My wonderful travel agent at Hayden Travel & Cruises booked my second trip to Hedo II in Negril, Jamica. Again, my friends and I chose the 2nd weekend in November, and again we found that the resort was full of happy friendly people.

I headed out with my friends, flying out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. We had an early flight (7 am) so that we could enjoy as much of the DAY at Hedo as possible. We got to the resort a little after noon, ate at the buffet, then headed to our rooms to change (read: get undressed & grab towels), then went straight to the pool.

This year, the weather was cooler than we expected (especially after the sweltering heat last year), but it was still comfortably warm enough to hang out in or around the pools & beach. The service was wonderful, with most of the staff members being gracious and accommodating.

It seemed as though maybe there were some managerial changes in the staffing, or that maybe there were too many staff changes all at once. We found that the entertainment staff seemed less sure of themselves, some of the regular staff members seemed more distant, and some of the policies seemed to have changed.

None of these things affected our overall vacation, although we were disappointed that we didn't feel so much like "family" at the resort, and seemed more like "company." We much preferred the warm friendliness that the staff members had with us last year to the slightly distant communications we received this year. Nonetheless, our vacation was wonderful (despite my having been sick with a cold or an allergy problem through most of the vacation).

The nightly programs are still fun (toga night, guest/staff talent show, circus showcase, beach party, etc), and I especially loved the Amateur Stripper Contest hosted by Hayden Travel! Apparently, that will be an annual thing, so I look forward to next year's too!

Overall, Hedo II is still my favorite "Me" vacation spot (read: child-and-responsibility-free), and I'm going back next year - same time, same place!

  • Liked — Stress-and-responsibility-free fun!!
  • Disliked — Vacation was too short :)

My wife and I have been to Hedo twice before and we were very disappointed by our stay last week. In our room the air conditioner had only two settings jet engine arctic blast and off...the control panel had been replaced with a light switch. I would have liked to have called the front desk to complain but...the phone jack had been ripped out of the wall. We walked up to the front desk to request a maintenance person to come to the room.

Why didn't you call from the room?
I told the about the phone.

When the maintenance crew came to the room I was told "It work mon" by a maintenance man who flicked the light switch on and started the jet engine hidden in the wall and informed me that the control unit was broken (not true, it was gone) and that we could open our door to the beach if we wanted fresh air .

I asked him to open the door to the beach....

and it popped off the track because no one had ever thought to lubricate it or clean the sand out. I asked if he could help me find a table fan which he could not.

Back down to the front desk again....
Why didn't you call from the room?
I told them about the phone again

My wife asked for a fan...
and had to threaten the night assistant manager with our immediate departure to get one.

Fan arrives in room half hour later.
Room floods two days later from leak in room above (watched maid walk around water on floor during day).

Back down to the front desk again...
Why didn't you call from room?
I told them about the phone again.

During our stay my wife and I (and many other people) saw a rat run through the dining room (I have worked in urban scrap yards most of my adult life and know too much about rats..this was not a mongoose). When I told the woman at the front desk about it she did not even pretend to be surprised.

The day we were liberated I shared all this information with a management team member she also did not bat an eye about the running rodent in the dining room.

She offered us two free nights which I viewed as more of a threat than a reward for what we were put through.

I would only recommend this resort to my worst enemy

Stayed at Hedo II, think it was our 6th time over a three year period. There were No Towels the entire three days we were there, guess they were not expecting guests! We stole towels from the maid carts sitting, and maidless for most of the day. I kidnapped a maid, and made the maid clean our room, think I tipped her a few bucks.

As far as the food, can you say So What! not awful, but definately cafeteria style and quality, almost as good as mall food. Drink up boys, no hangovers here! I think you need alcohol in your drink to get drunk and to have a hangover. Maybe the bar staff thought I was the designated driver, but I planned on using the Hedo shuttle service back to the airport, just like I did to the Resort; I'll get to this in a moment. The drinks S-cked!

As far as atmosphere; I love Jamaica, but I did not come to Hedo to hang with the locals, especially at the disco. This has been an ongoing issue the last several times my wife and I have stayed at Hedo. I think the resort must have the staff living there, and hanging out on there off hours, oh yea, we observed much of the staff just hanging, loafing around throughout the day too.

On the day we left, we aarived at the checkout desk promptly, To make a long story short, they would not take us to the airport, Staff and the Manager, who yelled at us, and treated us poorly, refused us our free shuttle, said we did not confirm prior, even though we had a piece a paper slid under our door the prior night confirming our ride to the airport at 8 A.M. We gave up and paid the Taxi $65.00 This never happened to us here before.

All in all we had a good time, if you go to Hedo, and maybe if you go anywhere, get names, times and in writing everything about promised transportation. As of now, my wife and I do not think we will go back to hedo or Superclubs. We were treated poorly, what if something big happened, I don't think Managements response would be good. Also last time, 6 months ago at Hedo III, a man drowned snorkeling, nobody there knew what to do, staff stood around like idiots and slowly walked to get the AED, by the time they got it, it was way too late to save a man; the nurse arrived 45 minutes later.

Go here for some fun, just don't expect the staff or Management to be good, or provide great service.

This was not our first time to Hedo II. We were there in ’06. We arrived at the airport with minimal delays. We waited for a shuttle bus about 15-20 minutes (just enough time to use the facilities and grab a beer)! Shuttle is always our preferred method of arrival at the resort. The scenery on the way is breath-taking (except for the mammoth resort being built just up the road. I mean, who wants to stay at a place bigger than most states?)
When we arrived, there was a Kingston radio station booked in with loads of Kingston natives trying to check in. We had to wait 1.5 hours for a room to be cleaned so we could check in. It seemed that the staff would have anticipated such a large group trying to check in all at one time and taken steps to ensure plenty of rooms were ready. Additionally, there didn’t seem to be much of a system for processing the arriving guests. Some that arrived after us were off to their rooms while we sat in the lobby. Finally, the manager stepped in to get things moving. We ended up getting a room at the very end of the prude side which was perfect for us. We didn’t mind the walk to the dining room or the nude side. The showers had hot water if you let if run for a few minutes. A/C was sluggish; but we rigged it to blow directly on the bed so all was comfortable for sleep. We had great weather! The food was not quite as good as last time on the buffet. I mean, when you have sliced potatoes for dinner on Monday, then again for lunch on Tuesday; don’t try to put some garnish on them and serve them for breakfast on Wednesday! And what’s up with the shortage of tomatoes? Very pleasantly surprised by the new Jamaican restaurant. The food was awesome! However, we had to ask the tour desk where it was located (which was in the Pastafari restaurant). I was a little disappointed in the service we received in the main dining area. The staff seemed to hover over the Kingston guests while completely ignoring the others (white folks). One night, I asked three different servers for a drink with no success at all. I finally had to get up and get it myself. Whereas the next table (station guests) had refills waiting on their table before they were finished with the original drinks! The only bright spot was my girl, Tamara. She gave the best customer service I’ve ever received (including states and elsewhere). She was pleasant, attentive and engaged us in conversation. She seemed genuinely pleased when we were having a good time. Of course, Charlie was on the top of his game. Also, Roan at the nude/prude grill was the male counterpart to Tamara. He offered to make me “his special lunch”. He later recognized me at the Japanese restaurant and asked me if we were being treated right. He has a smile that would light up the moon! Same treatment at the bar. However, the drinks were plenty strong and plentiful. We never ran out of towels. One day they were a little late in getting them out; but, you could always find them in the dive shop. My husband and I went on the nude catamaran cruise. The crew was fantastic. Very entertaining and informative. First timers for snorkeling and now we’re hooked! Really enjoyed meeting the guy that lives on his boat docked at the caves. We discovered the piano bar this trip (never made it there last time). We really had a great time belting out the song “Brandy”.
We spent most of our time on the beach (which is kept in immaculate condition). Always plenty of rafts and sunshine available. The last night were there they had a HUGE beach party sponsored by Red Stripe for the dude that owns all of the SuperClub resorts. No expense was spared. Lobster tails everywhere. A wok bigger than a kiddie pool for fried shrimp. Entertainment was a bit on the long side. Maybe it’s just b/c I’m not a fan of the “entertainment crew”. If I’m sitting alone eating breakfast, maybe it’s b/c I want it that way. The “entertainers” will come to your table and ask if they can join you. Without waiting for an answer, they sit down and then continue to look totally bored when you try to make small talk. Also to the entertainment men, don’t hold my hand and then pretend you recognize me from years past. Does any female fall for this? The women were a little better except for “Sunshine”. She walks around like a beauty contest winner daring anyone to speak to her (all are allowed to admire her beauty from afar). I know my husband and I will hear “Bocci Ball” in our sleep for years to come! That all from the king & queen of the nude waterslide competition!
We, of course, saw lots of pda on the beach and at the pool. We’re all adults here. If you want to watch, fine. If not, turn your head. I see nothing offending about a BJ on a beach chair or a little in-out action in the pool. That is only part of what makes Hedo such a great place to go for vacation. There’s no judgement; only good times. We did head off the “reservation” once during our stay for dinner at another resort. Everyone there was uptight and boring (I mean virgin drinks boring). That’s why we couldn’t beat it back to Hedo as soon as we could. So laidback and relaxing. My husband and I talked about going for longer than one week. We concluded that we would never recover from being a mindless puddle of putty that you would become after more than one week. One week is just long enough for enjoying paradise in the Carribean.

Wow...

All in all had a great time.Met some really cool people ( U know who u are!! wink wink) which made the trip. The accommodations were mediocre at best. A faulty AC made it uncomfortable at night. The food was just OK.... Was extremely impressed with the gym which i expected to be crappy. The hot tub at night is just....WOW... if you have a wild side I definitely suggest Hedo II. Look forward to hittin' it again!
