“Worth the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Arrived here on Sunday and from the time we arrived it was a great time. The staff was very pleasant, and were very helpful with any questions we had. Very clean property and not over crowded at all. We went on the bus to the shopping center. We found some great items at fair prices. NEGOTIATE with these people as the items are priced a bit high. We also went on the tubing adventure which was very relaxing. We did find the options for food to be limited though. There is a cafe which serves burgers and jerk chicken also there were nachos and turkey sandwiches. The buffet had ok food for breakfast and lunch. The dinner buffet was only available twice during the week that we were there. There is also the Moone stone restaurant which serves pretty good food. A Japanese restaurant is available to eat at with reservations. The pools were very clean and the rooms were quite nice. We stayed in the diamond tower. Oh and all you need to do is see "Snoop" or "Smokey" wink wink... for the "Fun" stuff. They work in the lifeguard area handing out towels etc. The beach is a bit small but always plenty of chairs available and plenty of entertainment during the day and at night. This is a great resort and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: If you select an ocean view make sure your room has a nice view. We stayed in a room that only seeme...

My family and I recently visited The Jewel Dunn's River Resort for a day as we were on a Carnival Cruise and booked the resort for the day through JamaicaForaDay.com. We didn't want to roam around Jamaica or visit Dunn's River Falls due to my Dad's recent back injury so we decided to have a relaxing day at the resort and that we did. The resort was perfect from the minute we got there as it was an adults only resort (no kids) so it was very relaxing lounging in the beach chairs while sipping drinks. The price we paid was all-inclusive so that included drinks (yes alcoholic) and food which we enjoyed jerk chicken and fries for lunch. The staff was great and checked on us throughout the time we were there offering us fresh fruit while we were on the beach and one of the staff members even encouraged us to join another group for a game of volleyball and let's just say it got VERY competitive...LOL! Most of us hadn't played volleyball in a long time (since high school) and we were short a player so the staff member joined our team and we were glad he did because he made the game fun with his witty jokes and probably was the best player on our team. Did I say the game got very competitive...oh and we won! Overall the pools looked nice but we didn't have time to enjoy them after we spent most of our time on the beach, in the hot tub, and playing volleyball. My dad noticed a pool table of which he said he wished he had more time to play a game of pool with my brother. Overall, we had a great yet short time at this resort and the one thing that all my family members said over and over even when we got back on the cruise ship was "I wish we had more time at the resort".

We stayed at the Jewel Dunn River resort in the beginning of June. Daine helped us with our reservations and the whole booking process was phenomenal. Once we got there, things only got better! Do be advised that there is an hour and a half ride to the resort, but it's free and the drivers tell you some really interesting facts along the way that I never would have known!
At the resort, The "Tree Bar" is still one of the coolest bars I have been in. The food is great, drinks are great, and the service is more than I could have asked for. Nightly entertainment is nothing short of fascinating (we saw beach performances and such by local Jamaicans).
The staff here from management to front line employees work together to make your vacation relaxing and unforgettable. I recommend it to everyone!

Room Tip: We got upgraded to a Sapphire room and our balcony overlooked the beach/water. It was breathtaking...

This was a fabulous trip. Food was amazing and service was superb. Grounds were clean and resort really had everything you could want / need. Special shout out to Garnett the bartender and his partner (forgive me I forget his name) Carlisle (?), along with Montgomery, who is one of the best waiters, they were so polite and so much fun. Glad I didn't listen to any of the negative reviews. We will definitely return.

This was our 10th anniversary trip, our first trip to an all inclusive, and first trip to Jamaica. We were not dissappointed. The grounds were just beautiful. Everyone there worked so hard to keep the grounds just sparkling. Almost all the staff smiled and spoke to us as we passed and they inquired how our trip was going. The food was delicious. I was amazed at the talent behind the meals prepared. We had the priveledge of meeting one of the chefs, Michael, who was so sweet. We also loved the snorkeling at the hotel - the hour tour was well worth the reasonable price. Our guide swam in front of us and showed us sting rays, little squid, and beautiful fish. He even found 'treasures' on the ocean floor for us to take home to our 3 year old daughter. Our favorite experience was the Blue Hole. You have to go to the special events concierge (in lobby) and ask to have 'Rusty' (driver) take you to the 'Blue Hole'. It's off the beaten path and private and not approved by the tourist board, so the excursions people can't help you get there. This place is just stunning. Pristine pools of clear blue water and a waterfall you can jump off of! The guides there were a group of young local men who were possibly the most atheletic people I've ever met. I'm a bit of a chicken, and they always made sure I felt safe and had an amazing time. Glen, one of the tour guides, was especially good. The cost was $30 per person for the trip there and back and then we tipped the guides $10 per person (eg $20 for my husband and I) and the guides split it up. It was WELL worth it. They earned a lot more than that all the work they did! It really was just something we will never forget. We also met another couple who had done Dunn's River Falls and Blue Hole and they said Blue Hole was much better. From my impression Dunn's River is extremely crowded and like the 'Disney World' attraction of Jamaica. Blue Hole is basically a well kept secret "and we want to keep it that way" (said Rusty the driver). It is completely non comercialized, just locals doing an excellent job showing us their beautiful home! It is a MUST.

Room Tip: The ocean view was great in the Saphire building.

We had initially planned to go to a larger resort but last minute changes were made and switched over to Jewels Dunns resort. We were a little hesitant at first because it was smaller but the reviews were great. It exceeded my expectations. The best and most memorable part of the trip was how pleasant and friendly the staff were. They genuinely enjoy working there and never once did I get the sense that they wanted anything in return from you or tips. The place is smaller than other resorts but the facility is clean and has all the amenities you need. Housekeeping comes twice a day. The entertainment is awesome. Great singers/bands with different events each night. Extremely organized and tries to have everyone involved. Depending on the weather, they would change the events. Also, the food was great. It's hard to mass produce quality food but they really try hard. Love the freshly made fire oven pizzas and jerk chicken. The drinks are on a sweeter side but great. They love using rum! Try the Bob Marley drink!
Lastly, variety of excursions available. The Dunns Fall is right around the corner. We went tubing in the white river valley which was awesome. Not too fast rapids but beautiful emerald waters. There is also the Blue Hole which is not officially advertised at the resort but we heard from other people there. It's run privately and driver's name is Rusty (he works at the resort too). Ask for him at the front desk or valet area. He picks up a few people each morning and takes you to the white river where there is the "Blue Hole". River water that is the same color as the ocean with awesome young tour guides who are also divers. You can do mini cliff jumping, climb up the river, crawl through caves and take awesome pictures. Our favorite part of the trip by far. These tour guides/divers live off of tips and do not get commission from the drivers who bring tourists over. If you do go, don't forget to tip them!

we found this place on groupon at a good price so we decided to check it out. arriving in montego bay, we had to take a 2 hour bus ride to jewel. jamaica is such a dump! i had no idea how awful their lifestyle is (or, i guess, can be). there were random goats everywhere, people just sitting in the woods, horses and other random things were just hanging out along the side of the road. but our driver was very friendly and told us a lot about the culture and the history of the island.
finally arriving at the jewel, we were immediately greated with a smile and some drinks ( and i literally mean immediately). they greated us, showed us to the counter where we were to check in and fill out paper work. we sat on the one couch in the lobby filling out paper work as the same guy came back with more of the "drink of the day." it was so great. we got to our room and the concierge insisted he carry our bags to the room. everyone is working for a tip. so when an opportunity presents itself where someone needs something, the workers are on it (and they're very fast). we had a sapphire mountain view room. Which was what you would expect. a decently nice room. nothing special about it. it had a king sized bed, a safe for your belongings and a fridge packed with water, juice, and pop every day. the view was kind of dumb. you could see the mountains in the distance but, you'd have to make sure you always looked up or you'd see the roof of the one building below and the parking lot. but, it wasn't that bad. we weren't in our room very much anyway because there was always something to do.
The pools were awesome! they both were a very nice size. both included a swim up bar, rafts and hot tubs near by. they always had some sort of entertainment stationed at the pool. they played music, trivia, a water workout hour, and a bunch of other things. the pool was not packed at all. there were people surrounding the pool laying out on the chairs, there were people in the pool laying on the rafts, many were sitting at the bar talking to others sitting beside them. The atmosphere was so relaxed and chill. workers were constantly wondering around trying to get you drinks. that was great. there is a small building outside of the hotel that makes really good pizza and well as some good desert pizza. the one building in the middle had hamburgers, fries, 3 types of sandwiches, and nachos. this building was attached to a bar and you could go there and get service very quickly. the food served there was average. you could get that anywhere... the drinks were allllll soooo good!! the hummingbird was THE best drink i've ever had. it was soooo tasty. they had the famous dirty banana and a whole menu of other delish drinks.
the beach was beautiful. nice blue/clear water. enough chairs for everyone and it didn't seem congested. they have a squared off piece where natives wouldn't be able to cross. there were people every where trying to sell you weed or other trinkets. but it wasn't annoying because they had guards hanging out making sure they wouldn't bother us. massage therapists would wonder around the area asking if you were interested in a free 2 min massage. they were pretty good. everyone is always trying to sell you something.
we played volleyball for a good 3 hours or so with the entertainment crew. you would see the same people all the time. a young man named "the mayor" would walk around talking to people. he knew almost everyone. it was very impressive. "happy feet" is also part of their crew. although not as outgoing as the mayor, he was still funny and friendly. I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel at all.
the buffet breakfast was pretty good. always having new items. all of the restaurants at the hotel were really pretty good. if you're trying to get really good service, ask for a waiter named kevin. he's usually there all the time. he's so funny and friendly it was great. we had goat kidney one morning for breakfast which is a must try. i know it sounds awful... but it was actually really good. it was served with dumpling things. it was very interesting.
try not to get hurt. the nurse seems almost nonexistent..
if you've never been to an all inclusive resort, you neeeed to try this. it's going to be the best decision ever. I never want to pay for drinks again! i was so sad coming home and realizing you have to make your own meals.

this was a great resort and we had so much fun! i would recommend this place to anyone. it's seriously nothing fancy. if you want fancy you go to sandals. this resort is cute, sort of small, but pretty clean everywhere. it was awesome!

Dear Nichole

Although you had a great time at our resort, and happy that you decided to spend it was, and it was our pleasure, I am still not appreacitive of the downgrading of my country with regards to your statement of us as an island being a dump. This is far from the truth and we take pride in our island and just like anywhere you travel in the world you will come across, the good, the bad and the indifferent.
