a living room with bar and t.v. on the main floor and spiral stair case up to the bedroom with t.v. and bath area. There is AC on both levels so that was no problem and sometimes even got too cool for us. It was a great room and we enjoyed it.
We had a great gift package waiting in our suite from Amy, our Travel Agent, and the Sandals Negril Sales Team. It was a wonderful surprise filled with several items from Jamaica and the resort.
Our butlers were Bernard and Mark who couldn't do enough for us and learned our preferences very quickly. They surprised us every day with something special. And, made sure we were always happy and had what we needed or wanted. We cannot say enough good things about these gentlemen. They were great and we will request them when we go back!
We loved Sandals Negril and everything about it. It is a very narrow but long property with most everything located right on or very near the beach. For us, we were most interested in the beach and ocean. However, there are three pools (+ a pool strictly for scuba lessons) to cool off in also. None are huge but the layouts are nice and none of them were crowded.
We had great food in all the restaurants where we ate - the Bayside, 4Cs, the Sundowner and Barefoot by the Sea. The people in all of restaurants are so friendly and helpful. And, service was very good.
We ate lunch at the Grill every day and had the Jamaican patties, jerk chicken, hamburgers and/or grilled chesse. Vivian, Dwayne and all the staff there make the experience a good one. They work hard, are friendly, make great food and even entertain a bit with a little singing and dancing sometimes while preparing our lunch.
One of the very best meals we had was the Monday night Beach buffet/party right on the beach. There was everything you could think of to eat. Our favorites were the pepper shrimp, jerk chicken, curry lamb, oxtail stew and rice & peas. A highlight for us was the fresh coconut and coconut milk. That was an awesome meal. Frederic, the Food Services Manager, and all the food staff do a great job with all the food at the resort!
We discovered water sports on this Sandals trip after a few days and, then, wondered why it took us so long! Michael and all the guys at Water Sports (and ladies at the Dive Shop) are great to talk to, very helpful and informative. We went kayaking and one of the guys took us out on a Hobie Cat one day.
Snorkling is great there! We went out almost every day and sometimes twice a day and had a really good time. Captain Barrington, Mackey, Toby (the photographer) and Travis are great at what they do and loads of fun. We really enjoyed every trip and the entertainment to and from the reefs is something that should not be missed.
We walked south down the beach one day toward Negril and visited Beaches Sandy Bay next door to Sandals and Sandals Negril about a mile or so further down the beach. Both are very nice resorts and great places for families/kids. The beach is beautiful here, as well, with crystal clear water.
We went to Rick's Cafe one afternoon for drinks, to watch the cliff divers and listen to the great band there that evening. We'll go back there when in Negril again as it was a lot of fun.
Winston Anderson, the General Manager, and ALL the staff at Sandals Negril are wonderful and always making sure you are having a good time and enjoying your vacation. We are already planning a trip back to this resort next year.
We recommend Sandals Negril and Amy McHugh at Dream Makers Vacation Services to everyone. They ensure you have the best vacation possible!
