“North Pillar Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Paradise! This place is beautiful, romantic, and awesome. We stayed in the North Pillar, which had a beautiful view, we loved it! It doesn't have AC, in case you need that, but we were fine with the ceiling fan and a standing rotating fan. The queen bed was very comfortable and the pillows too. It is rustic and beautiful! The food is great there, but it was fun to venture out to the local places too. (Rock House Restaurant and Good Times). The North Pillar is close to the restaurant, and with a wedding party there that week, it got a little noisy some nights. We had two massages, that were Fantastic, they really were great! The staff works hard to make everything perfect, which it was. We would go back in a heartbeat. Ask Cody, the life guard, to dive off the cliff for you. So fun! We have stayed in all inclusive resorts, but loved this smaller quieter place. You won't regret staying here. Miss it!

Tensing Pen was fantastic. We were there for a wedding and had the Cove Cottage. We were greeted by the front desk staff, a cool towel and a rum punch. The staff really stands out...Razor, Malcolm, Tracy and the rest of the staff were fantastic, and that is what really makes Tensing Pen amazing.

Room Tip: Cove Cottage and any of the Pillar rooms all have great views.

We stayed at an all inclusive resort on the beach in Negril for our first half of our honeymoon & when we came to Tensing Pen for the last half (April 12-16), I almost cried it was so beautiful. It was sexier, quieter, more romantic, and way more peaceful. The perfect spot for our honeymoon. The rooms were rustic & exactly what I pictured a stay in Jamaica to be. The king bed slept very comfortably, the staff was very pleasant, and we had lots of privacy & relaxation. During the day we kept to ourselves, and at night, we chatted with other guests over dinner & drinks. I took part in the yoga class one morning (very relaxing & not difficult) and I regret that we did not take advantage of the spa services because I know they would have been perfect. I know we'll be back time & time again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sea Grape II due to the fact that it was one of the few with a king bed. Rooms on t...

Just stayed from 11 April through 14 April 2013 and had (per usual) an amazing time. We first found this place 8 years ago (before they even had a pool !) and keep coming back. Love it so much that we even had our wedding there 5 years ago. We have stayed in many of the various cottages and huts on the proprty. Do not believe what others wrote about not leaving your doors open at night. We have never colsed any doors or windows at night and have not had insect issues. The food is amazing and is probably one of the best dining venues in all of Negril. Jennifer does a fantastic job in the kitchen. Sheldon and Owen are friendly and attentive. It's like coming home to family. If you like a casual, laid-back place with breathtaking scenery, then this is for you. It is small and intimate. If you seek night life and beach activity then look elsewhere. We usually stay here for 3 nights or so when we travel to Jamaica then move on to the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall for a week. My husband loves golf so we spend a week at the Ritz because of the great courses in the area. He gets "antsy" chilling on the cliffs and needs to golf, otherwise we would stay longer. The water was a bit rougher than usual when we stayed so I only cliff jumped a few times. It is always a rush! It's fun to see newcomers get up the courage to take that first plunge. We always rent a car because it's nice to get out and see the sights of this beautiful island. I would suggest taking a trip to Parrottee Beach on the southern coast. Its a 1.5 hour drive to the beach. From there, you can take a boat out to Floyds Pelican Bar. This is a must-see spot as well. Very cool shack build on a sand bar in the middle of the ocean. We had a lobster lunch and cold Red Stripe miles off the coast without a care in the world. Nothing compares to Tensing Pen though. We have traveled to many islands and we keep coming back to Tensing Pen. We try to get there once a year and try a new island or spot in Mexico once or twice a year as well. We obviously love to travel. My only problem is that now it is getting more difficult to book the dates that we want. The word is out about Tensing Pen and the place books quickly because space is limited. Just left Tensing Pen last week and want to plan our return already. And we miss Sugar, Tensing and Beezy. All three dogs adopted us during our stay and slept in our hut with us every night. I was never a "dog person" and do not have pets, however, I have to admit that it was very nice to have these guys follow us around during our stay. With that being said, if you are unsure about Tensing Pen...don't be. You will NEVER regret your decision to book a stay there and will most likely be a return visitor.

This is a much different experience than you would get on the beach. Sometimes it seemed like you were the only ones there. Stayed April 10-17th. We were in the Cove cottage it was nice and very clean. The beds are really comfortable. But due to it's location, and surrounding vegitation, it gets very little breeze, and there isn't a mosquito net, so you really can't keep the doors open all night. This makes for a stuffy situation. We had to have both fans running full out every night. So instead of listening to waves, we heard fans. We asked if there was another room available after the first night, there wasn't. We did get the rock house 1 for the last night. What a difference, great breeze, no fan needed, kept the doors open, and the view !! I def would not get the Cove cottege in the summer, when it really is hot. I see no way you could be comfortable.
Other than that, the whole place was spotless, the food was always good, the staff was nice, the 3 dogs were fun to have around. Always felt safe out walking.
Was sad that I didn't get to snorkel once while there, but the ocean was rough the whole time. Tried swimming once and got beat to death, no fun.
Hire a driver and get out and see the island, and meet the people. We had a couples massage, was the best we ever had, really wonderful, their massage hut is really secluded, and hearing the waves just addes to it.

Room Tip: Cove Cottege will be too hot in the summer, no AC, no breeze

The accommodations are fantastic and the setting is second to none. It was so nice to have the quality accommodations, friendly staff, and good food in a place that never gets crowded. The setting on the rocks with access to the ocean gives you the best of Jamaica without the crowds at the beach.

We felt perfectly safe walking outside the resort and eating at the local vendors.

The food at Tensing Pen is great too. We never had a sub par meal and it was fun to watch them put out great food from the small, intimate kitchen.

If you want the action of the beach this is not for you. If you want to relax, have excellent staff, enjoy small venues, and want quiet lazy days, Tensing Pen is the place

We found the Tensign Pen to be the perfect match for us. We took both the South House 1 and 2 rooms for us and our two children. We loved jumping off the bridge and the cliffs into the ocean. The views were spectacular. Also, the restaurant for dinner was exceptional. We ate there several times during our stay and the quality of the food was better than we were expecting. There was almost no reason to go anywhere else.
