My husband and I took advantage of everything Sandals and Negril had to offer. We relaxed, but also had the most adventrous trip ever!!
Room Food & Drinks
We had the beachfront walkout room, and were more than pleased with the location and proximity (20 feet to the beach with an unobstructed view) Heavenly!! We loved leaving the sliding patio door opened and listening to the waves during the time we spent in the room (We did keep the the thin net curtain pulled over the patio doors while they were opened, very romantic) Actually we rarely closed our patio door and entered in and out of out room that way ( much nicer to walk down the beach to our room than go down a hallway) We had no issue with bugs in our room- we kept Concierge service was lovely, called and checked up on us regularly. We were offered an upgraded room, but declined because we were so pleased with our view and location. Food was great, wonderful variety. We loved the pizza!!!! and used late night room service. Drinks were great- top shelf brands and enjoyed the bars. Wonderful service in the restaurants and bars, very pleased
My husband had been scuba certified years before, but it had always been a dream of mine so we took part in getting our PADI open water certification. The guys at the dive shop were so friendly and fun! Special thanks to Emron (our instructor) We were able to go on 5 dives once certified, and had a blast!!!! Beautiful diving.
Leaving the resort
We were told by several sources "do not leave the resort; it may not be safe" We felt safe, and spent a lot of time off the resort. We walked north and south on the beach, through Hedonism resort (next resort over) we are not much on the whole nudest thing, but it was an experience! On the other side of the resort there were some shops, and people did come up to us to try and sell us things (including smoke) but a simple "no thank you" and they went about their business. Friendly "no problem" attitude was all we encountered from the locals. We loved meeting some of the locals and chatted with several of them.
Rented a Motorcycle
If you enjoy motorcycle riding (as we do) I highly recommend renting a bike!!! This was the highlight of our trip!!! We went to our concierge, and she said no one she knew of had done this....she recommended going on tours the resort offered. We wanted to get out on our own tour, and did not want to spend so much money on a timed tour. My husband is a very experienced driver, and even though they drive on the left side of the road I felt good about it. (Much easier to drive a motorcycle on the opposite side of the road than a car) We took a cab just into town to Prentos bike rental. They were wonderful! Very friendly guy who gave us an amazing deal!! (the single cab ride cost almost as much as the rental did for one full day) We had the bike for the final 3 full days while at the resort, and they let us park in the parking lot overnight and the security guard kept look over it at night.
We rode all over the west side of Jamaica-- We went to up to Dolphin Cove, Ricks (a few times) Margaritaville, The Blue Hole, Rolling River, the Caves resort, and even rode down to Sandals Whitehouse to check it out and have lunch. It was wonderful!!! But I was glad I had decided on staying in Negril. We rode back up that night after leaving Whitehouse to Ricks for sunset where while diving my husband lost his wedding band, we were crushed.....Amazingly though the next day Hector, (a diver that works at Ricks dove down in the 40 ft water and found my husbands ring)!!!!! We were thrilled!!!!! We gave Hector a nice cash gift for finding it. Amazing!!!
The road hugs the coastline and there are AMAZING views of the water and cliffs. Absolutely most beautiful ride I have ever been on. We also visited Beaches for lunch one day- it was neat to check out some other sandals properties, and enjoy what the have to offer. While you are staying at any Sandals resort you can vist, eat, drink, and play at any of the other ones too!
We loved riding, but we did use common sense. There were several times locals would try to flag us down to stop and buy something from them, but we ignored them and kept riding. We went to places we felt comfortable with. One local gave us directions and expected compensation in return. Also, some of the locals will pose as tour guides, and try to take you on a tour, but stick to your own plan...we came across this once.
All in all, it was not only the most amazing honeymoon, but the TRIP of a Lifetime!! Sandals staff & the resorts were amazingly wonderful, hospitable, and friendly.
I Love Sandals, I love Jamaica, & I love the locals there!
