My fiance and I went to Firefly for 2 weeks early this month (October), it was exactly what we wanted! After a very busy summer we wanted a quiet relaxing place where we could sleep in, lie on the beach, go for long walks and swims and watch beautiful sunsets. Firefly gave us all of that, and more! We stayed in a quaint little cottage right on the beach. The room was spotless and very comfortable. We began each morning with a walk/run along the 7 mile beach. Negril beach is truly the best I have ever seen - fine white sand and crystal clear water. Who needs a swimming pool when you can dive into the Caribbean Sea? Then we had breakfast at Firefly's beach bar and then the rest of the day was spent lying under sea grape trees on the beach, swinging in the hammock and reading a good book. The staff at Firefly really made us feel at home. They were all very friendly and helpful, it really does have a family feel.

Our 2 weeks was up way too soon. I was very sad to leave and we can't wait to go back. We are actually considering having our wedding there on the beach!

Be careful what you look for, you may not get it. FIREFLY on Negril Beach sounded delightful, looked delightful from it's website...we like clothing optional, but didn't want Hedonism or any of the other packaged, processed resorts. We like to make our own way, like we do in the Greek Islands, coast of Turkey, Hawaii. I mention these to not so subtley indicate we ARE experienced travellers. But carefree, independent travel is NOT a good idea in Negril, as Firefly is a good example. Hottub hardly working, clothing optional beach means NO PRIVACY as ill mannered people walk by and stare down at you...and security at Firefly is a farce...we were attacked one evening out of the shadows from the derelict place next door to FIREFLY. We were saved by our own resistence and the timidity of the attackers. When told of this the management responded "Did our securiity guard help you?" The only time we had seen the fellow that turned out to be the security guard was when he was going into and out of one of the female manager's residence on the grounds...late night and early morning. In between, no appearance on the beach, that's for sure.

Prices were also high for what we got: a "chalet" type cabin behind the bar. $95.00 a night in August. AND we were charged twice for it, processed in the UK on our credit card. Took expensive phone calls on our part just to straighten it out.

Also be very careful of going round on your own. There's a great deal of animosity toward Americans due to our trade policies.

All in all, the word is be very careful, stay inside Beaches or Couples or whatever guarded enclave you choose. Negril's FIREFLY type of places can sting.

Whether you like to go nude or "prude" no one cares and/or discriminates here. You can do whatever you want to do, no one will question or criticize you for it. The service and staff are # 1 every one is really, really friendly, corteous and helpful. I could not ask for better service. Everthing was clean and kept up to condition. Beatiful 7 miles beach, crystal clear water and white sands everywhere.

After reading nothing but spectacular reviews of Firefly and the great service and wonderful staff I had my expectations set high as I looked forward to our first visit to this place. The reviews I have read were rather flattering and I am not sure what those writers were use to but this place has more than a few shortcomings . Ill list the ones that bothered me the most as the rest are not worth mentioning. We stayed in unit #17 on the 3rd floor of the penthouse this room has a full kitchen including a microwave and coffee maker The problem was both the microwave and coffee maker were unplugged and the only outlet was buried behind the refrigerator. The bathroom had NO outlets thus my wife had to dry her hair on the balcony. The steps leading up to the place had 8 1/4 risers and that may not seem bad but walking down these steps, barefoot while carrying anything, proved to be rather hazardous.
The hot tub is a residential type 220V SPA with a bottom that forced users to sit exactly they way the designer had in mind. The spa was virtually unused as I saw NO ONE in there during our 3 night stay. I t was nearly always covered with a $2 blue tarp that sagged into the water and looked like a poor mans hot tub cover. The place also had an excess of debris lying around that would only take a 60 yard dumpster and a few days to clear out of there. The place bills itself as nudist friendly but does not allow one to walk to the beach from your room naked yet you are allowed to use the hot tub nude and that is virtually in the garden where nudity is prohibited. The FREE coffee in the AM is INSTANT coffee however the place did serve sandwiches and pancakes in the morning that looked good. The rates are really low. And now I know why. The place is still a good deal given it is right on the beach and if your are expecting a very rustic, bare bones, room then you will get what you are expecting. I cannot speak for the other rooms as I never stayed in anything other than our room #17. The place falls short in my book for lacking attention to some of the most basic details.
