My husband and I decided to stay at Hedonism on this latest trip to Negril after visiting it with a night pass last summer. Let me start off by saying that check in was was big mess and that after traveling the whole day to get to the resort I was not in the mood for that. When we arrived all the people who were in out taxi were checked in in a flash, not us! It took almost an hour for them to check us in despite us having reservations for well over a month. The problem was that they said they didn't have any rooms on the Prude side even though that is what we had requested when we booked. They said it was because of the remodeling but when we asked why they didn't tell us that at the time of the reservations we just got a blank stare. Anyways after standing our ground on getting a room on the Prude side they finally gave in and upgraded us to a ocean front room on the ground floor on the Prude side so I was happy with that. The room only had twin beds but they assured they would fix that and they did, very promptly. The room itself was nice enough but it was always freezing in there no matter what we lowered the ac too but if you turn it completely off it got to hot to fast so we just chose to be cold. Sometimes we would open the windows to try and warm it up but then bugs would fly in. The bathroom was decent and the shower had okay pressure but the water never really got past lukewarm, I love to take hot showers but I adjusted. I would HIGHLY recommend that women bring their own blow dryers, the ones that the resort are very outdated and they only run on a very low speed and the air never got hot.
The grounds of this resort are beautiful and always clean. We stayed on the nude side the whole time because that is where all the fun was! A tip for others is to go ahead and drag some floaties from the prude side to the nude side because the floaties on the nude side go very quick! Towel exchange was easy and never a hassle on the nude side, the towel booth in between the two sides closes at 4 and was out of towels a couple of times that we went by. Defiantly take your own beach bag because Hedo does not supply beach bags like some of the other resorts, no biggie. I would defiantly recommend some sort of water shoe for the nude beach, we stepped on several prickly urchins, ouch! You could always tell when someone stepped on one. Even though I hung out on the nude beach I never got completely nude, I always wore a bottom but I was never ridiculed or hassled over it so that was cool. If you go to the nude pool it is a must to get completely nude so keep that in mind. I also saw nude people in the prude pool and the prude beach so that was cool. I liked the whole laid back attitude towards the nudity and I liked the atmosphere, it was much more exciting than the resort we stayed at last year.
I never made it to the Piano bar but we did hit up the disco, the night we went it was jumping and we had a blast dancing and people watching. The entertainment during dinner time was also a pleasure. I liked how they tried to include the guests in the shows, nothing greater than seeing people lose their inhibitions and having a blast. We didn't participate in any of the theme nights but there were a few people who did but I would say more people dressed in their regular clothes when we were there. The ages of the guests ranged from early 30's to senior citizens but I would say the average was late 30's-50's, again at least while we were there it was. As others have said I would invest in a large thermos type mug/cup for drinks otherwise you will be making several trips to the bar since their standard glasses are very small.
The food was pretty good, standard buffet type food that you find at resorts. I tried every type of fish that they put out and I loved them all! I was not impressed with their Jerk Chicken, it was to sweet for my taste. Next time I will get my Jerk fix by going into downtown, I like mine spicy. The jerk pork on the other hand was delicious but again it didn't taste like Jerk....more like barbacoa. Their peas and rice was pretty good, I had that at every meal. Breakfast I usually had bacon and their vanilla pancakes, the bacon is crisp just the way that I like it and the pancakes were awesome too. My favorite dish had to have been a fish pasty, it was a white fish baked within a puff pastry with some kind of cream sauce inside. It reminded me of a gourmet pot pie. I am not much of a dessert person but I did try their blueberry cheesecake and that was really good.
We will defiantly going back to Hedo in the future, its not for everyone but it was for us. Keep an open mind if you do visit and enjoy everything that Hedo & Negril have to offer.!
