my husband and i just got back from a 5 day/4 night stay at NG. we travel a great deal and usually try to stay at more upscale type resorts and hotels. but this time we just wanted a quick, inexpensive getaway and based on the consistent positive reviews here, we chose NG.

first, let me say that the staff is amazing. always smiling, friendly and helpful.

the beach is beautiful and the staff keeps it very clean and security is always out there keeping the hustlers off the beach. although the guys selling "whatever" on the beach are basically innocuous and sometimes amusing.

the rooms are ok. awful lighting but clean. we stayed on the beach side and having had a look at the gardenside, i can't imagine why anyone would want to stay there (gardenside).

the food was barely edible (except for shrimp night). although you can get your omelette to order, the eggs seemed watered down and bland. the salad bar had much to be desired (although the pineapple was always fresh). you could order a burger or hot dog if you didn't care for the lunch (and lunch was pretty lousy). for me, i ate less than ususal but since the blended drinks at the bar were yummy and filling, i was satisfied! order the hummingbird.

all in all, we loved negril and would recommend NG if you're on a budget. we will definitely return to negril but we will stay elsewhere.

My husband and myself stayed at this resort we hd a great time. Our room was very clean, the staff was wonderful always smiling and helpful but I did find the service slow. How I see it if I were working in 120 plus degree heat I wouldn't be running either. The weather was excellent, as the white powdery Negril sands. The location of Negril Gardens is the best, close to everything we are located in the centre of Negril 7 Mile Beach. This is God's Country I wonder if the locals realize how perfect Negril is. The tourqois crystal-clear waters, there is topless bathing if bringing small children, BEWARE! Loved the waves especially for Boogie-Boards. Negril is breath-taking we have toured the Island, we have been to countless destinations and few compare. Negril Gardens has a few great features like the phone by the pool we loved that for pool-side drinks, slot machines and billiard tables had some great entertainment. We noticed lots of Americans and Italians we loved triing to communicate with the Italians they are so charming. This resort is guarded 24 hours daily no fears, safety is a top priority, this was one of the most relaxing holidays we've taken. Lie back and relax there is no need to do one excursion after another relax watch the wonderful sunset. We went horseback riding that was wonderful through the mountains. We went to Mayfield Falls a must visit it's a great natural jacuzzi. Best place to shop Sunshine Mall before the cliffs great deals. We loved this wonderful resort great food (different fish every night). Loved the reggae music, very strong drinks: Humming bird, Bob Marley's or try the Rum Punch. This is a wonderful resort , Exceptional for the price especially in Jamaica located on some of the best beach in the world. We would return to this wonderful resort I think being Canadian we appricate beauty and we don't sweat the small stuff !!!!!

For the people who have posted negative reviews- I'm not sure why. My husband and I just returned from Negril Gardens this evening after a 9 night stay, and loved it. The setting for this hotel is GORGEOUS and the grounds are wonderfully maintained. See our pictures, and you'll know what I mean. The staff was most gracious and greeted us both by name every day. Nadine at the bar did a fabulous job, and made us great drinks that tasted good and weren't watered down. Hyacinth made us tasty omlettes everyday for breakfast and greeted us with a big smile. Veron does an outstanding job of keeping the beach area clean, and keeping everyone supplied with clean beach towels and chairs. He was very attentive, as were the security staff who works at NG. They never let hustlers come onto the property. Our room was very clean, the water pressure was great, and the A/C worked really well. We stayed on the oceanside and had a lovely view (see pictures). The food staff does a great job of preparing different dishes every day. While we were there, we had various types of fresh fish, chicken, lamb, beef, pork, and a lot of local dishes, as well as various pasta dishes and American cuisine. The desserts were wonderful, as was all of the fresh fruit they served at every meal. This hotel is in a GREAT location if you want to stroll the beach or go listen to live reggae at a local nightclub, such as Alfred's or Bourbon Beach. It's also only about a 20 minute walk up the beach to a local flea market, as well as downtown Negril, and shopping malls. If you go snorkeling, talk to Omar and Randy from the Ocean King. They'll take you out to the reefs at Bloody Bay for only $15.00 per person US. ALso, if you like horseback riding, don't use Chukka Cove- which the hotel recommends. Instead, call up Rhodes Hall Plantation. They're only 15 minutes from NG, and will take you on a private ride where you get to ride in the mountains, and then on the beach, and into the sea for a swim with the horses (SO FUN!) for $60.00. They took us on a 2-1/2 hour ride, and we had a blast! All in all, we totally LOVED our stay at Negril Gardens, and plan to return. We looked at many of the other area hotels on 7 Mile Beach, and found none that we liked as much as this one. It's a great place for your money, and you won't be disappointed!

I am 16 years old and I went to Negril Gardens resort with my parents during the 1st week of Feb. I have to say that I really loved my room, it was very clean and cosy. ALso, the beach is very well maintained and nice. Since the resort is small, you quickly get to know everybody which was very fun. We met great people there including the staff members. Talkin about the staff members, they were very nice and friendly. Though, there was not a lot of activities or entertaining ON the site but luckily, there was a lot of entertaining every night not far from the resort. I think the food was very good even if there was not a big variety and I did not have any problems with 'no more alcohol' at the bar :) it was a memorable (1st) trip to Jamaica.

My wife and I stayed at the Negril Gardens from April 15-22nd, 2005. We had a great time. The resort is kept very clean. The grounds are immaculate. We stayed on the garden side where the pool and tennis court are located. It is very quiet there. They also have rooms on the beach side. You can use the phone by the pool to order drinks from the bar. You do have to cross the street to get to the beachside. However, they have guards at the crossing 24 hrs a day and they are very helpful.

The restaurant is excellent. The food and service are great (thank you Karlene). You are greeted everyday with a smile. The bar is right on the beach. As with the restaurant, the service is great (thank you Nadine, Omar and Andrew). The drinks are really good and, trust me, they put plenty of alcohol in them (watch out for those "Bob Marleys"). We met lots of great folks while down there (from Wisc, Ill, Cal, Italy, etc). The resort is approx half American/half Italian guests. The beach is beautiful. They have plenty of lounge chairs. They have a volleyball court and non-motorized watersports. As you have read, there are people who will approach you on the beach to sell things (just about everything). A polite "no thank you" and a handshake usually does the trick (if you're not interested). We went on one tour to Mayfield Falls with Talk of the Town Tours. We booked online before we left. The owner, Sala, was great. He arrived on time at the hotel and got us there safely with no problems. His prices were a little lower than those offered at the hotel. I highly recommend using them (they're on the web) and Mayfield Falls was great.

All in all, we had a really fun time. The resort is located in a prime spot on 7 Mile Beach (within walking distance to numerous restuarants, bars and clubs). The Negril area is very fun and we felt safe the entire time. Thank you Negril Gardens (and all our new friends).
