“The best beach in Negril”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2011

My husband and I stayed at Breezes Grand Resort in Negril for 7 nights celebrating my husband and a close friend's 40th birthdays. We did a ton or research and read hundreds of reviews before we chose this resort and we were not disappointed! They really do have the best beach in Negril from what we saw. We walked the entire stretch of beach that we had access to almost daily. There were several other resorts that we walked by including 2 Riu's, Sandals, Beaches, and the Couples resort immediately adjoining ours. Breezes had the finest sand and best set up for beach chairs with coconut trees interspersed for shade. The water sports department was on the beach every morning cleaning up all of the debris that washed up on shore during the night, raking the volleyball area daily and constantly patrolling the beach for empty cups and other garbage. There is also a beach bar at each end of the beach and a larger bar in the middle with friendly people taking your order every few hours and bringing drinks. We spent all of our beach time at the end of beach that met with the nude section of Couples because our rooms were directly up from that stretch. It was so convenient to be able to just walk up the beach through a small patch of grass to access your room. We felt 100% comfortable leaving our French doors open all day long as did many other people. The clothing optional section of Breezes was at the opposite end of the resort. We did walk over there a few times but I always felt like we were intruding and should be naked if we were there. So it was just a quick stroll through and then back to the main beach. There is a very nice quiet hot tub in this section though that we went to twice. There was never anyone else in it or anywhere to be seen.
As far as water sports we were only able to take advantage of the boat ride out to the reef for snorkeling once because the water was too rough the rest of our stay. They had the red flag posted on the volleyball net several of the days we were there. It was too wavy and murky for the glass bottom boat because of this also. The snorkeling was a one hour trip with 15 min there and back and 30 in the water. We did see some interesting fish and nice coral formations but nothing spectacular. They also had kayaks, catamarans and sunfish's available.
On a whole the food was very good. There was always a wide variety at the main cafeteria for lunch and breakfast. The omelet stations were a very popular choice. There was always several choices for meat at lunch. Typically a fish, chicken, and pork cooked differently. Lots of great jerk flavored recipes, salad bar and fruit bar, stir-fry area, and dessert bar. Plenty of food available with vegetarian choices also as a friend in our group is a vegetarian. Try to sit close to the water/juice station for the best drink service. We got stuck behind a pole once and were invisible to the staff. When I went over to ask for water I realized that they actually couldn’t see us from the station because of a pole and large plant.
The Grand Cafe was great with a menu that changed frequently for dinner. We ate there twice. The Japanese restaurant was also very good but allow a lot of time. We had an 8:30 reservation and didn't actually eat till about 9:30. It was a fun atmosphere but chilly until they turned on the large grill. Very good food. The French restaurant also had very good food but was very cold inside and had a musty smell. We spoke to the manager and he was very accommodating and set us up outside the restaurant were it was open to fresh air. We did not eat at the Italian restaurant because the menu didn't seem to change and we weren't interested in what they offered.
There was always some form of entertainment or game going on somewhere on the resort. There was a band every night in the main hall. There is a piano bar that offers music, karaoke, and sing-alongs alternating nightly. The disco was always empty, cold, and smelled like it had suffered water damage. The entertainment staff are all very friendly and talented people. They routinely walked around to people asking if you needed anything and if you were having a good time. They put on amazing dance and singing shows. Judine had an amazing voice and Chadrick had more energy than anyone we had ever seen. He was an excellent dancer too!
We did leave the resort on 3 occasions. We walked across the street through the Hedonism resort to access the 7 mile stretch of beach and watch the sunset. This was interesting but we realized how much nicer our stretch of beach was. We took a taxi to Rick's Cafe for some drinks and appetizers while we watched the sunset and cliff divers. Very fun place. Great atmosphere. Our cab ride with Roger was only $10 per person round-trip instead of the $25 the resort charged for a shuttle. Roger gave us a great tour on the way there and waited for us in the parking lot, giving us the freedom to stay as long as we wanted. We also took a taxi to Margaritaville with Roy. He charged us $30 for 4 of us instead of the $44 it would have cost us through the resort shuttle but again we had the freedom to stay as long as we wanted. He gave us a cell phone to call him when we were ready to leave. Both taxi rides were very enjoyable and both drivers very honest and friendly. Overall, a great experience at a great resort.

The food was excellent. We enjoyed the buffet and all the speciality restaurants.
The check in at the airport was excellent and the front reception desk did everything in an very efficient manner.
The beach and resort were very clean. Lots of beach chairs and activities if you choose to join in.
Thank you for an excellent holiday

This resort is still one of my favorites. It should be undergoing upgrades to the rooms soon if they want to continue getting good reviews. The rooms aren't in poor condition but rather just showing their age. I hope they address this soon.

The food was great along with the service.

We had some minor issues that required maintenance and they were very prompt and fixed our problems quickly.

As usual there were some standout employees that made the vacation special. Paul, the restaurant services manager deserves top marks. He is a hard working man. Some of the lower level workers such as Jerome at the breakfast buffet and Derrick at the C/O grill were always performing at a high level. Finally, Gloria, the hardest working security guard in the place who did her best to keep undesirables away from the C/O side.

I'm not sure why but they've made a half-hearted attempt at a towel card system. I don't know how this can work when no one is watching the towels and anyone can just grab as many towels as they need anytime. Ridiculous. Just make sure you have two cards or 2 towels at checkout or you will owe $20.00 each.

We love this resort and will continue coming back. The cozy cove area is an ideal place for an au naturel pool and beach. Unlike Couples next door who literally have about a 100 foot stretch of clothing optional beach sandwiched between the Breezes prude beach and Couples prude beach. Imaginary lines of segregation not too conducive to baring all.

We highly recommend!

Feb 4 - Feb. 11/2011 - Excellent holiday. There was confusion in the room we requested, but after one night, Monique (front desk supervisor) had us moved to the ocean view room we wanted, GREAT, thanks Monique. Buffet (Paul Ritchie) was great. The food could have been hotter, but the choices we made we were very happy with. The selection for us was great. Reggae Cage, got off to a rough start, but once Nicole showed up to work it was GREAT!! If having burgers, ask for them well done and they are great. ENTERTAINMENT!- was spectacular, Shadrick , Francois and the ladies were GREAT!! BEACH: can not be beaten in Jamaica, fabulous and clean. Tyrone, you were awesome. ROOMS: very clean and spacious. Sonicka and Mitzie thank you for the wonderful service. MASSAGE: ladies and gents you need to try the early bird special, fantastic, thank you Jasmine & Brenda. We have been travelling to different areas and resorts, we loved this place. The pool was small, but when you have a huge beautiful ocean, who needs a pool. Chukka Zipline! GREAT! The overall experience was great, and thank you to all of the staff, that made it possible. We will definetely return, but next time for 2 weeks. THANK YOU !!!!

We stayed here for 6 nights in late Jan/early Feb 2011, and 4 nights in January 2010 - in the intervening year we felt that the hotel had gone downhill and now needs to address some issues in order to justify the price and improve the guests experience.
The decor is becoming tired in places (we had assumed this would be improved after the change of name in early 2010). The service in the buffet area and the beach bars seems to trail off after a smiling sunny start for a couple of days- possibly once the staff get the message that no tips will be given. Charging $15 per day for wi-fi is outrageous, especially when it is offered free in many other much cheaper hotels throughout the island. We always drink a lot of water; this year bottled water is only available at the bars and only 3 small bottles are provided daily in the minibar, although our note requesting extra was acted on. Our aircon sounded alternately like a waterfall or a tractor, and the hot water in the bathroom was sometimes only lukewarm - the water pressure always being too low to use the side jets of the shower. The balcony was barely big enough for two small chairs.
On the positive side - our room was a good size as was the big bed and having a safe in the room was useful. We ate in the French restaurant, and the food in there was marvellous, a different class from the rest of the eateries - although The Grand Cafe was also very good. The Italian was average. The breakfast and lunch buffets are good although we imagine the lunch one would become tedious after a few days. The omelettes at breakfast and pasta at lunch, both made whilst you wait were our favourites.

It is not a dreadful place, some of the public spaces are lovely and the beach is clearly wonderful- it is just that for the price it seems to fall short, and was certainly less pleasurable to stay in this year than last.

We normally stay in smaller locally owned and run hotels, and only came to stay here both times as the wonderful Gov't Mule had taken over the resort for their "Island Exodus" - which was a wonderful experience marred only slightly by the hotel chosen in which to host it. After some of our group had departed, the hotel reverted to what was presumably its more normal schedule, which unfortunately included the emergence of in-house entertainment. Who on earth wants to pay this sort of price and then endure cheesey loud quizzes and embarrassing audience participation games - on one occasion you could not escape this as it was happening in the main dining area which was the only place serving food at the time. It was an unpopular move with everyone we spoke to about it and perhaps betrays a misreading of the clientele by the new Breezes management.

My husband and I stayed here from the 12-19th of January. From the minute we reached the resort we knew that we were somewhere special. We were walked through the great hall (breathtaking) and seated in the lobby with a cool drink in hand to register. We were escorted to our room (upgraded just because they had it ) and shown all the places to eat on our way. When we arrived to our room, stunning view, we were located on the beach, our bags were already in our room. Within a half hour of arrival we were sitting in the dining room having lunch and a glass of red wine. The staff were all so warm and friendly everywhere, even the dining room at its busiest! The food in the buffet was delicious, lots of choices for brekfast and lunch. Phillip and Vanessa took good care of us every morning. The buffet is opened for dinner on Mondays and Fridays and it is amazing. Monday is beach party night and the food is cooked and served at the beach. They spend all day moving barbecues, bars, tables and chairs and setting everthing all up.The food was awesome, seafood dishes, fish, lobster and lots of choices for people that don't like that stuff. Fri. is the Manager's Gala and once again what a production, there was food everywhere, awesome! Those 2 nights, only the Reggae Cafe (Jamaican food) and the Italian Restaurant are open for those who prefer not to eat at the buffet for dinner. All the other nights there are 5 restaurants to choose from, French, Italian, Continental, Japanese and Reggae Cafe (this opens from 12:30 pm - 2:00am daily). We went there most days for lunch because we love Jamaican food. The Jerk chicken and pork was the best I have ever eaten, my husband loved their patties and lamb chops, the coco bread was awesome along with everything else because we tried it all excepting the burger and fries, I can eat that in Canada.I ate a variety of their soups including goat soup, fish soup once again so delicious. Patricia waited on us everyday she was so nice. We spent our days relaxing on the beach where Camiel from the beach bar took good care of us, what a sweeheart, I wanted to bring her home with me. When we weren't relaxing we were walking on the beach 2 miles one way and access through Heidonism next door got you on 7 mile beach. It was awesome, we loved it at this resort and in this area, We will be going back. I read the reviews before going and was a little nervous about the noisy road, but I am a light sleeper and I never heard a thing from the road at night. It was busy during the day but I am not in my room during the day and when I went in to change it was no noisier than home. This is an absolutely beautiful, large property and we went on many long evening strolls on the grounds.I can't say enough good things about this resort. Can't wait to go back! Leslie
