My husband and I stayed at Breezes Grand Resort in Negril for 7 nights celebrating my husband and a close friend's 40th birthdays. We did a ton or research and read hundreds of reviews before we chose this resort and we were not disappointed! They really do have the best beach in Negril from what we saw. We walked the entire stretch of beach that we had access to almost daily. There were several other resorts that we walked by including 2 Riu's, Sandals, Beaches, and the Couples resort immediately adjoining ours. Breezes had the finest sand and best set up for beach chairs with coconut trees interspersed for shade. The water sports department was on the beach every morning cleaning up all of the debris that washed up on shore during the night, raking the volleyball area daily and constantly patrolling the beach for empty cups and other garbage. There is also a beach bar at each end of the beach and a larger bar in the middle with friendly people taking your order every few hours and bringing drinks. We spent all of our beach time at the end of beach that met with the nude section of Couples because our rooms were directly up from that stretch. It was so convenient to be able to just walk up the beach through a small patch of grass to access your room. We felt 100% comfortable leaving our French doors open all day long as did many other people. The clothing optional section of Breezes was at the opposite end of the resort. We did walk over there a few times but I always felt like we were intruding and should be naked if we were there. So it was just a quick stroll through and then back to the main beach. There is a very nice quiet hot tub in this section though that we went to twice. There was never anyone else in it or anywhere to be seen.
As far as water sports we were only able to take advantage of the boat ride out to the reef for snorkeling once because the water was too rough the rest of our stay. They had the red flag posted on the volleyball net several of the days we were there. It was too wavy and murky for the glass bottom boat because of this also. The snorkeling was a one hour trip with 15 min there and back and 30 in the water. We did see some interesting fish and nice coral formations but nothing spectacular. They also had kayaks, catamarans and sunfish's available.
On a whole the food was very good. There was always a wide variety at the main cafeteria for lunch and breakfast. The omelet stations were a very popular choice. There was always several choices for meat at lunch. Typically a fish, chicken, and pork cooked differently. Lots of great jerk flavored recipes, salad bar and fruit bar, stir-fry area, and dessert bar. Plenty of food available with vegetarian choices also as a friend in our group is a vegetarian. Try to sit close to the water/juice station for the best drink service. We got stuck behind a pole once and were invisible to the staff. When I went over to ask for water I realized that they actually couldn’t see us from the station because of a pole and large plant.
The Grand Cafe was great with a menu that changed frequently for dinner. We ate there twice. The Japanese restaurant was also very good but allow a lot of time. We had an 8:30 reservation and didn't actually eat till about 9:30. It was a fun atmosphere but chilly until they turned on the large grill. Very good food. The French restaurant also had very good food but was very cold inside and had a musty smell. We spoke to the manager and he was very accommodating and set us up outside the restaurant were it was open to fresh air. We did not eat at the Italian restaurant because the menu didn't seem to change and we weren't interested in what they offered.
There was always some form of entertainment or game going on somewhere on the resort. There was a band every night in the main hall. There is a piano bar that offers music, karaoke, and sing-alongs alternating nightly. The disco was always empty, cold, and smelled like it had suffered water damage. The entertainment staff are all very friendly and talented people. They routinely walked around to people asking if you needed anything and if you were having a good time. They put on amazing dance and singing shows. Judine had an amazing voice and Chadrick had more energy than anyone we had ever seen. He was an excellent dancer too!
We did leave the resort on 3 occasions. We walked across the street through the Hedonism resort to access the 7 mile stretch of beach and watch the sunset. This was interesting but we realized how much nicer our stretch of beach was. We took a taxi to Rick's Cafe for some drinks and appetizers while we watched the sunset and cliff divers. Very fun place. Great atmosphere. Our cab ride with Roger was only $10 per person round-trip instead of the $25 the resort charged for a shuttle. Roger gave us a great tour on the way there and waited for us in the parking lot, giving us the freedom to stay as long as we wanted. We also took a taxi to Margaritaville with Roy. He charged us $30 for 4 of us instead of the $44 it would have cost us through the resort shuttle but again we had the freedom to stay as long as we wanted. He gave us a cell phone to call him when we were ready to leave. Both taxi rides were very enjoyable and both drivers very honest and friendly. Overall, a great experience at a great resort.
