“Good as always!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2011

This was our 4th stay at Sandals, Negril. We've only visited other Sandals one time each. We love Sandals, Negril. Our expectations were met or exceeded again. I scuba dived once and sailed a small catamaran several times. All very good. We stayed in a different suite - a two story. I was a little concerned about going up stairs to go to and from the bedroom, but it worked out just fine - and it gave us more room. I would always recommend Sandals, Negril, to anyone who wants a romantic place to stay and who mostly want to stay on or near the property. The Negril 7 mile beach is narrow, but very nice. During our 7 days, we maybe had two hours of very light rain and maybe 2 -3 more hours of overcast skies.

The beach is an A+, the staff is an A+, the food is incredible, and the atmosphere cannot be beat. We thought that we were ready to go home afetr a week. We got hame, and after 2-3 days, we wanted to go back to Sandals Negril.

We've stayed in less expensive all-inclusives in Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. They were all substantially (40%) less costly, and newer, nicer buildings. The Sandals Negril appeared to be about 20 years old, and the rooms were the smallest we've seen while traveling.

If you want a small resort with sit-down dinners instead of a buffet, need nice wine, and will use the included water sports, this is for you.

However, if you prefer buffets instead of interminably long 2 hour dinners, save yourself some serious change and check out Rius, Iberostars, or Aventura Palaces.

The BIGGEST annoyance: This facility didn't have enough beach chairs. Most days we had to put stuff on chairs by 5:30 AM (!!) to ensure we had a place to sit. Management didn't care if people reserved chairs all day, even if they weren't used. Other resorts have a 2 hour policy--if your towel is still there after 2 hours, you lose your spot.

Bait & Switch: We had originally booked (and paid for) a week at their newest resort, the White House. At the very last minute we were told that the White House was overbooked, and we'd be going to Negril instead.

Sandals Negril is perfect if you want ultimate relaxation because the resort is small and everything is all within reach. The staff definitely makes it, from maids to butlers. Every person we saw asked us if everything was OK and if not, they'd help us with what we were looking for. Some of the older suites are showing their age, but they are still kept clean and very comfortable. Initially reluctant about butler service, their maximum service with minimum invasion policy changed our minds completely. We were lucky enough to have the best butlers, Kenrick and Jerry, who were always one step ahead of our wants and needs. Secretly in the background making everything perfect!! The food was excellent at all the restaurants on site. Also, the water sports are fantastic and the water sports staff Francis (DT), Davian (Smiley), Dr.(dolphin photograher!!), Big Pappa are the best!! The only negative comment we have is the nightly entertainment. After dinner, it would be nice to have a different show to go to each night. The resort is so beautiful we didn't want to leave, but we found it a little boring at night by the end of the week, especially since we're not newlyweds!!!

I've never written a review but thought I should. Maybe this will help someone out there thinking about traveling to this resort. Lets face it, you spend a good amount of your hard earned money so you want to make the right decision.

This resort is good for someone who:
-Likes a long beach
-Does not mind a noisy beach.
-Likes to smoke

This resort is NOT good for someone who:
-wants a quite beach. It's public so you get hounded every 5 minutes your on the beach to buy or rent something.... Don't think you will be able to take a nap on the beach. Trust me it will not happen.
-is on a budget and does not want to get a top tier room catagory. If not you will be by the road which will keep you up all night unless you are one of those type of people who can sleep through anything.
-doesn't mind so so food. The tenderloin at the sundowner rest is not tenderloin, it must have been a sirloin because if was very tough and chewey. Overall, most of the food would be average, definately not going to wow you if you are looking for that sort of thing.
-likes to be entertained unless you like to watch some dancing and jugglers.....
-likes bigger pools. The two pools at the resort were very small. One of them reminded me about the size of the kiddie pool at your local outdoor city pool. 5 people in the pool was crowded. I'm not kidding.

Overall we were dissapointed but we made the best of our vacation. We will not go back to this resort. Previously we've stayed at Sandals Ocho Rios and everything was better their than this resort. The only advantage of this resort is the beach. Again, you must be ok with it being not being a private beach. Good luck on your decision!

If you visit Sandals Negril and do not take advantage of all of the GREAT water sports, you are truly missing out. Scuba, snorkel, kayak, cataraman, wind surf, water bike - they are all included! I went out snorkeling once a day. Trips are about an hour, leave right from the beach, and offered 4 different times a day. Double Trouble and Smiley really make the trips fun, and the coral and beautiful fish are unbelivable. Bring a camera.

I read a lot of the reviewsbefore we went, and much is true. Rooms are small, a bit dated but clean. Beach is narrow. The hunt for beach chairs usually starts at 5 - 6 am. Getting a pool float is a whole other story. Staff is friendly. Food is ok. Plenty of clean towels (after 7:30 am)

In terms of night life, the Piano Bar was always hopping, with a great DJ, music and plenty of dancing - as well as pool and ping-pong (quite a challenge after a couple of Red Stripe).

The sand volleyball court was 2 inches of sand over cement, and shut down during the 4+ weddings a day - move it toward the water sports area - Please!

Take your Sandals card and walk down the beach to the other two Beaches/Sandals resorts that are nearby - stop for a refreshing beverage, do a bit of shopping, use the waterslide, or the lazy river. Coffee is cheapest to buy on the beach!

My only gripe is tipping - it took us until mid-week to learn how to tip the staff. Management frowns on tipping these hard-workers, so you need to fold the bill in your hand, and slip it to them as you tell them "thanks, Mon" and shake their hand.

The ride to the resort was ok as was customs. The room was very nice and we were able to walk around and get something to eat before turning in on our first day.

We had great weather with only one afternoon of rain. The food was great as were the accommodations.

The beach was the main poroblem and a major disappointment with it being quite narrow and it was terrible as far as there was always someone trying to sell you something the whole time we were on the beach, every 10 minutes...they wouldn’t leave you alone for one minute! The beach was also very noisy with all the Jet Ski’s, fishing boats, water skiing and catamarans going the whole time we were on the beach. Because of that, we’d probably not go back to Jamaica or to this Sandals.

So it’s too bad that the beach was so dang busy all day long...it was just way too noisy and crowded, plus we always had to get up early(6am) to get lounge chairs, otherwise we’d be out of luck sitting on the beach or at the pool, which was also a disappointment because it was so small.

But I’m glad we went because I had never been there...just disappointed about the beach thing and my wife does not remember that being the case when she went there(not Sandals) several years ago.
