“They always are there for you!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012 via mobile

Nadine and Carolyn give you a sense before you even arrive that they understand "old school" service. On the property there was no request that was not attended to in a prompt, courteous fashion bringing the request to completion without ever asking twice. On the beach...clean...great food...and excellent service. What more can one ask for?

My wife and I just returned from another annual vacation in Jamaica ... and our 4th consecutive year staying at the Charela Inn. As stated in many of the previous reviews, the Charela Inn offers the best beach with great shade or sun options depending on your preference, excellent meals in their restaurant, good rooms with views and the great service from the tenured and caring employees keep us coming back.

The employees at the Charela are great and we look forward to reaquainting with them every year. From Carolyn at the front desk, to Minnel who takes your bags to the room and helps with your cab or travel needs, to Francella and Debbie who great you every morning for breakfast with a smile (over twenty years at Charela) to Anessa and Marci and team who provide the service over dinner ... and not to forget Clive who manages the Charela beach 6 days a week. Clive may be one of the more misunderstood personalities working at the Charela, but get to know him, and he is darn good in helping make sure your day in the sand is a great one.

Introduce yourself to him on your first day, let him know where you'd like your beach chairs ... full sun, full shade or in between. Provide an appropriate tip at that time and Clive will have your chairs in place, with towels, awaiting your arrival every day during your stay. He arrives before 6AM to manicure the beach and organize the chairs for all of the guests. If you enjoy throwing the frisbee or playing a game of 'corn hole' ... Clive will join you and showcase his frisbee skills ... or beat you at corn hole.

Room Tip: We like the 1st floor beach facing rooms due to the easy access to and from the beach ... but we alw...

This was out first trip to Negril and based on the reviews in TripAdvisor, we booked the Charela Inn and are very happy we did. We did have a room mix-up upon arrival which was very disappointing, but Carolyn did a great job of making things right with us and we ended up in a lovely sea-view balcony room which was fantastic. You have the option of going all-inclusive or going ala-cart as we did depending on your preference. The food is good and the man behind the bar is a very good man! And Debbie in the dining room with her smiling personality always added that special Jamaican element and made you feel more as family than as a guest. If your choice is to stay on the beach in Negril, then the Charela Inn should be at the top of your list.

Room Tip: We would suggest a sea view on the second floor, just for the privacy of not being in view of people...

Since a couple of years we come to negril. Now we see that many places are going down. No renovations, ownwers changed, some hotels lost their beach from erosion. Not so Charela: The owner family lives on the proberty and looks that everything goes well. They installed a new freshwater treating system. Their beach is unbeatable, with palmtrees for shade. They had a night security on beach- and frontside. The beachboy looks for the vendors not to hassle the guests. The kitchen is pretty good. Most of the meat, vegetables and fruits comes from their own farm. The stuff is friendly - some of them worked there for more then 20 years. In the future we will not go to other places. We will stay at Charela and take the ocean room and the MAP foodplan ( their 5 course dinner menue is fantastic). The Charela stays at the silent zone on the beach.

I kinda don't want to share, as been enjoying the peaceful tranquility of this intimate Jamaica Inn for 30 years, and it becomes more special as commercialism dominates the world. I share, as I want the wonderful staff to become prosperous. Only kind and generous guests need apply.

Room Tip: "On-line, bargain seakers", go to the big resorts. Charela has true "value", to...

My husband and I just got back from our trip in Negril, Jamaica and we went to this restaurant inside Charela because Frommers (our book on Jamaica) recommended it. In fact it is the first restaurant listed on the places to dine section. It said it had a french flair to it and it was expensive so we tried it and wouldn't recommend it. Our waiter didn't know what he was doing. I asked if he had champagne by the glass and he had to go and ask. When we asked what he recommended for an appetizer, he couldn't recommend anything. When asked what kind of fish was in the seafood sampler, he didn't know. The bread was flavorless and dry. For dinner, I had the lobster and my husband had snapper which were both overcooked and dry. The drawn butter was garlic butter. Our waiter did'nt know what the cake selection was on the desert menu so he had to ask. The chocolate cake was dry, cold, and the frosting was awful. The vanilla ice cream was equally as bad. Our bill was $100.00 and I was willing to spend $200.00. The price isn't the point, however the food quality isn't worth it. No french flair other than the french dressing that was served on the house salad, which by the way, the whole salad was room temperature, nothing like hot lettuce and dressing! The service was poor and clearly lacked any training. There are so many restaurants to have good service and excellent food in Negril. Don't waste your money here, the scenery isn't even worth it. There are plastic chairs on the patio! Sorry, but it's the truth. Go to Rockhouse Grille or Just Natural for dinner, ambiance, and great food.

My husband and I visited Charela for the third time this past December. The staff greeted us with a smile upon check in. The beach is the wide and deep. The hotel is so low key and relaxing. The restaurant is so well run with a great staff and service. The food is always fresh and well prepared. The Jamaican specialties on the lunch menu are excellent. We stayed in our usual seaview upper floor room.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are the best option

Charela Inn the discreet charm of peace & tranquility, good company and fine food. Nothing more ... nothing less. CHARELA INN resort sits elegantly on the famous Negril Beach, by the Caribbean Sea. Its forty-seven rooms and beach stretches 250 feet in width and 150 feet in depth of pure white sand sprinkled with coconut trees to afford natural shade to our guests. Beyond the sand lies a lawn and two large patios to dine "al fresco" or simply sip cocktails while watching the sunset. All 47 rooms are built around an inner court yard in an Hacienda style with a round fresh water swimming pool in the centre of the yard, and a lush tropical garden with hibiscus, night jasmine, bougainvilleas etc. as well as many birds including our national doctor bird. The feeling is one of being far from the crowds -- yet a few steps away from the world of water sports and many attractions on the seven mile beach. All buildings are of two floors. Each room has either a private patio or a private balcony. All public access at Charela Inn are designed to accommodate the physically impaired, along with three dedicated ground floor rooms.
