“Sans Souci or without care - no problem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

Arrived back home after a fortnight at Sans Souci on Friday. Our first trip to Jamaica. We loved it and to be honest the few complaints we have seen on Trip Advisor seem to be from people who would find something to moan about come hell or high water! The weather for the last two weeks has been a lot wetter than is usual at this time of year, but it didn't spoil our enjoyment as it was still beautifully warm. Adopt a relaxed, no worries approach to everything and life couldn't be better. Without exception every member of staff be they manager, waiter, barman, housekeeper, gardener or parrot carrier arounder were so kind and helpful and if I could bottle their wonderful smiles the world would be a happier place. We achieved what we set out to do which was a trip to Nine Mile on a colourful bus to see where The Legend that is Bob Marley was born and is now laid to rest, and also the climb up Dunn's River Falls. I found it quite challenging but am delighted to have done it. We have only praise for Couples Sans Souci and what was to have been the holiday of a lifetime is already being saved up again for!

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room in B block. This was close to sea, main lawn and main pool. It suited us...

We have been going to Jamaica since 1998. Each year is better than the year before.i would have given an excellent rating if the rooms were in better condition.
Yes the rooms are in need of major updating but you don't spend all your time in the room. Plus we were able to see the remodeled room. It's gorgeous! The plan is to have all the rooms remodeled in buildings A&B within the next 14 months. They are also going to update the Beach Grill within a few weeks.
I fell while our second night there. I don't drink so that wasn't the problem. The area I fell at was not lit very well. I didn't see the slight drop in the sidewalk & I went down. Within seconds Melvin from the bar was there along with other staff. The nurse came and was very nice. No broken bones. Everyone went out of their way to help. In spite of that I'm planning on returning next year.
Our experience here has always been positive. If you are looking for a laid back atmosphere with couples & NO kids then I'd recommend this property.

Recently my husband and I stayed at the resort for a couples get away. Unless you are 55+ I would not recommend this resort. I just turned 41 and we were one of the youngest couples there. The room was outdated, cracks in the walls, drawer looked antique and the bottom would not open, we never received our wake up call that we asked for, the room was not cleaned one day and we had to keep calling the next day to have it done. The frig had little in it, two coke, two beers, they would refill each day but very limited. The second day we were there it rained most the day so we decided to get a massages. Little did we know they were done in huts. Between the wind blowing and rain we got soaked and the spa shower was freezing! The service was extremely slow; one night it took 1 1/2 for dinner, start to end. The resort was not busy and we only got the meal. We did talk to the night manager Semore about some of the issues we were having and he said he would make it up to us. Well, we never heard back from him or received anything to make up for it. The food was just average, there are 3 restaurants to eat at. Either very fancy, medium or the grill. The food choices did not change daily, they would offer the same for two days before changing the menu. Now, we did like that you could check into an area when you got into the airport. It offered drinks and a lounge. The Dunn's River was included and we really enjoyed that. My husband and I have been to Sandals, Breezes, Beaches and Iberostar resorts and this resort by far is the worst. The staff was not friendly and were more like ghost that would just walk by you. Please, save your money and go to another location.

Dear Christy C,

Thank you for staying a Couples Sans Souci. Your comments have been noted.

Our clientele age ranges at this resort. However, there tends to be a more mature crowd in the winter season. The style of this resort is colonial, especially inside the rooms, but there will be a renovation taking place this year in order add modernity where needed.

Mini Bars are stocked daily with the basics but we provide an order-card in every room that enables you to request anything from wine to pineapple juice. The restaurant menus do alternate daily with a mixture of gourmet buffets. In addition to this, we have a veggie/health bar within the spa that serves food and smoothies.

Our spa is natural in the sense that services take place directly over the Caribbean sea in open-air huts. This spa built into perched cliffs is actually the foundation of Sans Souci’s history and something our guests find uniquely relaxing.

Although I don’t have direct information, allow me to apologize for the inconvenience of your wake-up call and room make-up time. On a positive note, I am glad you enjoyed our Couples Lounge with free transportation to and from the airport as well as our included tour of Dunns River Falls. Couples Sans Souci is very unique as I mentioned, but I think our resorts in Negril might be more your style, take a look at them here on Trip Advisor.

We decided to beat the temperatures in Toronto and booked into this hotel having read all the reviews. This was our first time to Jamaica and what a wonderful time we had. I agree with some of the reviews in that the hotel does have some areas where it may be looking a little tired for example in the bathrooms but the staff and the facility completely make that up and more. We loved all the steps and nooks and crannies. It is built into a cliff so has wonderful views and our room was in the Gardenia section on the upper level with a balcony. A wonderful place to sit and take in the sunset. Without a doubt not one member of staff whether managerial or the gardeners ever passes you without saying hello. All the staff are so attentive and friendly and all seem to really love working there. It gave such a pleasant atmosphere. We are real foodies and are typically a little disappointed in the all inclusive restaurants but Sans Souci did go a notch above the typical although still more limited than a fine dining establishment. We enjoyed all our meals. The sailing was incredible. There have several hobbie cats and we took them out several times. The snorkelling and glass bottom boat leaves from the beach and is included. It was a pleasant change to have everything included. The beach is a small private idyllic beach with lovely sand bottom. There was a wonderful tropical feel to the gardens with old established trees and orchids flowering outside the lobby. This hotel gave us the feeling of being in an older established high class hotel and we will recommend it to all our friends and definitely return.

Love it every time we go there! Beautiful resort built into the cliffs overlooking the beach and sea. Private beaches, good restaurant, good food and service, option for meals in room. Nice golf course nearby - included.

We booked a 6 day/5 night stay at Couples Sans Souci for our honeymoon (January 20-25, 2014), and we loved it. The pros far outweigh the cons. I'd only give Sans Souci two major cons. The first is the fact that it's in Ocho Rios which is a solid hour and a half to two hour bus ride from the Montego Bay airport. It doesn't seem like that long on paper but when you're on the bus, it seems much longer. The only other con is that some of the stuff feels outdated, such as the decor of the rooms and some of pool mats need to be thrown out and new ones brought in. Other than that, I cannot think of any cons we experienced while on our trip, and honestly, the location of Ocho Rios is not a slight on the resort at all.

The pros, however, amount to an impressively long list. While the room decor seemed outdated, the size of the room was large. The balcony was extremely spacious and nice. The mini bar had a good selection and always full of Red Stripe for us. The bathroom was spacious and included double vanities and a very nice shower.

The grounds were beautiful, and all the plants were well maintained. The pools were clean and plentiful. There were at least 3 that we used (the mineral pool, salt water pool, and main pool with the swim up bar) and 1 near the nude beach I believe. The stretch of private beach offered many places to lay out and relax, both in the shade and the sun.

The food was fantastic. The beach party is Tuesday night, and the Gala is Friday night. Both of those events featured authentic Jamaican cuisine as well as other types of food. The ox tail is super delicious, so if you're a meat eater, I'd recommend giving it a taste (even if only to try something different or new). For the rest of your meals, you could eat at Casanova (upscale and air conditioned for dinner only), Pallazzina (nice but not super fancy, open-air, and open for all three meals), and the beach grill (lunch and dinner). All three offered different choices and all three were great. Just be aware that Casanova and Pallazzina require dinner reservations which can be made at the front desk.

The best meals we ate were at the Casanova (swordfish with couscous and lamb with mashed potatoes); however, we preferred the Pallazzina for its wide variety of delicious food, availability for all three meals, and its open-air environment. You can also do room service for any meal or just for snacks. We chose to do room service for breakfast most mornings, as we preferred to wake up with some Jamaican coffee on our balcony.

All the bars were great and with their own vibes. The swim up bar was probably our favorite, and we loved Bryan who was bartending there most days. He always had a smile, made everyone laugh, and made a delicious "Oh Jesus".

Room Tip: If you don't mind taking a ton of stairs, F or G blocks will work for you. If you want to stumb...

First of all, this was our first trip anywhere hot, and coming from Canada was a real treat.
We had an absolutely amazing time. The staff was very friendly, you could not walk past any one of them without them saying hello or asking if there was anything they could do for us. We are so honored to have been able to share the past week at this beautiful resort with the staff that goes above and beyond to make sure that this trip was everything we expected and more.
The rooms were amazing, clean, and perfect for a week away from home. Housekeeping kept the beds made and the towels fresh, every day.
They even offered turndown service at around 8pm every night.
Most of all, I cannot say enough about the staff, they are the greatest hotel/resort staff I have ever seen.
The food is excellent, you have different restaurants to choose from:
Bella Vista (the beach grill - great pub style food, best French fries I have had in a while! Also, a self service ice cream station, delicious!)
The pallazina (a more resort casual restaurant) with appetizers, soups, main course and desserts, also, a pasta bar and a salad bar! You will not go back to your room hungry!
Cassanova (the fancier restaurant, men have to wear collared shirts, slacks and close toed shoes) has very high end meals to choose from, and on Wednesdays they have lobster nights, amazinggggg!!!!
Jamaica is the most beautiful, friendly place and I will recommend Couples Sans Souci to anyone looking for a tropical couples only resort.
My husband were married last year in August and they were great for making our honeymoon memorable. They offered us a complimentary 30 minute couples massage (with proof of marriage) and brought a bottle of champagne to our room with a cheese plate and a note to say congratulations.
The drinks are bottomless and our favorite bartender Bryan made us the best drinks and gave us a show with his balancing and juggle techniques while making us his specialties.
I cannot say enough great things about Couples Sans Souci, which we learned means "without care". A very fitting name for such a beautiful place.
Thank you Couples Sans Souci for an amazing time! Til next time :)
