“Whistling Bird Supports their Community With Donations to Charity Group”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2011

I am the Founder and Director of an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that is working to improve animal welfare on the island of Jamaica through education and sterilization. We consist of a group of 15 to 20 volunteer vets and techs that donate their service to this project. We are always in need of accomodations and the last two times we have been to Negril, Whistling Bird has generously donated rooms to house our volunteers.

Whilstling Bird is very very relaxing and has a great staff that always tries to accomodate your every need. You can have your meals delivered to your room, to the bar area near the beach, or in the dining area. The food is awesome, and the rooms are beautiful. If you want REAL Jamaica, this is it!

After weeks of reading reviews, we finally decided on Whistling Bird for our first trip to Jamaica. Cottages were not as expected. No tv, no mini fridge, no clock. We did have a window unit a/c but there were no windows that closed. Bathroom window was open and no covering. Sink in bathroom had a hot water faucet and a cold water faucet and no stopper for the sink so you had to pick one or the other. Food was excellent but menu items were not always available. Really nice people and a wonderful beach area that was kept clean

The beach hustlers got really old quick but mist took no for an answer. This is a place we will probably not visit again.

Great place if you like peace and quiet except it was kind of noisy at night from frogs and such and they do have ear plugs if you need them. We tried to make an appointment for a massage but got no response back from management so we had to make our own appointment.

Life gets very busy for me as a Business Manager of a seven week-day establishment and when everything comes crashing in, Whistling Bird is the place that I dream about for rejuvinating my mind and body.

I fell in love with this property years ago. It is the only true 'Negril' property that I have encountered. Cozy, quaint, unpretentious, nestled amidst lush foliage. I love, love, love the bathrooms and the open windows in each cottage and the food is excellent. The beach buffet is a charming way to start the morning as we gaze upon the glass like water. I have to say a special kudos for the staff too -who know all four of my children by name.

Whistling Bird is my treasure. My absolute reward for working hard and though I would love to keep it as my little secret, I just know that there are other hard working families just as deserving of this experience. With you I share.

Thank you Whistling Bird. For everything!

This is a nice place to stay if you are on a budget. The hotel staff, especially in the kitchen are very friendly. The rooms are big and the location is very good as it is on the beach. the hotel I believe is being updated and the operations fine tuned by the owner. It has a very laid back feel which a lot persons will like.

Can do as much or as little as Negril has to offer. We stayed on the property 80% of the time and were treated better than family. Very accommodating to special requests and there is no better beach protector on the planet than Ryan who keeps any overzealous vendors at bay. Most of the beach vendors are wonderful hard working people who take a no for a no and a yes for a yes. Buy the juice, fruit and jerk pork and you will not be disappointed.

We will return.

We stayed for 10 days over new year and had a fantastic time.
The staff were friendly and attentive and couldn't do enough to help and to make our stay 5*.
The cottages have a boutique feel to them with plenty of room and great sunken showers.
The quite location on the beach made it truly relaxing.
New years eve was truly magical with 5 course dinning on the beach followed by bonfires under a starry sky.
We met many guests who had returned year after year and we can understand why.
If you are looking for a boutique experience chose the Whistling Bird Resort .

My husband and I traveled into Negril for the Reggae Marathon. We arranged our room with Anthony (who is american btw) and had no issues what so ever. He was very accomodating and not pushy. We love the charm of the bungalows. The beds could have been better (Im a fluffy bed lover so take that as it is). Our favorite part was the little bar with the very nice older woman, grace? perhaps. When we come in for the reggae in 2011 we will stay at Whistling Bird.
Helpful things:
Anthony is the owner/manager so deal with him
The beach is private up to a certain point, at night that means some shady people. WB does a pretty good job at keeping shady people away and warning where to go and where not.
Bug spray, helpful anywhere in Jamaica
Go for charm, not luxury or pampering. There is a difference and we wanted charm and to experience a bit more of Jamaica.
If you have an issue, express it
I probably would prefer to eat on the town, because I like more of a restaurant feel plus Im a picky eater.
If you think someone is rude, step back for a second and realize that you are visiting a different culture. perhaps they are not being rude at all.
