“Rooms Ocho Rios aka Rooms on the Beach”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

This place was one of the worst places we have ever stayed in. We were booked in for four nights in a suite with a balcony and an ocean view. Gave us a key to the room and told us we had to climb 4 flights of stairs, with all our luggage, to get to the room, There is no elevator. You cannot leave anything in your car otherwise it will be stolen. The room was the most dismal place one can imagine and which could not possibly have been a suite. We went back downstairs and asked if the room we had been given was a suite. Answer no - but it states on the reservation it was a suite. Staff attitude is sullen and hostile no matter how nicely and gently you ask. We are sent to another room which is a little larger and has a sofa that has seen better days - sags in the middle. Room has no balcony and a small side view of the ocean if you stand in one particular place by the window. Breakfast - you will not find a worse one - we passed after the first morning. On two occasions we were not given clean towels and were left with wet ones. Another day they took away the towels and didn't leave any. The toilet had not seen a cleaning in heaven knows how long, it was black up to the water level. We asked for laundry facilities and were told that we had to use the washing machine and it cost $10 US dollars to use it to do one load of wash but the machine was broken and there was water all over the floor so you couldn't use it if you were willing to pay the $10.00.

Room Tip: Do not stay here.

Decent room right on Ocho Rios Beach. Clean.

Continental breakfast - cereal, fruit, coffee, juice, toast - nothing special.

Restaurant ok. Bar is overpriced. Ice machine was fine but hotel was almost empty.

Close to downtown. Market has great fruit. Lots of places to buy patties, chicken. Taste of India is a great restaurant close by. Lots of real supermarkets nearby - 6 pack red strip ~ $6.

Nice beach. No hassles after you meet the locals who basically hang around/ There are friendly.

Room Tip: Bring home the basic ground coffee from the supermarket - it's excellent and better than the blu...

Anyone thinking about booking this hotel please think again.

I'll give you my main observations:

The hotel is tired, rundown and in need of some serious investment.

Unhelpful and generally disinterested staff.

Although the property is in a good location and directly on the beach it is also extremely noisy so don't expect to be able to relax. The music on one night was so loud that the walls and bed in our room were vibrating!!

The continental breakfast is a complete joke. You are given a tiny bowl of fruit, two blocks of butter & a slab of jam & that's your lot. The industrial hotel toaster on our visit was out-of-order.

In short do not be tempted by this hotels budget prices & go elsewhere.

We booked this dump off the Virgin Holidays website & I really surprised that a company like Virgin would have a hotel like this on its books.

I love jamaica and often went for long weekends instead of doing 7 day inclusive thing. rooms on the beach was great because you pay a nightly rate, get a continental breakfast each morning and still have a great beach to enjoy all for a cheaper price then at a resort. the rooms are dated and could use some upgrading but im not going to jamaica to stay in the room!! had a coffee maker, if you get a oceanview room you get a nice balcony to enjoy your coffee on! i stayed here twice, at the end of may 2013 and also in july 2013 and i enjoyed th oceanview room i had the first time. the next time my room window looked out at the pool and i found it a little noisy in the room from the people outside at the pool. the pool is small but nice and has a swim up bar. there is good security at the gate but i was also alowed to have my friends in to sit by the pool area and visit without having to pay a day fee on them which was nice. we would pick up booze in town and make our own drinks to save $. is a short 3 minute walk to the gate and you are in ocho rios right in the town there is lots of places to eat cheap and enjoy local food and things to do so get out of the hotel and explore! i would go back again, only complaint was service was slow in the morning at breakfast. only 99 rooms so the place is never so busy that you feel crowded, unlike large resorts with hundreds of people trying to find a spot on the beach!

Room Tip: ocean view second floor

We had used toilet paper in the bathroom, the towels were filthy and after requesting new towels we were told we already received our lot. The cards to open the rooms doesn't work. Price is cheap, the beach is nice. Staff was rude!

Room old, furniture old, fixture old. Great location. Ok views. Good price. If you are realistic with price vs comfort then you will be ok. If you plan to spend alot of time in the room, then this may not be the hotel for you; besides, who goes to Jamaica to spend all their time in a room.

Superb location and good facilities, however with a little more attention this could be a 'great' hotel. Some areas in the rooms could be improved with a little maintenance. The walls are bare and 'cold' when a couple of pictures of local scenes would make a great difference for a few dollars. There was no fridge in the room which is very bad in this climate where cool drinks are essential. No radio or clock in the room. No microwave in the room. No Wi-Fi in the room. There was a huge area designated for a tv but only a tiny tv and no tv guide. There was no ash tray in the room or on the balcony, and who does not 'smoke a little something' in Jamaica !! There was no plug in the bathroom wash basin. Breakfast was always still in the preparation stage even at 7.30am rather inconvenient when guests wanted to get away for a tour at 8am. It appears that the pool did not open until around 10am, why so late? When I asked at the front desk if they could have some postcards mailed for me, I was told "Take 'em to the Post Office".. What?? At 6pm one evening I asked for a sachet of coffee, having just returned tour and was told I could not get one until Housekeeping opened at 8.30am the following day !! 14 plus hours and no coffee !! The rooms were functional rather than warm and for a few dollars this could have been a superb hotel. Even so, I would be willing to visit again

Room Tip: Request beach view
