“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2010

We really enjoyed our two-night stay at Foote Prints. The location on the beach is perfect, and the grounds are very pretty. We were treated well by all of the staff. The rooms are a bit tired, but I expected that at this budget price, and the beds are nice and firm. We liked our 2nd floor balcony with a view of the gardens and a side view of the ocean. Our stay was part of a last minute package deal, where I paid a bit extra for the deluxe room.

There were many good options for food on the beach within easy walking distance. My husband and I were never uncomfortable walking on the beach, even late at night. Yes, you will be asked numerous times if you want to buy stuff (mainly ganje) but a No, thank you does the trick.

This was our first visit to Jamaica, and we found food and drinks on Negril to be the least expensive that we've found in the Caribbean (it might also have something to do with the current exchange rate). And unlike some other islands, Jamaca is large enough to produce a lot of it's own food, so you'll get plenty of local food. That, coupled with its history as a hippy hangout, mean it's easy to find vegetables. Don't miss the ackee and saltfish with callaloo while you're there -- the newly opened Miss Lena's just down the beach is a good place to get it (it's called the Jamaican breakfast -- but maybe they serve it for lunch, too??). It's worth the wait.

Given our stay was so short and car rental prices were reasonable, we opted to rent a car. Between driving on left hand side of the road, the narrow potholed roads, and the fast moving traffic, it's was a bit hairy and not for the faint of heart. I got the feeling that a lot of cars come back to the rental lot dinged up.

Do give Foote Prints a try.

We stayed in a kitchenette room right on the beach - our balcony looked out over the beach. The rooms could use some upgrades i.e. the cabinets are peeling a little, the countertops were cracked some, the backs of the blackout curtains were a little worn etc. That being said we thought it was totally fine. It was clean and spacious. We loved having the kitchenette in our room and actually used it a bunch to cook either breakfast or lunch. My husband got shocked by the electric stove a couple of times but when I reported it to the staff, they immediately got an electrician in to fix it.
The front desk staff were great, I believe it's just two very hard working women and they were very friendly and helpful.
The location is of course why you would stay here, it's amazing. You just can't go wrong being right on 7 mile beach.
My only real piece of advice would be about the cabs. All the hotels I have ever stayed at in Negril want you to take their recommended drivers. My advice is to never do this. They are significantly more expensive than if you just go out to the street and negotiate yourself.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. It's clean, safe and in a great location. If you think you are going to pay less than $100 a night right on the beach and get the Ritz, you are mistaken. If you want a clean, basic, safe place to stay, this is your place!

We loved staying at this hotel because it gave us the chance to eat at local restaurants and try local food. It wasn't an all inclusive resort, but we were still able to find what we needed and never had a problem with the hotel while we were there. It was nice to sleep with the windows open. The people are very nice and picked us up from our hotel.

My husband and I returned to this hotel for our third trip to negril last january(2009). This time we brought we brought friends along to see what Negril had to offer. If you are someone who likes all inclusive deals, instead of a real cultural experience, this place is not for you. If, instead you have an open heart and open mind to experience the real Jamaica, you will love it here. Foote Prints is a small family owned hotel who's staff is more than willing to accommodate and help their clientele. My husband and I know all staff by name at this point. We stayed at other hotels our first time in Negril and immediately saw the differencebetween Foote Prints and other places. We have exclusivelyonly only stayed here since then. The rooms are simple and clean and the staff is trustworthy and nice.

This hotel is in a perfect beach location. The rooms are very basic and lack the amenities of the larger more expensive properties. If you don't mind a basic value for the money, stay at Foot Prints. My room didn't have a clock or fridge nor was there an ice machine anywhere in site. Make sure to look out the window and think twice before you agree to stay in a room which faces the courtyard (utility trailer)between the buildings...you'll hear traffic and dream that you are sleeping on the highway. Overall a pleasant experience.

I have stayed at Foote Prints 5 times over a 4 year period, and although there is a need to refurbish the bar area. the hotel still has the same family atmosphere which I look for on holiday ( a home from home with spectacular views).

Where else in the world could you be on the beach within 10 steps (after paying only £24.00 per night) . The staff are fantastic and even planted a special garden for my birthday (if you are staying in room F3 look out on Elaine's garden) they will help you and support you on your holidays without taking advantage.

Most people I have met at Footprints are return visitors which also says a lot about the facilities. it is not 5 star (not even 3) but after walking along the beach through the imaginary wall which is the AI, I feel the hotel can offer so much more, you can meet the locals, engage in local culture ( walk along the beach towards Booby Car and meet Narnie a local Rasta who is possibly the "truest" person you will ever meet in Negril or anywhere. " on an evening we played dominoes and provided our own drinks at the bar, no pressure and typical of Jamaica it was "no problem".

The area also provides a plethora of local restaurants, which provide far superior food to the AI hotels. Look for the places that the locals use. Cool spot is really good (straight over the road from foote prints).

Finally and not least, on your arrival you will meet Micheal, he will look after all your needs as he covers the security and the maintenence within the hotel (a wonderful person , much respect)!

Not forgetting Andy (LOL) as much a part of the hotel as the bricks and mortar. Once seen never forgotten. Was such as MASSIVE part and always is during my stay at the hotel (see you soon)

Great familly hotel, no frills, no pretence just bloody good facilities at reasonable rates. love you and will keep coming back if things stay the same ( but could do with painting the bar)
