The hotel is the perfect size. Incredibly private with amazing views of the ocean from everywhere. The room was very nice with a great view. The staff in every department at the hotel were the best trained, most helpful, and cheerful I have experienced in the Caribbean. The food included with the all inclusive package was wonderful. There are really no negatives associated with the Royal Plantation. I intend to go back again!

I have just returned to England after spending a fantastic week at the Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

I was undecided where to go for a holiday and after doing much searching stumbled across the RP. I decided to check reviews on Trip Advisor and virtually everyone was complimentary, i looked at the resort website and it looked lovely. I would now like to add my compliments to a Fantastic Resort and thank them for a wonderful stay.

I am generally a lazy so and so, and do not bother to write reviews or comments, however, I felt compelled to write as I have been to some lovely resorts and great places, but none more so than the Royal Plantation.

From the minute we settled into our private transfer from Montego Bay (about 1hr 45 from the Hotel) we were given an ice cold Red Stripe and told to relax as we were on holiday. The Hotel even phoned the Taxi to find out why we had not arrived at the resort (flight delayed by an hour).

We were a little reticient about going to Jamaica as we had always heard you were limited to your resort and it could be a hostile/unfriendly place. The staff were brilliant, they really looked after us and were probably the hotels best asset. The beach was very nice, water sports were good, the food was always good. We found the restaurant down by the sea the nicest in the evening. The Royal Plan (all inclusive) was better than most all inclusives where you are restricted on what you can have. All premium spirits plus Lobster were included. (Caviar and premium wines/Champagnes excluded).

The Premium Beach Front Suites were nice, with 4 poster bed, shower/bath, TV, Safe, Mini Bar (all included part of Royal Plan), Ipod Player.

Peacocks walk around the gardens, I didnt relise this until one gave me a fright one day.

The hotel also has a very nice SPA.

My only regret was staying for a week, I wish I had booked for longer.

The Hotel did not disappoint and since coming home have recommended to my friends and colleagues. I will definately go back to the Hotel.

Thank You for a great holiday

We stayed at the Royal Plantation for 7 nights in 2007 and 5 in 2008. It is small and lovely and everyone is very friendly. The property is just so beautiful and charming and it sets the right tone between laid back and elegant. The views are beautiful and the rooms are perfect for relaxing in a comfortable chair and gazing out, through open doors, to the Caribbean. The food if very good, but expensive, and the service is pretty good for the Caribbean, but not excellent. The spa is very good. The internet and cell phone service work like a charm! The tennis courts are not great, but easy to get on, as very few guests play. I recommend an evening out at Evitas, a great little restaurant.

  • Liked — The view from the rooms!
  • Disliked — Food prices were too high and the service was a little too slow.

Royal Plantation is, without a shadow of doubt, the most attentive, comfortable resort I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy.

The staff was supremely courteous and friendly and all our requests were greeted with a smile as warm and soothing as a Caribbean morning. From the friendly welcome by Dwight and Shaun to the attentive service and hospitality of Michael Curtis, the entire staff is made up of charming, fun-loving and warm people dedicated to serving the guests. Another example was the fine gentleman David Patterson who transported us to and from the airport and made time for our own private tour of Ocho and surrounding areas. He was well-educated, traveled and amiable and added a lot to our whole experience

Our room was well-furnished and beautifully decorated in the theme of the island and its natural beauty. The food was exquisite and delectable--focused on Caribbean dishes--yet with an abundant variety of worldly cuisines served with class and a flair for the magnificent!

The spa is another treat. The staff is professional and well-trained and leaves you feeling as though you never want to leave.

The location was superb--tucked away with oceans of beautiful flowers--yet right on the beach. Each suite had a lovely view designed to focus on the natural surroundings while the grounds were inhabited by the most curious and colorful collection of peacocks.

If you're heading to the Caribbean, the Royal Plantation would be an outstanding choice. You will be thrilled with the beauty of the setting, quality of rooms, and excellent spa and a staff who treat you like royal guests.

We stayed for 8 nights in April 2007 and it was simply gorgeous. The staff couldn't have been more helpful (Odel at Le Papillion and Rallston at the Lounge were our favorites). We enjoyed all the restaurants and found the menus varied and creative. The spa was a delightful, if expensive, retreat. A few tiny complaints:
1) We got a bit of a run-around when it came to scuba diving - there seemed to be a lack of communication between the RP Water Sports staff and the nearby Sandals that handled the actual scuba.
2) The beaches were lovely and uncrowded but there wasn't much of an area to swim around in right off the property and there certainly wasn't any snorkling right there (you had to take a boat out to do that, but it was fairly convenient and the sites were good). There's a heavy boat traffic lane a few dozen yards off the beach, so the safe section that's roped off is fairly small, but that seems to be common for the area.
3) It sounds silly, but the toilet paper rolls were too big for the wall mounts, so if you had a fresh roll (they changed them almost every day), you had to either pull it out square by square or just take it off the mount entirely. A minor detail, but frustrating.
All in all, it was a fantastic vacation and we're looking forward to going back soon.

  • Liked — Luxury, staff, food/wine, tranquility
  • Disliked — Long haul from the major airports, Ocho Rios itself is a dump

Our family recently spent a week at the Royal Planation, 2 couples in their thirties plus mom. This is an adults only resort with a good mix of ages. The hotel was very comfortable, with lovely rooms, good food, and the best service we've had anywhere. Everyone at the resort was helpful, friendly and went out of their way to accomodate us. Do sign up for the all-inclusive Royal Plan. Our only expenses for a week were pictures by their photographer during the Bar-B-Que and fees for the golf cart and caddie. Although gratuities were included in the Royal Plan, we left tips for the staff for truely extraordinary service. Unfortunately the beach and pool area are fairly small and leave something to be desired but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. Not the least expensive resort in Jamaica but worth the money!

This was our 12th visit to the Caribbean and our 3rd to Jamaica and, for personal reasons, we wanted a relaxed, pampered vacation. The Royal Plantation met our expectations fully.

Personal transport from the airport - we had been on the road from Europe for 19 hours, so the driver phoned ahead and the resort had food set up in our room, once we had checked in with a glass of champagne.

The service was outstanding in every part of the resort. The General Manager carried our grilled lobster to our table. The Hotel Manager always mixed with guests. The bar staff - how can you not like someone who doubles as a cricket commentator ? The water staff were up there for safety and service. We spent a lovely morning having a cooking lesson from the head chef in his kitchen. The music was just so Jamaica !

We would go back in a flash - anything you want, just ask !
