I agree with those who say if you don't believe this is a 5 star hotel, you need to consider you are in Jamaica. This resort was in a beautiful setting with 2 private beaches and outstanding service. We tipped some of the staff and I think this is a good idea on your first couple of days. It sets the tone, you don't have to go crazy and they will still give you great service, but we had outstanding service. If anyone offers you any goods/services make sure you get the price upfront (just a tip for dealing with merchants).

The food is delicious and they take such care to make your meal/restaurant experiences nice. The restaurants are nice and slightly different atmosperes, casual, beachfront, dressy. Food at all of them and room service is excellent. The liquor quality is excellent- no bottom shelf here, including nicer wine at the Cassanova restaurant.

Nightly activities are very fun and the staff works very hard to keep you included, get you up and moving and have fun so that you have a better experience and don't get bored. Play bingo by the pool, it's very fun!! Also the amount of water activities included is excellent. My husband sailed in the hobeycat (sp?) everyday and really had a blast. The water sport staff are very nice and will take you out for a sail if you are unsure how to do it. And come get you free of charge if you tip or run into anything. The resort could use some updating, but overall, it's a great place and the service is top notch. No safety issues or stealing issues, we left our bag at the beach everyday.

We met amazing couples there for their honeymoons and July was a great time to go, not crowded at all. Like you had the place to yourself!

Adrian, Dennis, Dave, Carlon, Carlton, Kimberly, Simone, Miguel - you made our experience awesome and we'll see you in a year!

My husband and I went for one week to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were very happy with our stay.
We booked the Hibiscus Cottage, a spacious room with a great view and a lot of privacy.
Cleanliness: The hotel property and restaurants were extremely well kept. The public areas were very clean. Our personal outside jacuzzi was always cleaned and someone came around the check the ph levels at least twice a day. The room itself was cleaned well enough, but there were a few spots that could have used an little extra tlc. But overall, considering the size of the room, it was well kept.
Location: The location was great, and the beaches were wonderful. Both beaches are not shared with neighboring resorts. We went for a boat ride at one point and saw some of the neighboring hotels, which made us VERY happy that we decided to stay at San Souci. The hotel is not a far ride from town. The Noises from the surrounding hotels could not be heard from our hotel.

The lobby was exactly what I expected a Caribbean lobby to look like, cozy, well decorated, colourful and clean. We were given a welcome drink and reception was nothing but pleasant and helpful. It is silly to judge a hotel by its lobby's 'wow factor' and allow that to affect ones vacation (unless the lobby is filthy, dark and reception is rude).

The service was amazing! They have enough staff working in all locations, so wait time is not an issue. All the staff are helpful and friendly.
The food was great! Only picky eaters that like plain potatoes and a slab of meat, or eat meals that you just pop in the oven more than food they have to prep and cook, or just don't know good food will not enjoy the food here. The menu is a well designed menu with something great on it every night. The salad buffet had variety and the smoothies at breakfast were great! There was always a great variety of fruit to pick from at every meal.

The spa services were wonderful, clean, and the staff professional. The only suggestion to future guests regarding the spa is to say what you want right away. A man massaged me and a woman my husband while we got a couples massage. I prefer men giving me a massage, as does my husband, so that it can be a better deep tissue massage (which was what we paid for). When booking the massage, if you want a man for that deep tissue, ask for a man.

It is nice that the room service is included in the AI, but the food itself isn't that good. I understand the desire to create smaller portion sizes because people will order more than they need and waste the food, but for the price of the hotel I expected better quality room service food. I am a HUGE desert fan, and there was not one pastry on the desert menu that I enjoyed. Small portions are fine, but the quality of the food needs improvement.

Guys running the water activities were great.

Overall, great resort, wonderful staff and services, great location and was so happy to be on a vacation with no children at the hotel. Will definitely go back!

We returned to Couples Sans Souci in April of this year to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We have been twice before, both times when the property was under different ownership. This time, it was a Couples property, and I must say it has been nicely refurbished.

We have stayed in the Beachfront rooms (A and B Blocks) before, but this time, we splurged on a Penthouse. We received one on the D Block, and the view was breathtaking. The suite was large, spacious, and very clean. Both the bedroom and living room had a spectacular view of the ocean. The large balcony (really large, it went the length of the entire suite), had a table with chairs and two padded loungers. The minibar was well-stocked, and was replenished each day from our order sheet. There was a flat screen lcd television in both the living and bedroom; both rooms also had a clock radio that could play an iPod. There was a large, walk-in closet, a safe for our valuables, plush bathrobes for two, nice bathroom toiletries (including a small bottle of aloe for too much sun). Our bathroom did not have a tub (some do), but a large walk-in shower with zero-entry. Lots of hot water, lots of water pressure from the rain-style shower head. We did have wi-fi in our room.

I have seen people on these reviews complain that this “5 Star” resort isn’t really 5-Star. All I can say, is they are not taking into consideration the quality of resorts in Jamaica. I have stayed in 5-Star Resorts all over the world, and many high-quality resorts in Jamaica. Nothing comes close to the quality of amenities and caring staff at Couples Sans Souci. Sure, it is not the same as the Ritz in London or the Four Seasons in Chicago... but this is the Caribbean! This resort easily compares to some of the nicer Mediterranean resorts I have seen. In fact, with the cliffs, stairs, gardens, grottos, and atmosphere, I would say this resort very much reminds me of the Mediterranean. Only less expensive. Sure, the linens are not 800-thread count, but they are clean, comfortable, and all the rooms have been remodeled since our last stay.

The staff really makes the resort special. From the groundskeepers to housekeeping, from the wait staff to the front desk staff, from the entertainers to the bartenders... everyone has a smile and wants to truly make your stay enjoyable. The food is very good, starting with the breakfast buffets (so much fresh fruit, and the delicious made to order omelets!), through the most elegant dinners - we never had a complaint. Some mornings we ordered the continental breakfast in our room, so we could enjoy the view.

For our anniversary, we ordered a special “Private Dinner” for two in the wedding gazebo, with a private waiter, overlooking the ocean. Everything else was part of the all-inclusive package, but this was extra; the cost was only $150 - a bargain compared to any other anniversary dinner in the states.

Our only complaint was that we only booked 6 days. We met many couples who come for 10-14 days at a time; something we will definitely consider next time.

We did not do any of the Spa amenities this time, nor did we do any off-site excursions. There is a lovely, clean Fitness Center (and an outdoor pavillion for yoga and exercise classes) that we kept meaning to get to... but never quite made it. 6 days of laying on Sunset Beach was enough activity for this couple!

Upon entering Couple Sans Souci, I was at first a little apprehensive with the lobby and trip to our room. It did seem a little run down and "simple." But, after experiencing the entire resort I grew more and more impressed.

Couples Sans Souci is very charming. You are living on a cliffside, so beware of steps. But, the layout of the resort is what makes this place so beautiful. You will find little hidden alcoves. You will never have trouble getting away alone or enjoying a walk with your spouse. If you have read some of the reviews about "broken tile" or "green rocks in a pool" then you have uncovered reviews from people who have never spent time outdoors. This resort is simple in its beauty, yet brilliant in its scenery. Of course, you will see some little critters here and there - but, you are in a tropical location.

What makes Couple Sans Souci special is the simplicity. They do everything right and it is not commercial like other resorts you may go to. The staff will greet you by name by the end of your stay. They will go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need.

My husband and I enjoyed our honeymoon thoroughly. We met some wonderful other couples. We enjoyed quiet afternoons on the beach (which wasn't crowded or littered with vendors). In the evenings, we enjoyed our dinners, drinks, and dancing to the nightly entertainment.

Also, with your stay, you'll find that if you want to be busy with activity, that is possible. There is an array of activities during the day (beach volleyball, pool volleyball, ping pong, tennis, games room, painting, tours, shopping, free golf) and in the evening (dancing to the Showtime entertainment, drinking by a beautiful pool, or going for a romantic walk)

One other thing that we found particularly special was the games room with free computer/internet access.

I cannot say more positive things about Couples Sans Souci. You have to experience the elegant simpleness of this resort! Relax and Enjoy the beauty and "no problems" in Jamaica~

My husband and I wanted to go to a new location for our honeymoon. We had been to all-inclusives in Cancun and knew that was the way to go. We decided Jamaica sounded like the perfect place and after a lot of research we decided on Couples Sans Souci. I have traveled to quite a few countries and expected a lot from this 5-star rated hotel. It didn't live up to it for me. First, the entrance is not what you expect. I was expecting a nice lobby area, but it is simply an open air room with a table and computer as a desk. I feel the lobby sets the tone for the resort and this one fell short. The worst part of our trip was that our room was not the best. We had a jacuzzi tub that didn't work, a shower that leaked all over the bathroom floor, and the linens on the bed were terrible. We arrived extremely late due to flight issues, and all I wanted to do was sleep. The first morning we were there, I woke up to a dead cockroach on the floor next to the bed. I was beyond disgusted. The rest of the week was filled with more bugs in the room than I can describe and I never wanted to be in the room. The room also looked very dated. The mirror in the bathroom had rust on it and the paint on the walls were chipped in some places. The sliding door to our patio was also very hard to open. My next complaint was the food. I will admit that I am a very picky eater, but my choices were VERY limited. There were only three places to eat and little changed on the menu every night. They were also inconsistent. Some nights the pizza was great and the next it tasted like they didn't even cook it.

Don't get me wrong, the resort is beautiful. The landscape cannot be beat and the couples massage is great! We really enjoyed snorkeling and meeting some other couples. We also loved having no kids around on our honeymoon, but for the reviews I read and the ratings this hotel got, I expected a lot more than I saw.

If you do come here and want to do a lot of tours, I highly recommend swimming with dolphins at Dolphins Cove and the Zip line tour. Just make sure you bring lots of dollar bills. While the resort is no tipping, as soon as you step off the property everyone thinks they deserve a tip and they aren't always polite about it.
