Sunset Jamaica Grande was excellent. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and variety. The a la carte restaurants were excellent. The staff are really friendly and cannot do enough for you. The cocktails and other bevarges are excellent with plenty of bars to choose from. It was our first All Inclusive holiday and it is definetely the way to go from now on. There are plenty of activties to choose from on site and off site but you need to take plenty of extra money for these as there are plenty of excursions to choose from, we did Dunns Rivers Falls and swam with the dolphins both fantastic and well recommended. The evening entertainment is good fun and jamaican themed, but a great night was the beach party which is a night not to be missed, plenty of food and entertainment. We will definetely go back again as everyone is so friendly, guests and staff. The hotel is huge and so clean and it rained whilst we were there but it didn't last long and then it was red hot again. It was well worth the money and truly recommended enjoy if you go! John & Nic, Bolton, England.

  • Liked — friendliness of everyone on resort, staff and guests it was like a little community, food and drink was great also accomodates for everyones taste. The hotel was very clean too.
  • Disliked — it needed more water machines around the hotel or in the rooms even though you could drink you room tap water it only dribbled out and was warm, we thought as it was a 4-5 star hotel it would have fridges in the room.
  • Tips/Secrets: — take plenty of money for excursions, jamaican bank holiday is around 14 -15th October and is really busy in the hotel.

This is going to be very long but I didn't want to leave anything out. The best thing I can tell you is...start participating in the fun right away. Don't just sit back and watch, go ahead, play the pool games, dance and enter the contests. You're on vacation, it's OK to make a fool of yourself. Remember, you'll probably never see any of these people again. HAVE FUN!!!!!

We stayed at the SJG for a week, Sept 16-23, 2006. Three couples, 2 in their 40's 1 in their 20's. We all had the best time. This resort is so beautiful and the staff...they are awesome. Lets begin with the airline, I definately agree with other reviews, do not fly Air Jamaica. It sounds great but they lost 3 of our 10 bags (of course, they blamed Delta). Anyway, once we got over that we were on our way to the SJG. Don't let the ride scare you, it's not that bad. It took about 2 hours from Montego Bay with one stop to stretch. Once we arrived at the resort we were greeted with smiling faces and a nice cold beverage. Check in took only about 15 min. We all got settled into our rooms which were in the south tower, 3rd floor (I would suggest getting a room on a higher floor as the view was not that great, but it didn't matter, we didn't spend that much time in the room). The rooms were very large and clean.

Buffet and reservation restaurants were all excellent. Try all of the reservation restaurants, we didn't think we'd like the Ginger Lily and my daughter and her boyfriend liked it so much they ended up going back another night. So really, try them all. One thing to remember, no shorts so be sure to pack so dress clothes for dinner. If you go hungry here, it is your own fault. There is something to please everyone, even if you're a picky eater. The only complaint we had for the buffet is the teeny tiny glasses at the soda station. There are 2 grills, south and north, both wonderful but the south grill has BBQ chicken. You can also get french fries, burgers and hot dogs. If you are fortunate enough to be here on Tuesday, there is a beach party. They have tables and chairs on the North beach and tons of food (all of the restaurants are closed that night). A steel band plays during dinner and they have a wonderful show afterwards.

The pools... WOW!!!! There are 5 magnificent pools here, 2 of which have waterfalls. All pools are very, very clean. There are 2 swim-up bars and the bartenders are the best. They say that tipping is not necessary but everyone here works very hard and I doubt they are paid what they should be. One American dollar, not much to us, means alot to them so be generous.

The beaches are very beautiful and clean. There is so much to do, water trampolines, kayaks, snorkeling and wind surfers, all free of charge.

The weather in Jamaica was perfect everyday. Only 10 minutes of rain all week.

A specail thanks to some of the staff that made our stay memorable:
Sashole at the guest services counter. She was exceptionally helpful. We had lost luggage and she helped us everyday until it was delivered.
Tamra at guest services assisted as well with the luggage nightmare.
Beverly, Charlotte, Sasha, and Rafael from the entertainment staff were so much fun.
Hubert fron the Jamalicious Restaurant was very entertaining.
Sandy, the best bartender on site.
Thanks to all of you!!!!
Things we did and would recommend...
Dolphin Cove- swimming with the dolphins, expensive but well woth it.
Cool Runnings- snorkeling, Dunns River and PARTY on the catamaran. FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!

All in all, we had a fantastic time and would return in a heartbeat.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at SJG last week. We had a truly wonderful time! The staff was super friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. The resort was practically empty - we had our choice of pool, beach or bar almost to ourselves. The construction of the "water slide" did not hamper our visit. The view is obstructed, but it was not noisy.

The food was excellent. Breakfasts were a treat every morning and the buffets were pretty good too. If you're looking for truly outstanding food, go on a cruise. But as far as all-inclusives go, this was the best we've seen. This was the 5th one tried - we've been to Cancun, Aruba, & the Dominican Republic - and Sunset Jamaica Grande is definitely the best place I'd come back to. We went without our 16 month-old daughter, but there were several families there with young children and I couldn't help but notice how family-friendly the resort was. Next time we return, we will bring our kids too.

The music played was a little repetitive (can't they get another CD?) but that is typical of these all-inclusive resorts from my experience. Also, our room was directly above the Entertainment pavilion in the North tower and they had LOUD music playing every night from 9:30 - 11:30 pm. The singing wasn't all that great, and we had to turn the TV up pretty high to avoid listening to it. A room on the other side of the building or perhaps the South tower would not have had this problem at all. The DJ/singer at the buffet each night was fabulous. We would go after a restaurant meal just to listen to him.

I was prepared from reading previous posts that the bus trip from Montego Bay would be 2 hours and very bumpy. It was 2 hrs, but they are doing a major road reconstruction job, and half of our trip was on nice, new, smooth pavement. So it was not as bad as I thought.

We had quite a problem calling the US, however. The AT&T phonecard we brought does not work in Jamaica. Plus, the hotel charges $3 connection fee for each call. We ended up deciding to email home, which is $6 for 30 min. (A little steep). The business center was supposed to be open all day, but it took our 5th attempt to catch someone actually there. So we didn't contact home that much, and it was frustrating, but certainly did not ruin an overall lovely time.

  • Liked — Friendly staff; many pools; good food
  • Disliked — Business Center not staffed sufficiently
  • Tips/Secrets: — Don't go in 2007 during the Cricket World Cup! Jamaica will be way too busy mon...

This was our first time to Jamaica, but not to the carribean, we are both from the uk but live in Spain and went with 2 of our Spanish friends. After a long flight of about 9 1/2 hrs (thank god for the flight upgrade) we arrived at montego bay where i managed to get a quick puff on my giggy No not that sought. we then had a air condition bus to take us on the 3 hr journey to SJG what a long way after the flight but it was worth it once we arrived the hotel is lovely, bit of a wait untill you get your keys and pay a security dep for the safe etc, you do get a friut punch drink while you are waiting, the rooms are comfortable clean but are starting to show signs of wear especialy the bathrooms, but not much time is spent in the rooms. staff were all friendly and have an incredible memerie for names wish i did. and probably spell better than me to.
all in all the pools beach food bars entertainment was all good. The casino was great won so many times. Now the worst part, the short walk into the town is where you WILL get ripped of by the locals unless you want to buy dont look at it and know the max you are prepared to pay coz they are very good at talking you into paying there price, The TAXIS are one of the biggest RIPP OFF. ALWAYS get an agreed price first they tend to tell you it will be about $20 but will pay possibly $50 even for a short jorney of 2 or 3 miles expect to pay through the nose, not many problems with drugs you just say no thanks and they leave you alone, hair brading is about $50 and prices are never put on anything so you have to ask how much (crazy prices much cheaper in the uk or spain) the beaches didnt live up to what we expected, although the day we spent at Negril was the best trip cost us $45 ea worth it an all day trip, to swim with dolphins was $200ea 1/2 day there is a place called SHADES it has a freak show that is funny wont say anymore about that. would we go back to Jamaica NO but the hotel was nice

This hotel is absolutely massive. it is a dream and a half. I would reccommend you go there if you love a beach or pool holiday with guaranteed hot hot weather, lovely accomodation, excellent location and yummy food!!! It has three a la carte restaurants . Msyelf and my boyfriend went to the asian three nights and got things like sweet and sour chicken, and they were all so delicious. the buffet restaurant has so much choice. the drink is all included as well and includes everything from vodka to gin to rum to whiskey to sex on the beach cocktails. the people are so friendly and i highly reccommend the bob marley museum were you see were bob was laid to rest. ignore the fact that its hurricane season from june to oct- the last hurricane was 2004!!! No matter when you go it will be hot. if it rains its only for an hour at the most. You need to have an open mind as the country relies on tourism so they will do anything to make a quick quid! this includes selling their cannabis. 75% of the population smoke it some because its in their religion- Rastafarian. Please go and experience this. if you are with a tour operator do not buy their tours- nearly double the price. go to guest services in the south lobby and book there for the same tours at up to half the price. Enjoy!! its fantastic......Try and book the south tower - its so handy to everything

  • Liked — The layout and facitities
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets: — Book tours with guest services in hotel not tour operaters- save alot of money
