My friends and I stayed at the Sunset at the Palms for six nights and seven days and we had the best time. The resort facility and staff were great. I felt the resort provided an awesome Jamaican experience ranging from its beautiful plants/flowers, tasty food, nightly events, music and friendly staff. We walked along the beach to observe the other resorts near by and noticed that Sunset at the Palms was much more personable and intimate. I would definitely stay at the same resort on my next trip back to Jamaica. One Love!!!

I agree with all that has been said about the resort. The food is well prepared, cabins comfortable, beach is very clean and staff are great, we had a fab time but just a few tips to you and to the Sunset Management.

1.Don't bother taking Jamaican money, as we did ,as the resort is only interested in the American dollar and the staff had to use a calculator to convert so we could pay. Take US dollars as you will get a better rate.
2. The reception staff let down the resort, apart from Sharon, they were unhelpful looked bored and spent all their time on the phone.
3. If you want to see the real Jamaica, hire a taxi guide and see this beautiful country.
4. Take STRONG insect repellent, the cabins are not protected enough to ward off insects when sleeping.
5. Its built on a very busy main road , so noise may be a problem, we got used to it. This means you are cut off a bit but most who stay there will just want the beach anyway.

Sorry it has taken me a while to write this review. I was there with my girlfriend and another couple (all in our 30's) for 8 days wrapped around New Years Eve (Dec. 26th - Jan 3rd) We used TripAdvisor to get all of our details on the property what a great site!! What a great hotel as well!!

I have to agree with most of what everyone has said in previous posts. The staff at the resort are wonderful and helpful. Since we were there for so long we decided that a tip for a few that were always waiting on us or helping us was the right thing to do. I know you don't have to tip but we thought that it was well deserved. For people that think the service is slow...well you are in Jamaica...and what is the hurry anyway? We felt that nothing took too long of a time to where it was annoying and that most of the time someone was there to help right away.

SATP is very laid back and relaxing. Lots of time for reading, chilling on the beach, and napping. Like people have said in many other posts....don't come for a huge party or games. I really enjoyed this aspect of the resort. If you do want some of that in your trip (which we did at points) we just left the resort and went to walk 7 mile beach to find something else to do.

The food....while I don't think it is 5 star and I wasn't expecting that...it was still very good......day to day some of the things stayed the same and some changed. Being there for 8 days we knew that there would be repeats and everyone was ok with that. The beach grill is good but we liked to go back to the resort for lunch because of the different variety....but both were very good.....the other dinner spot which is open a few nights a week has good food as well and we were there every night it was open and never had to wait. You can order two of something if you think the portions are too small. Everyone really liked the steak and chicken...

The rooms are great....the beds are big and comfortable, the shower is great (yes if you run 6 shower heads for a while you will run out of hot water...it makes sense though), the TV had a good number of channels....The one thing that is interesting is the bathroom door isn't really a door...it is more like slats......just an FYI

The walk to the beach isn't even worth talking about..it takes less than two minutes....the beach is always clean and it is nice that there aren't 400 people around you trying to get into the water or play games while you are trying to relax....the water is awesome....very calm, clear and warm....so take a raft to relax, lay around and take it all in...that is what it is all about....

let me start with "this is the most useful site ever if you are an avid traveller", thank you for your reviews!
we chose SATP for the awesome reviews we have read. for any other hotel you'll always get mixed feelings, this one... everyone loves! and to its justice!

we staied january 10th-18th. we were in cabin 404 and 503.
they are closer to the lobby yet still greatly quiet so we loved them! the grounds are out of this world. the rooms are as stylish, gorgeous and clean as you can immagine. the showers rock!
the outside nature sounds we miss a lot!!!!!

The staff is fabulous!

The beach is our next most important thing and i was worried since we were not right on the biggest stretch of the 7 mile beach but guess what... we did take a hike up the whole lenght (you do have to go through security checks and they wont let just anyone through i have a feeling) and went through also super expensive places like Beaches, Gran Lido, Heidoneism, couples and riu well... i do firmly believe that SATP has the best beach and is also the most beautiful hotel we walked through!
the fact that you have to cross the street to go to the beach is not even worth mentionning.

The Gym. we visited it every other day. "i had expected a nice gym for being jamaica" but this also was a great one even for american/european/asia standards... nice and cold inside! very nice! thank you!

got a massage. it was ok... but the location for it is beautiful... flowy flowy flowy! i'll post a picture!

i have not seen anyone tip the whole time we were there. we did tip our favourites a little bit at the end of the stay. no matter wether you tip or not the drinks are very generous!

we ate mostly at the buffet for lunch just because the variety is bigger and they have desert!!! but for a quick bite the beach grill is good as well... their fish is soooo fresh, the best!

the food. most people raved about it and i am not a picky eater but there were some days when it could have been better... but still, for being an all inclusive, it was good.

if you are looking for entertainment this is certainly not your place. they are trying to introduce a bit of it slowly and nothing that'd go until too late...

we are fish so we were in the ocean a lot. my husband got stung by a jelly fish but this is because we quickly learned that as soon as the sun starts setting you are not supposed to be in there, or at the beach as a matter of fact... those "no-see'ums" (as those sand flies are called) are brutal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a lot of people had bites. i guess the only thing that works is avon's skin so soft and some of "off's" products also mention to work on those.

we went on the catamarran ride to rick's cafe's diving for the sunset cruise... very very nice! the water is amazing... we danced, dove and had a great time!

we were put up at the beginning into the old cabins (the 100's) and now that's a whole other story... you certainly don't want to be there... the grounds are still beautiful but next to the road and the cabins are really run down... terrible. but i hear they are taking those down and remodelling them, much much needed!

the night restaurant. we never went there, we heard that the wait was crazy and that the food was little.

pool is small, just got into it for a quick drink and picture at the bar.

one piece of constructive criticism is that it would be nice to have fitted sheets on the beds and some bob marley songs at the beach would be nice as well but most places try to promote local new bands.

Thank you all and i hope this was good info for the next visitors at this exclusive hotel!

A group of 8 of us stayed at Sunset at the Palms in mid December, I was celebrating my 50th Birthday, and I have to say, I can not think of any other place I would have wanted to be.
I have traveled all over the Caribbean and Mexico, and this was my 8th trip to Jamaica. Being a former Travel Agent I have stayed in everything from Budget to 5 * Deluxe and more All inclusives than I can count. I have stayed at small hotels, and the huge Mega hotels, and there are things I like and dislike about both. But Sunset at the Palms has moved to the top of my list of favorite places. I have read all the reviews on this property and they have covered everything before, so I won't go on about the same things. Being a former Travel Agent, I had to come up with some things to improve on, and I came up with the following:
More light in the Rooms (it was hard to read in the room at night)
More CD's to play, i was thrilled that all they played was Reggae, but there is so much great Reggae, they could have played days of music without repeats.
A little more excitement in the evenings, when I was there they were trying several new things to see what worked the best, so they are on the right track anyway.
Lastly regarding the bug issue, I read so much about the bugs, I must admit I was a bit worried before I left. I have never even thought of bringing bug spray on any of my trips to the Caribbean or Mexico in the past, but this trip I came well stocked. I guess the people that are bothered about the bugs have not traveled to the Caribbean much, or maybe it is just that I live in MN where we have lots of Mosquitos, but I just did not even notice them, and I never ended up using the Bug Spray.
This property may not be for everyone, but it sure works for me.
I hope to return as often as possible.
