despite a flight delay our journey with Thomson was, I'm glad to say, an improvement on many previous flights. The introduction of meals by Aldo Zilli actually added a plus to the experience, my husband normally eschews aircraft meals but was man enough to agree that he had enjoyed what he had eaten. Our arrival in Montego Bay can only be described as tortuous, it would appear that our flight arrived at the same time as approximately 6 other flights. We walked, in a 4 strong queue, for approximately 35 minutes before we even saw the immigration desks. It was a 30 minute trek before we placed our passports etc., on the desk. A very pleasant greeting from the Immigration officer, and a vague apology for the long wait. We thought the rest of the entry would be a doddle- WRONG-, it was horrendous. At least 10 lines (queues we would call them) snaked around the customs area, sad to say that there appeared to be no starting or finishing points and Americans are not given to standing in queues, they pushed in and jostled to get to the front. A quick and quiet word to one of the Customs officials about the organised chaos did get us moving very rapidly. Unfortunately it was at the expense of other travellers and I did feel a little guilty. I have deliberately described this part of the holiday because it did not set a scene for enjoyment, and, if travelling with children or elderly/handicapped people, it is perhaps better that you are aware of the problems.
Having finally navigated our way through the airport , we arrived at the Couples welcoming desk, a speedy registration, a very welcome cold drink (or two), toilets and we were checked for transport to the hotel. The journey was 2 hours long and traffic was heavy. I think all passengers on the bus were delighted when their various destinations were reac hed.
We checked in at reception and were given a room on the ground floor, this would have been fine had it not been for the enormous hedging which greeted us as we stepped onto the patio area. A rapid return to Reception and an alternative room on the 3rd floor was acceptable, don't be afraid to refuse any room which you do not find suits your needs. Our room was fairly spacious, king size bed, storage facilities, en suite and a safe.
Food at OCR is plentiful, and in the main, delightful. As a curry lover I was eager to try 'Jerk' foods but found them to be far to savage. My idea of curry is long, slow cooking, Jerk is anything but. There is plenty of variety, salads are exotic, meats are well cooked and neither of us suffered any ill-effects from anything which we ate Party nights are regular , beach parties, (depending on the weather) take place at keast once a week. All alcoholic drinks are good quality and top shelf drinks readily available. Staff are friendly, smiley, efficient and are to be complimented in many ways. The Entertainment team do a superb effort to join visitors at meals, organise entertainment of
all kinds, present evening shows and teach, very sexy, dancing. We had a wonderful holiday.
