This place is a 2 to 3 star place. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The rooms are slightly dated but they meet the needs. The hot tub wasn't working but who cares. You are on a beautiful beach. You will not find a better place for breakfast in the morning. You are literally 5 feet from the waters edge. The view is fantastic. The location is good. There is a convenience store across the street if you need provisions. This is a place where you can go and relax with someone in a romantic quite setting.

We have just returned from a week at the foote-prints hotel following days of uncertainty if we had done the right thing (after reading other reviews) and gone for this as opposed to an All Inclusive hotel.

Our worries were unfounded and the only real issue that we had was reliability of the water supply for showering after long and pleasant days on the beach and in the clear warm refreshing Carribean sea.

Staff were pleasant and helpful, although bar staff had variety of charges for same drinks orders. Room was basic and only slightly lower standard that some All Inclusive that we have stayed in, particularly in Carribean resorts.

When booking you need to remember that you really do get what you pay for and should consider how long you will be spending in the room apart from sleeping, showering and changing. This is a hotel that was sufficient to our needs and for what we paid, value for money.

Only other thing to annoy was the local in the accomodation next door but one, that persists in trying to scrounge free drinks etc....!!!!!

Would we stop there again ? Possibly if only wanted a base to sleep, wash and change in. Location was excellent and could not have been better for stepping straight into the sea. Beach was clean and food was good.

  • Liked — Location next to sea
  • Disliked — water reliability
  • Tips/Secrets — Watch the local next door but one

My S.O. and I spent a week at Foote Prints to unwind and relax before gearing up to go back to work in September. The flight down was great despite the tighter restrictions at the airport, actually in retrospect all the hassle we received at the airport was nothing compared to the problems we encountered at Foote Prints. First, our room--what a sight! Fading chipped and stained walls, when we sat on the bed we immediately felt the springs! The bathroom was not much better. The room looked NOTHING like the pictures we saw online. The staff need a lot of work in customer service, they are very eager to take your money but provide little in return. Also, this place seems to have permanent local residents--some of which proved to be very annoying during our stay. Consider yourself warned!

I arrived in Negril for the first time to a nightmare. I had booked a room in the Footeprints and was beyond disappointed. There was one woman that was the security, bellhop, and maid. The room was unlike any of the rooms the website shows. It smelled of mold, the tv did not work, the soap in the shower was taken from a hotel down the road, and there was only a little latch on the door for a lock. There is construction everywhere, including exposed wires and holes in the wall. After my guest and I decided to leave we were practically thrown out of the hotel. The woman at the front desk refused to get us a cab and stuck us in an unmarked cab. We were refused money back, even though we only stayed for two hours. Thankfully, we spent the next few nights at the Sea Splash Resort. It is only two hotels away and a small price difference. The staff was wonderful and the hotel is beautiful. The Footeprints Hotel is a rip off.

This isn't a good hotel at all:
At random times during the day, the water, electricity and cable TV stopped for 5 min to a day. The jacuzzi was only in the website picture: it was out of order six days a week. Sometimes, the shower was broken, and the door lock needed repair. There was no protection against mosquitoes on the windows and you could smell garbage when you went to the beach. They were only two nice people working in the hotel, the cleaning lady and the fixer (who we saw a lot). The others ask you everyday with a bad face when you are leaving! And when you take a taxi they yell because it's not there friend's (who was going to get more money by ripping you off!).
In conclusion, try anything except this hotel. This is a really sincere review and nothing was invented!

I have just returned from holidaying at Foote Prints with my friend. We had a good time. The hotel is nice for what it is, but is clean and tidy not like others are saying. Our room was cleaned each day and sheets changed, bathroom cleaned etc. The food was great, only one meal I did not enjoy due to being very peppery, but the chef did not know I did not eat pepper! In general the staff were polite, and helpful. The position of the hotel makes up for alot though...as it is beachside! You can eat beach and sleep beach..smile.
The local food is excellent, with a good choice of continental dishes too, all made to order, hence the wait....but it is worth it. What you have do is order your food, then go have a shower or whatever you need to do, so you will not wait for long! We jsut waited.

On a whole, it is not a bad place to stay, for the price we paid and we would stay there again!

My friend and I just returned from Negril yesterday from a 4 day trip. I could not wait to log on to Trip Advisor and return the favor of providing great travel information about our first experience to Jamaica.

Foote Printes in the Sand was a wonderful budget hotel, we paid $500 per person for airfare & hotel. We decided not to spend extra on an all inclusive deal, and we were glad we didn't. The local fare was great and extremely accessible.

The hotel itself was decent for my taste, the room was simply decorated and clean (eg. bedsheets and tub). The A/C and satellite TV worked fine in our room, the staff changed our towels and made our beds daily. The outside of the hotel has been painted since the previous pictures I've seen on Expedia. The bright orange and yellow colors bring out the lush landscape that surrounds the hotel. The view of the beach from the hotel, is breathtaking and worth every penny. Each hotel has it's own section of the beach and Foote Prints' section is very cozy and quaint.

If there was anything we needed they were very accomodating if we asked. We needed our light fixtured fixed, the bulb was too dim and we also needed help making calls to the states. It was "no problem".

Since this was our first trip, I'm very happy with the way things turned out and I've learned alot for our next trip. Before leaving, I followed the advice of a poster on this site who recommended Juta Tours Negril LTD for our airport transportation. I went to the site and made reservations and we only paid $15 dollars pp each way...we heard some tourists paid $150 dollars pp (Ouch!)

I would definitely recommend turning some of your money into Jamaican dollars because it gets very confusing trying to make sure your not getting too taken advantage of with dealing with merchants. Although the exchange rate may be 65 JD to 1 American dollar they only recognize 60 Jamaican dollars to our dollar. Also, if you talk to the locals some will tell you what you should really be paying for things like cab rides. We were told that up and down 7 mile beach you should only be charged 50 Jamaican dollars. Which is less than 1 American dollar. Many cabbies will want to charge $5.00 US dollars to ride the beach, do so if you feel comfortable.

For shopping we went to Time Square which is a duty free shopping area, not far from the hotels. They have better prices for souvenirs than the merchants on the beach and the airport.

For meals and drinks we ate primarliy near Foote Prints. One place I must share with everyone is the Conch Hill Restaurant Natural Food Place Restaurante D'Andrea located right on Norman Manly Blvd. This place specializes in Jamaican and Italian fare. Everything is made fresh to order and definitely worth the wait, we ate there 3 out of 4 days we were there. The chefs are Andrew and Garrnett, Andrew lived in Italy as a chef for awhile and learned many authentic Italian dishes. They will place the tables and chairs right on the beach so you can eat right near the water if you wish. I will return to Negril if only to dine at Conch Hill. If you happen to make it there and I hope you do, tell Andrew that Dana & Verna sent you :-)

We also went to the overrated Rick's Cafe. It is a beautiful restaurant located on the cliffs, however the prices for everything are hugely inflated and after days of haggling about prices and such to go to an "American" spot and be charged "American" prices was enough. We ordered two frozen drinks that came out of a slushy machine for $14 dollars. We took pictures, listened to the live band, watched a cliff diver and left. Many love Rick's Cafe, I just didn't and probably won't return.

All in all our first trip to Jamaica was pretty incident free. My suggestions for going would be to exchange your spending money to Jamaican dollars and to bring BUG SPRAY, which is the one thing I forgot. Know what the locals pay and increase it slightly. Also, get to know the hotel staff they will usually tell you what you want to know. If you prefer to use American dollars which the locals do appreciate, don't bring anything larger than $10 dollars, maybe just $5 and $1's (for tips).

Oh, we were two ladies traveling and the men were something else, they are pretty aggressive in wanting to talk to you if they think you are available. And although we understand the tourism industry, it does get a little tiring of being asked to buy things every few steps on the beach. Other than that we were very satifised with our entire trip.

I hope this information helps! Thanks for reading!
