My Fiance (now Husband) and i travelled with our families to SATP at the beginning of January, 2007. There were 16 in total and not one of us had a complaint. I will catagorize my review.

Wedding - This is the whole reason all of us stayed at SATP. Originally I was kind of worried about getting married in Jamaica because it seemed I could never get a straight answer from the resort. I received very brief answers to my questions from Charm, the wedding coordinator, this left me uneasy. I decided not to worry about the small details until we arrived. This was the best decision ever!! Charm was fantastic and had everything ready and organised for us. We opted for the Beach wedding @ 4:00 p.m. This was perfect because the beach was close to empty so we did not have too many random people in our photos. The only problem was the pastor was 1hr late so this left my husband and family waiting on the beach for me and the BM's to affive. They did not mind though because the beach grill and bar remained open for them to drink and have a great time! The wedding was perfect and the ceremony after was wonderful! We set table up on the beach and they strung lights for us to be able to see. The cake and champaign was great! I never upgraded anything except ordering the bridesmaid flowers and I believe all in all we received a great value for out dollar. If you re thinking of a destination wedding, I could not recommend this resort more! If you'd like to see some pics or have any questions e-mail me at soxton@hotmail.com

The beach - The beach was a short walk from the resort...No problem mon!! We have walked further to the beach when staying ocean front at other resorts. The walk is not even worth worth worrying about! The beach is beautiful with no rocks or seaweed. The ocean is warm and calm, perfect for floating! The beach bar and grill were out of this world!

The food - All the food was great! Breakfast had everything you could want to eat! They had an omlette bar who's chef produced some of the best omelettes ever! Lunch at the Beach was amazing and the buffet was always appetizing! Supper was my highlight! The buffet always had a few favorites, but the a la carte was awesome! The food was cooked to perfection and the waiters very attentive. The portions could be quite small so do not be afraid to order a couple appetizers and even 2 main courses if desired!

Drinks - So gooooooooood!!! We tried everything and enjoyed everything! The Martini bar made fantastic Martinis and the Beach Bar produced some of the best Daqueris I have ever tasted! They use good liquor and do not have to worry about your drinks being "watered down", The bartenders learned us by name very fast and ensured we never had to wait for a drink! Talk to them and you will learn alot about Jamaican lifestyle!

Rooms - The rooms were amazing! The bathrooms were the best I have ever seen! If possible try to book in the new section and the older section rooms are not quite an nice. The older rooms may be lacking in upgrades, but they are still very habitable and cute!

Resort - The gym was amazing the tennis courts very well kept. The resort grounds were very well manicured and the staff very friendly!

All in all this was the best resort we have stayed at. We have been to resorts through out the Caribbean and SATP far exceeded all others!!

Happy Travels!!!

To all that have and will read more reviews before you arrive , you will have a feeling that may not occur anywhere else! Lynn(my wife) and I stayed from 02/09 TO 02/12 .While wishing it was longer, we are now making arraingmentsfor the same time next year and adding a couple extra days. Prepare to loose yourselves!
The flight , The bus ride , The open air lobby , The towels & punch , The room , the views, The veggetation , the beach , the bar , the pool , the outstanding foods , and last the staff...

Lynn and I went to places and areas that only the Discovery Channel would have access too. Just ask "Mon" and good "Tings" follow. We both are very sad today . A shout out to our down beach vendors
Mr. Feel-good(and we do not do drugs ; lets get that straight-),
who has the best crafts and attitude, told me to slow down"Big Frank" and called Lynn "Sexy Thang" .
Ricky & Marcus for getting us to Rick's Cafe, TheNegril market huts(respect) , The pirate caves completing the ride back with the sunset in 4 hours via their 16' "wooden" hand painted boat.

To our fave SATP staff (Rory/ bar & Kenroy /beach grill) , get the jerk-chicken and grilled snapper . try the dirty banana , rum punch & Stripes. A hello shout to "Corn-jerker" and clan; see ya next year , we'll always have the Pool!!!

Do it people and when leaving don't look back , you will return!

My wife and I just got home from a four night stay at Sunset at the Palms in Negril, Jamaica, February 3rd – 7th. We went there for a mini family reunion on her side – 4 sisters and 1 brother (out of 5 and 6) plus spouses coming in from various places in the USA. We are all 40-somethings.

Getting through the airport in Montego Bay was the most difficult part, not knowing exactly who to talk to about finding the airport to resort transfer bus. Lots of people willing to help, but you’re never sure who is for real and who is pulling your chain. This is my 3rd trip to Jamaica, so I knew what to expect.

We rode from the airport to the resort in a mini van with one of the other couples in our group and three single guys staying elsewhere. Took over an hour. The driver was very careful. My brother-in-law observed that “this guy is getting passed more than a joint at a Bob Marley concert”. At one point we pulled into a gas station for a fill-up and witnessed a fender bender right in front of us. After finally arriving right before dark, I spotted another brother-in-law, and quickly ordered up a cold Red Stripe to get me through the check-in process.

After that, everything was smooth sailing for the next 3 days. The ambiance, scenery, food and service at the resort were all great. We feasted breakfast, lunch and dinner. No crowds, no waiting at the buffet or the bar. Most of the clientele were 30s and older. No problems with the room, except for the bathroom door, but I think that was intentional – part of the rustic atmosphere. The gym was the best I’ve ever encountered at any hotel. We took a couple of excursions – one was a snorkeling, horseback riding, booze cruise on a catamaran that cost extra ($80 / person), and another trip into town for shopping - $50 to ride in a nice van split between 3 couples.

The included beach was a short walk across the main road. Very nice, clean area with lots of comfortable lounge chairs. No rocks or shells, only sand and palm trees, plus a good grill (burgers, jerk chicken, etc.) and the best bartender in all of Jamaica – Rory.

Our last night (Tuesday) we ate at the on-site formal restaurant. That was the best meal of the entire trip, served as several courses. We were serenaded by a Jamaican version of a barbershop quartet.

I wholeheartedly recommend Sunset at the Palms for anyone who wants to get away and relax without having to deal with crowds or wild partiers.

My sister, cousin, and friend stayed at the Sunset at the Palms from January 15-January 22 and had a blast. The staff was very friendly and resort was just beautiful. Despite a few sour guests, the other guests were friendly as well. Some people need to realize that you’re on vacation, relax no need to rush! The room and accommodations were just amazing; the best hotel room I’ve ever stayed at. The bed was confortable, the shower was awesome, but the patio was my favorite feature in the room. Make sure to request a room in the 400-700s.

DRINKS: The food and drinks were more than I anticipated for an all-inclusive resort. You would think the drinks would be watered down, not the case at all. The bartenders were very friendly, take a second and chat with them! I suggest ordering a shot of purple hoota or a mellow yellow from Esroy at the cocktail bar he is occasionally at the pool bar as well, and a round of Carribean shots or a “SEXY” from Rory at the pool bar and he is occasionally at the beach bar. They are generous with their alcohol and very pleasant to converse with. Be aware that things at the resort die down at around 11 but the pool bar is open till 1 am. We spent most nights closing down the bar and chatting with the bartender, which was as fun as going out. If you are really looking to party till the wee hours, I suggest going to the Jungle. They played a variety of great music.

FOOD: The beach grill was probably the best food. I could’ve eaten the jerk chicken every day. It was very convenient to have the beach grill and beach bar at the beach, especially cause we spent most of the day out there. The a la carte was awesome as well. The service was very relaxed. Don’t expect to be in and out. It was definitely a treat to have a nice sit down dinner and chat. I suggest ordering the Anglothai beef and order a hummingbird from Kenroy. The breakfast was good but there was little variation day to day. But I’m not complaining because I understand there is only so much you can serve at breakfast. Have Harland make you an omelet, you won’t be sorry. The buffet dinner was just as good as the a la carte. Between dinner pool side and dinner at the beach, the staff did a great job with providing a nice atmosphere. I cannot say anything about the lunch buffet because we spent most of our time at the beach and lunch at the beach grill.

SIDE TRIPS: Catch a ride from Benji! He was a great tour guide and cab driver. The best money spent was traveling to Mayfield falls. Be aware that the cab ride is a little long but only because the roads to get there were bumpy and very narrow. The water tour was awesome. For $15 you get an hour water tour and there were quite a few little waterfalls along the way to enjoy. You will not be disappointed!

For snorkeling, I suggest paying for it from one of the patrons on the beach. We went to Pirate’s Cave, which was an adventure in itself but you really want to see fish, it’ll be worth paying for. Pirate’s Cave is a restaurant and snorkeling is free. The catch is, you can either jump 20-30 feet into the open water or walk down these scary steps. Pirate’s cave is a great place to chat with the locals and have a wonderful lobster lunch.

TIPPING: Tipping is included in the package. We did tip our favorite staff members. We appreciated the wonderful service and wanted those to know they were doing a great job.

This resort is definitely not a party atmosphere. It is smaller than most resorts, which is great because we never had to wait for anything and noise was never an issue. The beach was always clean and never crowded. Unlike all the surrounding resorts, the beach was not littered with hundreds of beach chairs and tons of people. We walked along the beach to the other resorts and were not impressed! We all agreed that our resort was the best. The walk to the beach was not an issue. Dion the crossing guard always had a smile and kind words to say. I cannot say anything but good things about Sunset at the Palms and of Jamaica. I am convinced I have found my vacation spot. If you are looking for a fun, relaxing and all around great place to vacation this is the place to go and the place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at SATP's 1/27-2/1 with two other couples.
We found this resort to be everything we wanted and more! The grounds are beautiful and the staff very friendly. We had to request a room change the first day and it was taken care of without a problem.
The food was delicious and plentiful. We ate at Lotus twice without much of a wait and the food was very good.
It was not a problem that they did not have much entertainment. We would eat a late dinner and stop by the bar for a after dinner drink, and head back to our rooms. We were up early and ready to enjoy the day!
The beach is beautiful! No seaweed and plenty of loungers and shade areas. Don't let the fact that this property is not on the beach change your mind. Once you are there, it won't even matter. I posted a longer version on the forum page if you care to read more.
I would highly recommend this property and will be back to SATP"S
