“AAAA-MAZING Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Rockhouse is situated in the most beautiful spot in all of Negril. Pristine Cove is absolutely stunning. The water is crystal clear, and the lush surroundings are beautiful. The grounds are kept up quite nicely. You will not find a more beautiful spot!

We stayed in Villa #17 for 3 nights. The villa is a little rustic, but served it's purpose. We were very happy with our accommodations, but don't expect luxury! The outdoor shower was amazing!!! The bed linens and pillows were nice as well.

Most of the staff were very friendly and gave us great service. A special mention to Vinroy and Chevon at the pool who were great every time we were there. They were very attentive. They always remembered our names and room number, and knew what we wanted to drink (sometimes before we even knew what we wanted!). Richie and John at the main restaurant were fabulous as well. They were both very friendly and made an effort to get to know us.

In stark contrast, Adrian and Leo were the total opposite. It was difficult to get their attention; they always seemed too busy to serve us even when there was no one around. Adrian was quite rude to myself and a few other guests and seemed put out to have to serve us drinks. I also had the unpleasant experience of dealing with them at Pushcart, where they seemed more interested in chatting with eachother, checking their cell phones, eating and getting drunk on the job than serving the customers.

I would like to thank this guest for writing a review on Rockhouse and for the feedback on the beauty of Rockhouse and the surrounding crystal-clear water of Pristine Cove where we are located.

At Rockhouse we consider providing exceptional customer service as an integral part of our commitment to providing our guests the absolute best possible vacation experience. Any service deemed as less than exceptional is a deviation from our service commitment and for this I must apologize on behalf of the two team members named in this review. I have personally met with each of them and discussed the aspects of their service styles that (unbeknownst to them) could have been interpreted as poor, inattentive and rude. They have both recently received further customer service training by a top-rated training team on the island and both have personally re-committed themselves to working at our high standards at all times while on the job at Rockhouse.

I do hope that this guest will return to Rockhouse someday and see that the poor service experiences were really the exception and not an ongoing service style for these team members.

Look no further for a unique communion with the sea and sky. My wife and I visited last week for a much needed respite. The grounds and service at the Rockhouse exceeded our expectations. The place has a great vibe and is absolutely gorgeous. Some of the villas are literally at the water's edge, albeit 20-30 feet up. Waking up in the morning with a splash literally a few steps from the bed is a treat. The room was comfortable; we didn't leave it much thanks to the well-stocked refreshments and timely room service. Staff are friendly and attentive when engaged. Beautiful views. Party boats en route to Rick's Cafe stopped for snorkeling at the cave underneath the Push Cart restaurant on the western end of the property each afternoon but were not bothersome. Rockhouse guests seemed to be mostly couples unwinding. Found out later that our villa neighbor was reggae songstress Lady Saw (perhaps most known outside Jamaica for accompanying Gwen Stefani in "Underneath it All." Great theme song for a renewal of wows with your loved one. Food at the main restaurant-- perched above an illuminated cove in prime position for sunsets-- was good, with local fare like the curry conch, coconut snapper, akee, and oatmeal/plantain porridge taking it up a notch. Go for jerk from the grill at the Push Cart, with live music nightly from 7-8. Favorite drinks at the pool bar: fresh coconut water for hydration, Stingrays (rum, grapefruit soda, & lime) for attitude adjustment. Prices were most reasonable, even at the spa and, for the most part, the boutique. Good clothing and toiletries selection there. Spa treatments were fantastic. Highly recommend the hot stone massage- make it the long one! Recommend a rejuvenating stay here without hesitation- make it a long one! Hats off to the management and staff.

So pretty and serene. From the front of the hotel, you can't tell the beauty that awaits. When you go to the back of the hotel, you see the water crashing up onto the rock cliffs that the hotel is built on. There is an infinity pool and it is just gorgeous. There are also single huts that jut out and you can get private massages in there. It's surreal. I would def go back here. It is very romantic, so I don't think this is where you would go for a social trip. The rooms are also very Caribe with the mosquito nets and shutters. They have a room where you can use a computer.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Rockhouse for a night in the standard room. The property is super cool and feels like you are in a lush, exotic location. The room was reminiscent of a tree house due to the dark wood and mosquito neck on the canopy bed. Just a side note, the bathroom and shower are small which was a not a big deal. The room was comfortable, had A/C and quiet but lacked a TV. This resort lends itself to relaxation, peace, and quiet. The property is quite large with two main restaurants and a poolside grill. The food in the main restaurant was fine and medium priced. The food at the “Pushcart” restaurant is authentic Jamaican, was good and normal priced for resort food. What is pretty cool about the hotel is that you are able to jump off some parts of the cliffs into the water and enjoy snorkeling in deep water in the designated swimming area. The swimming area is very large and enjoyable, another great thing about it since it is on hotel property there are not vendors/merchants asking you to buy things or rent jet skis, etc. It is just cliffs, water, and reefs that you can swim around and see! The deluxe rooms on the water have their own area with lounge chairs and some of them you can jump right off into the deep water! I would absolutely stay in these rooms upon my next visit. Another thing to note is that this property is in the cliffs and is not too far from Rick’s café. It is about a 15-20 minute car ride to the beach area and does not have as many things going on as the beach area does. Overall the property was very good and I recommend it for those seeking a relaxing time with a little bit of adventure.

The Rockhouse was the perfect destination for our "relax, recover and recharge" focused vacation. We specifically came to Jamaica to stay at the Rockhouse- and we absolutely fell in love with our Villa (#15), the staff, the layout and food. TV and Internet free (although you can access internet if you want to for a fee), we were able to disconnect from the world and really enjoy.

During the day we spent much of our time jumping into the beautiful ocean and snorkel around for hours- the coral reeves are spectacular. The food at the Pool was perfect for lunch (the jerk chicken outstanding), and both the Rockhouse Restaurant and the Pushcart were great for dinner. We did not have one complaint about the food or drinks while there. We loved ordering coffee to our room in the morning while looking at the ocean and enjoying the warm weather.

The staff were extremely friendly and we really enjoyed their company and great sense of humor. Although tip is included (10%) when staying at the Rockhouse, we felt it was nice to give them some extra cash tip- and they very much appreciated that.

There is no doubt we will be back to the Rockhouse- it was a wonderful and rejuvenating time.

Room Tip: choose a Villa by the water- worth every penny

The Rockhouse is a beautiful property, and the pictures are pretty on spot. In terms of the hotel grounds, what you see online is what you'll get. The surrounding waters are clean, crystal blue, and a consistently easy swim (no surprising currents or anything). Although we didn't stay there, we went to Tensing Pen for a few meals and we thought the pool and surrounding waters were nicer at Rockhouse.

Service averaged from unremarkable to very good, including service at the pool. We had much better meals at the Pushcart Restaurant, especially for the vegetarians in our group (if you're vegetarian, check out the Hungry Lion just down the street). The room (we stayed in Villa 12) was alright; clean and well-maintained, but a little dusty and dated around the edges. Little details, like old towels and pink mold on the old shower head and some tiles took away from the "boutique luxury" feel (maybe there's not supposed to be one here?). I think it's worthwhile asking for certains rooms over others at this place; see my room tips.

Morning outdoor yoga (free on Mondays) was pleasant, although aimed towards beginners and non-practitioners. We didn't have a problem with misbehaving kids during our week there, but we also noticed that the Rockhouse sometimes bent its rules on the ages of guests.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 12 (a villa), which is right next to the restaurant but was surprisingly very quie...

After a cold and bitter fall we decided to spend Christmas is sunny Jamaica. We had heard from our friends "in the know" that The Rock House was THE place to stay in Negril. Our friends were spot on. The location amidst the rocks was perfection. I was afraid I would miss a sandy beach to relax on, but I have to say, I didn't even think about sand while I was there. I was too busy jumping off cliffs into the crystal water, relaxing on our private cabana terrace, and going for a dip in the salt water pool. The best thing about the Rock House is how they have enough common outdoor space for all visitors to have a spot. There is always a pool chair available, always a rocky nook tucked away with chairs and umbrella to enjoy a red stripe with your companion. I have travelled enough to know how unpleasant it is to have to set an alarm clock to stake your claim of pool chairs. This does not happen at The Rockhouse.

In addition, both restaurants are delicious. We frequented the Push Cart more often as we loved the casual vibe and live music. We took advantage of the morning yoga classes, the fantastic spa, and the beautiful well maintained grounds. We also met many of the other guests which is not something we typically do on vacation. Artists, fashion designers, music industry types- all like minded creatives that had made Rockhouse their Christmas tradition. It may become our new tradition as well.

Room Tip: water front bungalows are ideal, but I have to say I don't think there is a "bad" room...
