Just returned from SATP. This was our first trip to Jamaica and will not be out last! The staff at SATP are excellent...everyone was very friendly and willing to work hard to ensure that our stay was good. If you want a nice, small, and personalized vacation resort THIS IS THE SPOT. If you want a mega resort with multiple restaurants, long lines and piles of people then you will want to look elsewhere. SATP is set in a jungle and only has about 85 units available...it's well maintained, clean and nice throughout. The rooms are comfortable, all have A/C, nice beds, cable tv (you won't be in your room much). We went down for my daughters wedding, which was also handled by the staff at SATP...they did an excellent job with this as well!
Food was good to very good...buffet (breakfast/lunch/dinner) was consistent and varied a bit. Plenty of food and many options. The Lotus (fine dinning) was excellent...great service and great food in a much nicer setting than the buffet. The beach grill was good and nice to have right on the beach...good variety of grilled items like burgers, chicken, fish, french fries.
The service can be a bit slow at times, but hey, you're on the beach in Jamaica so what's the rush! The beach is excellent...new lounge chairs, clean sand, crystal clear water...you can snorkel, kayak, paddle boat, swim, relax or hire a jet ski (expect $80 per hour), hire a boat to take you out to snorkel or fish (ask the guys on the beach and they will help you...Omar and Randy took great care of us and set us up with Henry to go out fishing, down to the caves, snorkeling, over to Ricks.
Be sure you have bug spray and sunscreen...bug come out about the time the sun goes down and they will eat you up...best to be off the beach by then (it closes at 7PM anyway). If you don't like the sound of the jungle (frogs/crickets/birds) then you need to stay someplace other that SATP...the jungle comes alive at night...really fun and cool!
To get from Montego Bay to Negril you will need to hire a ride or taxi...I worked with ESPARANZA TOURS - $20 per person each way and Patrick and Donovan will be sure you have a couple of Red Stripes on ice for your ride down. Takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes each way.
DO NOT let anyone tell you that you need to go to the craft market...unless you like to feel like a piece of meat being picked clean by vultures. All the stalls have the same stuff and you will be chased down by each vendor...the hour or so we spent there was the worst hour of our entire trip. There is a good golf course (Negril Hills) near SATP and they offer a free shuttle from the resort (just ask the front desk)...a round of 18 will cost you about $130 including clubs/cart/caddy/greens fee. Fun, but challenging course (lots of hills). So...if you like a small, more exclusive resort, no crowds, good food, plenty to drink, nice beach, friendly staff and an overall enjoyable stay...SATP is it!
