We stayed at Sandals Negril from Feb. 7 through 14. It was our first trip to Jamaica, and our first experience with an all-inclusive, and we would gladly repeat both. Our room was right on the beach -- about 30 to 40 yards, and, while it wasn't huge, was plenty big for us (we didn't go to Jamaica to spend all day in our room anyway). The food was outstanding, the staff was great, the couples massage was heavenly. We went to Rick's Cafe, and it was OK, but not sure it was worth the money. My husband jumped off the cliff, which he enjoyed, but the boat ride out was so-so, and the sunset was no better than that at Sandals.
We also took the shopping trip, and it was well worth the money. They took us to a open-air market first and then to the duty-free shops. The house band plays every night, and they aren't bad. Then, around 8, they have some sort of entertainment -- fire eaters, native dancers, other musical guests. Our only somewhat minor complaint would be that by 10 o'clock things pretty much quiet down. There's always a group at the piano bar until much later, but there was never anyone but staff dancing in the disco, and no encouragement to get guests to come in and dance. The breakfast buffet had more food than you could possibly sample -- even in a week, and the lunch buffet also had lots to choose from. Both of these were in the main restaurant, with seating that overlooked the beautiful ocean. The 4Cs was probably our favorite -- you pick out all your own ingredients for stirfry, and then a chef prepares. Seating also overlooked the ocean. We tried all the other restaurants, but most of the time just ate at the main restaurant. Nice shorts are perfectly acceptable for dinner in any of the restaurants.
My husband took long pants, but never wore them. There's always something going on around the pool during the day. We went snorkeling and took the hobie cats and kayaks out, but they didn't have some of the other equipment shown in the brochure. The gift shop on the grounds is extremely overpriced -- take the shopping trip for souvenirs. The bus ride was fine -- not scary at all, just interesting -- and a little depressing to have to witness the extreme poverty. The weather was gorgeous, the grounds were beautiful, and we'll definitely plan another trip.
