Airport to resort Transportation....BAD:
... I will not go back to Jamaica to any resort without their own transportation & lounge. What a Nightmare. Hot & Long lines to check in with Jamaican Travel. Finally checked in; then another 1hr 1/2 before our bus departed the airport. We stopped at 4 resorts before ours. More delays. About 5hrs after landing we finally made the resort.
Went fairly smooth only 20-30 min for check in. There are lots, & lots of stairs at this resort. We rolled our 2 carry-ons to the room. Bellman rolled 2 other pieces of luggage. up & down stairs, & we are on the 1st floor! And we tipped him for this?
We had a Jr. Suite Cove. Room was nice, but like most tropical resorts it could us a few updates. Raised, corner Jacuzzi tub & shower not easy to maneuver. Don't try this after drinking all day. Could be dangerous! They had to change our refrigerator out after the first night, it was freezing up & stopped working. No problems, called next day & had a new one brought in. Yes, it had beer, soda, & water.
When we booked they advertised Buffet, + 5 restaurants. No reservations required...Wrong.. Of the 5, 2 require reservations, Japanese & French. However the French does requires long pants for men. We managed to slip in a vacant spot twice at the Japanese. Hint: our chief only knew how to cook Well done steak. Had the same guy 2 times. Oh, well!
The Buffet was open Breakfast, & Lunch everyday. Breakfast was great! Don't think we had lunch there but 1 time. Mainly snacked for lunch at the Cove.
2 nights the Buffet was open out of the 6 night stay. Gala Night, & Beach Party. ( Rain 1/2 thru dinner on the beach & all had to move inside. Mother nature sent us some rain. Loved the buffets when they where available.
We actually look forward to a Buffet in the evening. Eat a little, or a lot. Sample new foods, etc. Do not want to have a set down order from a menu dinner in a resort. But that is just us others may like being waited on & choosing from a menu.
Not much of that during the day, & only had a floor show 2 nights. House band was good, but same stuff every night. Gets old after 3 nights. Finally went to the Piano Bar & enjoyed!
We played pool volleyball most everyday. We had no staff to thank for that. We put the games together ourselves. Like I said we made our own entertainment.
Yes, Sun Wing has lots of reps on the property, offering different perks for spending 90 min. listening to their spill. We booked for breakfast but never met with them. Did not want to take time from the beach for something we where not interested in.
We have been to Jamaica 15 times, this was our Anniversary & reservations stated that. We received NOTHING. Not even a card, letter anything recognizing our special occasion. Thank you very much Grand Lido.....for NOTHING!
Also, there where a group of travel agents visiting while we where there. I was asked what I thought of the resort. Asked her if she wanted my honest answer, she said yes. I pretty much told here what I just wrote.
In fact my travel agent asked in an e-mail how things were going. Told her NOT so great. She wanted to move us to another resort. We told her we would stick it out, we only had 2 nights left of our vacation.
Would we return to Grand Lido Negril, NO. To many resort to choose from that offer so much more for your money.
